Beast Driven System

The modern age of human society had undergone an evolution that changed it forever. Mana had arrived on Earth, and with it, came a meteor shower that threatened to reduce humanity to nothing but rubble and debris. Earth's governments were thrown into chaos because of this, and many military units were deployed to protect the masses from what they could only assume to be the end of the world. Using the most advanced arsenal possessed by the various world military governments, the adverse effects of the meteor shower had been controlled to an incredible degree, protecting most of Earth's inhabitants from utter annihilation. There were countries that were destroyed, leaderships and citizens wiped from the face of the Earth. Reconstruction had to be done to bring the demolished landscapes back to their former glory. It seemed like everything had gone back to normal, however, that was far from the case. Months after the meteor shower incident, world renouned scientists dedicated their time to studying these strange crystalline meteorites. Years later, and something ground breaking had been discovered-abilities. These meteorites, they weren't actually meteorites, but crystals. Where they had come from was unknown and still being researched up till today. From the crystals came abilities that changed humanity forever. Those who could afford the crystals were fortuate enough to obtain strange powers from within. Fire, boulder, serpent, and many others. Many more years passed by, and more and more was being discovered about abilities and the crystals they came from. Everything seemed to be heading up after the phenomenon that nearly destroyed the Earth, but not everything was for the benefit of everyone. For many years, most were oblivious to the presence of abilities on Earth. It wasn't until an alien invasion occoured, that the information on abilities was made public. Strong ability users were needed to defend Earth against the Shales. The government, private and public corporations, and many others, they were all monetizing whatever crystals they could get their hands on, using it as a means of earning revenye from the populace. Those who were rich enough to purchase ability crystals could become ability users, while those who couldn't would simply remain as regular humans. Many rich families in the new world were able to obtain strong abilities for themselves and their children; the ones who would continue their lineage and glory once their parents are no more. In order to learn how to defend humanity from the invasion of the aliens, people from the ages of 16 were ordered to attend a military academy by the decree of the federal government of their respective countries. Failure to abide by this law was punishable by jail time. Kayden, a sixteen-year-old from a city known as Black Saber city. Having lost his parents at a very yoing age, he had to live with his single uncle and his cousin. Like many other teenagers his age, he desired to attend military school to learn how to fight against the Shales. However, being unable to afford an ability, his dreams of becoming powerful seemed like they would be crushed, but that all changed the day he had been given a system that allows him to unlock monsters by completing quests. On his path to evolve, he must face multiple challenges, complete quests and go on missions just to grow in strength. For in the current world, only the strong are regarded, while the weak are cast aside and forgotten. That was the general rule, the rule that governed everything that happened. From a crystal, came a power that changed his life. Now, he must do whatever it takes to save the people he loves and cares about. He must make sure that he doesn't loose the people he cares about once more.

The Urge To Kill

Simply on her way through the strange land, searching for someone who could help her leave this strange planet, she was surprised when she stumbled across someone who went by the title of adventurer, a person who hunts down beasts for a living, using their Mana core to either earn money on the global market, or to increase one's own Mana pool by absorbing the energy contained in the Mana core.

Standing in front of him, Kayla was wondering what she would say now. She wanted to use this man to help her gain more strength on this planet, and also, she was hoping if he would be her ticket to actually leaving this planet and heading back home.

"Are you an adventurer?" The man asked, quickly scanning the attire she was wearing. He immediately noticed that her uniform was unlike anything that an adventurer would wear while put in missions. After staring at her clothing for a while, something finally clicked in his mind.

"Are you a military student?!" He suddenly screamed, his eyes wide in shock as he pointed his finger at her.

'What on Earth is a military student doing out here on her own? Is she here on an expedition course? If that's the case, then where are her classmates and the instructors? Shouldn't they be with her as well? Or are they nearby and she decided to just venture away from the group on her own?'

There were a number of thoughts racing through his mind at this moment. If one of the military academies were having their expedition course now of all times, then wouldn't the adventurers' guild he worked for let him know about this?

It was unadvisable for both adventurers and military students to be using the same area for hunting beasts.

The reason for this wasn't quite popular amongst people, since not many people would see a reason as to why adventurers and military students simply can't just mind their business and do what brought them over to this planet in the first place.

"What on Earth are you doing here? And where are the other military students and your instructions? Shouldn't they be nearby? Why are you out here on your own? Don't you know that it's dangerous?" The adventurer couldn't help but ask a bunch of questions to the student. It was uncommon for students to wander out on their own, and even when they did, it wouldn't usually end well for them as there would usually be beasts roaming around, ready to kill anything they set their sights on.

Kayla didn't reply right away, she was still thinking of a proper response to give the man. Seeing her hesitation to respond, the man began to walk towards her, when suddenly, a loud bang went off not too far away from were they stood, catching both their attention as their heads shifted towards the source of the disturbance.

