Beast Driven System

The modern age of human society had undergone an evolution that changed it forever. Mana had arrived on Earth, and with it, came a meteor shower that threatened to reduce humanity to nothing but rubble and debris. Earth's governments were thrown into chaos because of this, and many military units were deployed to protect the masses from what they could only assume to be the end of the world. Using the most advanced arsenal possessed by the various world military governments, the adverse effects of the meteor shower had been controlled to an incredible degree, protecting most of Earth's inhabitants from utter annihilation. There were countries that were destroyed, leaderships and citizens wiped from the face of the Earth. Reconstruction had to be done to bring the demolished landscapes back to their former glory. It seemed like everything had gone back to normal, however, that was far from the case. Months after the meteor shower incident, world renouned scientists dedicated their time to studying these strange crystalline meteorites. Years later, and something ground breaking had been discovered-abilities. These meteorites, they weren't actually meteorites, but crystals. Where they had come from was unknown and still being researched up till today. From the crystals came abilities that changed humanity forever. Those who could afford the crystals were fortuate enough to obtain strange powers from within. Fire, boulder, serpent, and many others. Many more years passed by, and more and more was being discovered about abilities and the crystals they came from. Everything seemed to be heading up after the phenomenon that nearly destroyed the Earth, but not everything was for the benefit of everyone. For many years, most were oblivious to the presence of abilities on Earth. It wasn't until an alien invasion occoured, that the information on abilities was made public. Strong ability users were needed to defend Earth against the Shales. The government, private and public corporations, and many others, they were all monetizing whatever crystals they could get their hands on, using it as a means of earning revenye from the populace. Those who were rich enough to purchase ability crystals could become ability users, while those who couldn't would simply remain as regular humans. Many rich families in the new world were able to obtain strong abilities for themselves and their children; the ones who would continue their lineage and glory once their parents are no more. In order to learn how to defend humanity from the invasion of the aliens, people from the ages of 16 were ordered to attend a military academy by the decree of the federal government of their respective countries. Failure to abide by this law was punishable by jail time. Kayden, a sixteen-year-old from a city known as Black Saber city. Having lost his parents at a very yoing age, he had to live with his single uncle and his cousin. Like many other teenagers his age, he desired to attend military school to learn how to fight against the Shales. However, being unable to afford an ability, his dreams of becoming powerful seemed like they would be crushed, but that all changed the day he had been given a system that allows him to unlock monsters by completing quests. On his path to evolve, he must face multiple challenges, complete quests and go on missions just to grow in strength. For in the current world, only the strong are regarded, while the weak are cast aside and forgotten. That was the general rule, the rule that governed everything that happened. From a crystal, came a power that changed his life. Now, he must do whatever it takes to save the people he loves and cares about. He must make sure that he doesn't loose the people he cares about once more.

Protector

Kevin held her arm tightly, not wanting to let go despite all her screams and protests. The other students present were waiting in patient anticipation for what he would do next, while Maya was cursing at ger current situation, wondering why she had even decided to stand up for the poor student in the first place.

'If only u had kept my mouth shut, I wouldn't be in this situation now,' she thought to herself, feeling the intense grip Kevin had against her arm. 'Bow I have to deal with his anger issues. Why the fuck do I even love a guy like him?!"

Looking at the pained look on her face, something in Kevin urged him to loosen his grip around her arm.

"The next time you go against me like that, things won't end up pretty," he warned her, legging go of her arm.

Seeing this, everyone broke out in huge groans and complaints about how he handled the situation.

"What?! He just let her off just like that!"

"Kevin, what happened to you?! What happened to that ice king that ruled this school?!"

"Yeah! Why would you let her off just like that!"

They were all upset, knowing that if it were them in her place, he wouldn't have bothered showing any form of mercy to them.

Although one situation had deescalated, another was still ongoing. After the student hurled Stacy towards her father, she proceeded to dust both of her hands, before walking off like nothing happened.

"Stacy! Are you okay?" Jake asked her, picking her off the ground in his arms. "Who's that girl? Why did she attack you?"

There were so many questions on his mind, but looking at his daughter, it was clear that she was in need if medical attention, as she had lost consiousness.

"Hey! Where do you think you're going?!" He yelled out at the girl who had attacked his daughter. "Do you think that you can just harm my daughter and get away with it?! I'll make sure you get what you deserve!"

Walking away, the girl's movements suddenly came to a stop as she looked back at the man.

"You wouldn't do anything if you love your life," she said, before turning her head.

