Beast Driven System

The modern age of human society had undergone an evolution that changed it forever. Mana had arrived on Earth, and with it, came a meteor shower that threatened to reduce humanity to nothing but rubble and debris. Earth's governments were thrown into chaos because of this, and many military units were deployed to protect the masses from what they could only assume to be the end of the world. Using the most advanced arsenal possessed by the various world military governments, the adverse effects of the meteor shower had been controlled to an incredible degree, protecting most of Earth's inhabitants from utter annihilation. There were countries that were destroyed, leaderships and citizens wiped from the face of the Earth. Reconstruction had to be done to bring the demolished landscapes back to their former glory. It seemed like everything had gone back to normal, however, that was far from the case. Months after the meteor shower incident, world renouned scientists dedicated their time to studying these strange crystalline meteorites. Years later, and something ground breaking had been discovered-abilities. These meteorites, they weren't actually meteorites, but crystals. Where they had come from was unknown and still being researched up till today. From the crystals came abilities that changed humanity forever. Those who could afford the crystals were fortuate enough to obtain strange powers from within. Fire, boulder, serpent, and many others. Many more years passed by, and more and more was being discovered about abilities and the crystals they came from. Everything seemed to be heading up after the phenomenon that nearly destroyed the Earth, but not everything was for the benefit of everyone. For many years, most were oblivious to the presence of abilities on Earth. It wasn't until an alien invasion occoured, that the information on abilities was made public. Strong ability users were needed to defend Earth against the Shales. The government, private and public corporations, and many others, they were all monetizing whatever crystals they could get their hands on, using it as a means of earning revenye from the populace. Those who were rich enough to purchase ability crystals could become ability users, while those who couldn't would simply remain as regular humans. Many rich families in the new world were able to obtain strong abilities for themselves and their children; the ones who would continue their lineage and glory once their parents are no more. In order to learn how to defend humanity from the invasion of the aliens, people from the ages of 16 were ordered to attend a military academy by the decree of the federal government of their respective countries. Failure to abide by this law was punishable by jail time. Kayden, a sixteen-year-old from a city known as Black Saber city. Having lost his parents at a very yoing age, he had to live with his single uncle and his cousin. Like many other teenagers his age, he desired to attend military school to learn how to fight against the Shales. However, being unable to afford an ability, his dreams of becoming powerful seemed like they would be crushed, but that all changed the day he had been given a system that allows him to unlock monsters by completing quests. On his path to evolve, he must face multiple challenges, complete quests and go on missions just to grow in strength. For in the current world, only the strong are regarded, while the weak are cast aside and forgotten. That was the general rule, the rule that governed everything that happened. From a crystal, came a power that changed his life. Now, he must do whatever it takes to save the people he loves and cares about. He must make sure that he doesn't loose the people he cares about once more.

Trials

Kayden was ready to get this quest over with. As thr next fish-human beast came towarda him, he swung out his claw, ripping through its body and killing it in a single blow. Others followed closely behind it. He swung his claws repeatedly, slashing them to death before they could even attack.

'It's all thanks to this werewolf speed. I can move faster than these beasts can even react!' he watched the number go up at a fast rate. Although intermediate grade beasts were naturally stronger than basic grade beasts, he was simply far too strong for them to be a challenge for him.

[Second Quest Complete!]

[Third Quest: Kill 100 Advanced Grade beasts!]

'What?!' Kayden yelled internally. Of course, the basic and intermediate grade beasts weren't a problem for him, but advanced grade? He wasysure if he could do much against fighting those beasts. In the first place, the higher the grade of a beast was, the harder it would be for them to be killed.

'Plus, i've never fought advanced grade beasts before, so i don't really know what to expect. Maybe it would be harder, maybe i won't even be able to complete that quest,' it was then that a thought had come to his mind.

'The extraction technique! The very one that gave me this ability in the first place! If i absorb the energy from the beasts, then i should become strong enough to fight advanced grade beasts!'

He wasn't the only one thinking this, as the other had started doing the same thing once all thebeasts had been defeated. They all picked up crystals and began absorbing thr energy trapped within, adding it to their own. This was the fastest way for them to grow stronger, so they couldn't afford to not make use of it.

Kayden had quickly done the same. He picked up thr mana cores from the beasts' corpse and began to absorb them. He was channelling the power into his own. He could feel thr energy coursing through his body, and now, he was getting stronger once again.

'However, the more energy one absorbs from a beast of a particular grade, the harder it would be for one to grow stronger since one's mana pool would grow larger, absorbing a now small amount of mana wouldn't make such a difference anymore.'