There were beasts flying in the air, heading towards their location, while down below, were creatures rushing towards them, barring their sharp teeth and running at a rapid speed to meet them.

"Run and hide!" The adventurer shouted, as lightning began to form on both of his hands. Immediately, he rushed forward, and once he was close enough to the nearest beast, he swiped his hands, crashing them right against the side of the beast, the lightning burning through its flesh and bone, while the force of the strike chucked the creature off to the side.

Despite seeing one of their comrades beibg dealt with so easily, it didn't stop the other beasts from charging towards them. As soon as the other beasts got close enough, the adventurer rushed forward, swinging his hands in multiple directions, killing off multiple beasts in the process.

Meanwhile, Kayla, still shocked by what she had witnessed earlier, had to force her body to move. Although the adventurer was doing a good job killing off most of the beasts, there were bound to be those that would find a way through the barrage of attacks, and rushed towards her to attack.

'At least my Mana is back to full capacity. Even if some of those things manage to come through and try to attack me, I'll be able to defend myself,' she thought, clenching her fists as her eyes glowed bright yellow.

In the midst of her thoughts, something had managed to creep behind her. She was far too focused on what was happening in front of her to notice at first, but once the creature had gotten close enough, she turned her head, and towering above her, there was what resembled a catapilar, only that this one was completely black in color, with no eyes, and was as long as a two store building.

As she moved out of the way of its legs trying to swipe at her, she couldn't help but wonder how something so big managed to sneak so close to her without her noticing.

Letting out a loud shriek, the beast rushed in once again to attack. Despite its large size, it was able to quickly cover the distance between the both of them, catching Kayla by surprise as she just managed to swivel her way out of the beast's attacks.

Although there was a fairly large cut on her elbow, channelling her Mana, she was able to quickly heal from the injury, right before the creature swung out its long, sharply-pointed appendages once again.

The attack had just missed her by a few inches. Opening its mouth, a thick black substance was shot out. Once the strange liquid hit the floor, it quickly began to harden and form a solid substance, trapping whatever it fell upon in a thick coating.

'So that's what this thing can do?' moving further back, Kayla began to concentrate as she activated her ability.

"Time to burn this nasty pest!"

"Time to drop some bodies," Marcus said, with a large grin on his face as he stared down at the city down below. It was currently night time, though there were still multiple places that were active at this time. There were multiple cars moving on the roads below, as well as people rushing to get to their respective destinations.

There were a lot of things going on in this city.

After he had received orders from Patricia, Marcus, or at least the soul that was slowly taking over his body, had quickly spring into action. Now, towering above everyone else, he readied himself as he was about to jump down and begin his killing spree.

"This is going to be fun!" He said, pushing off against the surface as he lept off the building, heading towards the ground below at a rapid pace. Despite the wind resistance, he was still able to remain composed and conscious as his body eventually landed, feet first on the road below.

"Hey! What's that! That in the sky!" A random civilian shouted, pointing his finger upwards. The other people who were passing by had suddenly stopped, their gaze following the direction his finger was pointing at. It was then that they could see a small object heading towards them. It wasn't until he had landed, that they realized that it was a teenager that had just fallen from the building.

"Kid, don't you know it's dangerous for you to just just down from afucking building?! Just because you have an ability and can heal from such damage, doesn't mean that you should just go around doing such reckless things!" The same man who had pointed towards the sky said.

Seeing that none of his words were stirring a reaction from the boy, the anger within him began to grow, abd with that, his feet began to move forward, as his fists clenched. Of words weren't going to get to him, then perhaps physical pain would.

"You're not the only one here with an ability, kid!"

From his hand, a blue mist began to form, swirling around his right hand. As his fist was inches away from the side of the boy's head, it suddenly stopped midair, having been caught by the reckless kid.

"You… you dare lay your filthy hands on me?" He asked, looking straight into the man's eyes.

Suddenly, a chill ran down his spine. He wasn't sure whether he was imagining it or not, but right now, he could sense killing intent oozing out of this kid. Something was telling him to quickly pull away and run for his life.

However, as he tried pulling away, he could feel the strong grip the boy had on him. He tried everything he could, using all the strength he could muster, yet it was unable to grant him the freedom be so desired. Looking deep into the boy's eyes, there was a feeling which he was doing the best he could to evade, something no man wished to face in their life.

The feeling of looking death right in the eyes.

Before everyone's eyes, a hand had pierced right through the man's abdomen, poking out through his back, as his blood dripped down the hand and out through his mouth. His eyes bulged out from shock and the pain, and seconds later, his life had been taken away.

Pulling his hand out, Marcus allowed the body of the man to crashed against the floor, while screams of terror tore though the night sky, as everyone was on a mission to rush to safety, not wanting to be the next victim of this deranged individual.