'What?!' he screamed in his mind, his attention shifting back to his daughter in his arms.

Not wanting to spend anymore time there, Jake quickly picked her up and took her to the car before driving her to the nearest hospital. He could see a handprint around her throat, the place where the student had strangled her

The fact that she was showing no signs of waking up, was really making him worry as he was tempted to go beyond the speed limit just to get to the hospital a little bit sooner.

Fortunately, it wasn't long till he made it to the hospital, and as soon as all the formalities werre done, the doctors went to work in treating her injuries.

Meanwhile, Jake decided to head back to work since there wasn't anything else he could do at this point. However, he wasn't able to focus on his work, as his mind would constantly remember that his daughter was currently in the hospital.

Also, he was wondering why on Earth one of the students at her school would go out of her way and attack her like so.

'I need to do something about this. The fact that it was someone at her school, means that she wouldn't be safe the next time she goes there. I can't go through what happened the last time. I need to do something before this situation gets out of hand,' he thought to himself, as his eyes lingered on the telephone placed on one side of his office table.

Later that day, he headed to the hospital to check up on her condition, and to his relief, the doctors said that she was alright and thaf he could now take her back home.

During the car ride home, neither of them had said a word to the other. Jake was focused on the road, while Stacy was on her phone watching videos. This incident reminded them a lot of what happened the last time, only that Kayden wasn't with them.

It was then that Jake decided to bring something up.

"This is why he is in military academy, to train so he can protect us. The least we can do is not give him something to worry about while he's there," he said, taking a right turn. "You need to learn to stay out of trouble while you're in school.

"Or have you forgotten that nearly all of your classmates have abilities? What would happen if you one day piss someone off and they just decide to beat the hell out of you, hmm? I'm sure if I hadn't arrived at that moment then something worse might have happened to you.

"You're not like Kayden. You don't have an ability," he lectured her, hoping that his words would have an impact on her at this point in time.

Although her eyes was focused on her phone, she was listening to every word he was saying. She may not have liked to admit it, but her father was right. If she had only stayed away from the matter. If she had decided to just mind her business, then she wouldn't have gotten in trouble with one of the students.

But it was her best friend. What else was she supposed to do?

At least this was the thought that plagued her mind as the car came to a stop right outside their house.

"Get out and let me park the car," Jake ordered. While she did as told, he parked the car in the garage while she went into the house straight to her bedroom.

"Teenagers," he muttered under his breath as he drove the car into the garage.

Standing on a high-rise building a little away from their house, a single person could be seen staring in the direction of their house with a sinister look on her face. In her hands, was a device similar to a binocular goggle of the past, only that this one was far more advanced and would allow her to see the finer details of things, even if it was nighttime.

This was thanks to the fact that they had a night vision setting, as well.

"That bitch is gonna pay for embarrassing me in front of the others," she said to herself, before walking away and finding her way down the tall building.

_________

"Stacy! Dinner's ready!" Jake yelled, serving their dinner at the dining table. "Get down here before your food gets cold!"

The sound of footsteps could be heard as a girl wearing dark baggy clothing stepped out of her room, rushing downstairs as though the house were on fire.

"I'm here!" She said, before taking a seat.

"For someone who just came back from the hospital, you sure got a lotta energy," her father joked, serving himself a spoonful. "You sure that was you I saw back there? Or was it just your secret twin?"

Seeing her father joke like this, she was glad to know that he still wasn't mad at her for what happened earlier.

"So, does that mean you're no longer mad at me?" She asked, flashing him the best puppy dog look she could muster. "I was just trying to defend my friend back there. You understand, right?"

Jake couldn't help but look her up and down like she was a stray cat.

"What I understand is that you momentarily lost your value for your life. It was obvious when you decided to offend one of your crazy classmates into making them attack you," he responded. "And don't tell me that I'm lying. I've lived with you for all your life.

"I know the kind of hurricane daughter I raised. She may seem shy and innocent at first, but beyond all that innocence, is someone who is willing to take risks even though they affect her own health and well-being. I have observed you prove me right over and over again over the years.

"Remember back then when the neighbors' kids would but Kayden? You would always swoop in to rescue him. You would fight against the other kids, even though a few of them had abilities and were far stronger than you.

"Though you would sually get beat up, that never stopped you for standing up for him. And now look at how things are. He's the one getting ready to defend us one day," he mused, munching down on his food.

"So… you understand why I had to do it, right? I couldn't just stand back and watch my best friend get bullied. I had to step up and do something!" She declared, pumping her fist in the air.