This was what Kayden had learnt in the past. He absorbed as many intermediate grade beast cores he had come across, and so did thr others. Once all thr crystals had been used, everyone was now looking at each other.

"So, what do you suggest we do now?" Kumon asked, looking at Shawn. "Should we just go straight and start hunting the advaced grades? Or do you think we should start looking for the other students?"

The reason why he was asking this question, was because, upon being transported, they noticed that there were only five of them in the area. The otger students were no where to be seen, and even after being in the place for a while, they hadn't encountered anyother students.

"Abd why should we do that? Isn't it obvious? We were all separated. That's why we were ordered to step onto the stage in groups of five. They believed it would be best for us tp go about thr course this way," Shawn replied.

"And without supervision from the higher-ups? What if something bad happens during this course?" Kumon snapped back. "What if we end up encountering a beast that's way too strong for us to deal with on our own? What then?"

Kumon didn't like the fact that they had been pretty much abandoned like this. Sure, they all knew what was happening in the world. The shales were beibg more aggressive than they had been in a while. Despite the so-called peace triety that had been signed, they were clearly going back on their word, and this wasn't the first time they were doing it.

"Let's just go ahead and start hunting some advanced grade beasts. Once we feel like we've defeated enough, then we move onto the next grade, the king grade. So, do you all agree with that?" Shawn asked, looking at the others.

Kayden and the others nodded their heads, even Kumon. Even if he was wary about this whole thing, he felt confident that he could handle whatever came his way with his ability.

And so, they set onward, ready to deal with the nect grade of beasts.

__________

On a different part of the planet, two people could be seen havibg their backs facing each other. They were currently figgting against a large group of beasts. As one of the beasts shot out its long, dangling hand, Kayla shot out her flames, burning the hand. Although the limb caught ablaze, it hadn't simply just burnt to a crisp abd fallen off.

"These things are a lot harder to deal with than the others," she said, creating a blade made of flames which she swung down, clashing with another beast that had come closer to her.

"These things aren't supposed to be easy for ypu in the furst place," Red Band said, dodging one of the attacks and burnibg away the limb with his lightning powers. "Remember what we talked about."

Kayla and Red Band were currently surrounded by a bunch of strange beasts. They had all sorts of different body parts; long, dangling limbs, deformed faces, and a slimy substance that oozed from their bodies.

She tilted her head, avoiding a fist comong in her direction abd grabbed onto the hand, applying ger flames to it. The fire moved quickly and emveloped the body of the beast, but it simpky swung its other hand, knocking her away.

Her body skidded across the ground before coming to a stop. She raised her head, only to see one of the hands rushibg towards her. Before the fist could hit her, it burst open, lightning sparks going off.

"Such a pain..." Red Band said under his breath. "Hey! If you can't handle this, then you should have just said so!"

Although he was saying this, that wasn't really the case. She hadn't eaten anything ever since she had come to this planet. She didn't even know how long ot had been since she even drank water. She had even asked the adventurer if he had any food on him, but he simply just shrugged his shoulders.

The previous time she had fainted, she was lucky that the mana in her body was somewhat sustaining her from starvation, but then, it also meant that she wasn't as poweeful as she would normally be. And also, every single one of these beasts were of the advanced grade, and they weren't even on the weaker end.

Being humanoid advanced grade beasts, they were far stronger than your average arvanced grade beasts, and on top of their, each one of them had strength that was close to beibg at thr low level of the king grade.

'Damn... I don't think i can hold out for much longer,' she thought, feeling her body staggering once more as she got back onto her feet. A fist came at her. She placed both of her arms together, using them to guard her face as the attack connected, sending her flying and crashing into one of the nearby trees.

Another fist was coming her way. She git up quickly and shot out a wave if fire that engulfed the dangling hands swubging her way. However, just like before, her attacks weren't having much of an effect on the beasts. She rolled on the ground as another habd came swinging her way, her hitting a boulder on the way.

She winced in pain. She forced her legs to move as she got up. Her wounds were healing at a much slower rate now. She had pushed herself closer and closer to her limit. Her large mana pool was now nearky empty. She didn't even havr enough mana left to completely heal her injuries, much less produce her flames the same way she had been doing before.

An attack came from behind, catchibg ger offguard as it struck her right against her back, pushibg her into the air. Another attack came from the side, knocking her back to the ground. Her head was facing the sky, and in that moment, multiple hads had risen, now rusibg towards her below.

Right as they were about to hit her, Red Band had intervened once again and launched out his lightning, shocking the hands abd causing them all to explode.

"Dig deeper if you want to have a chance to defeat these things," he said, his eyes glowing with power.
