Beast Driven System

The modern age of human society had undergone an evolution that changed it forever. Mana had arrived on Earth, and with it, came a meteor shower that threatened to reduce humanity to nothing but rubble and debris. Earth's governments were thrown into chaos because of this, and many military units were deployed to protect the masses from what they could only assume to be the end of the world. Using the most advanced arsenal possessed by the various world military governments, the adverse effects of the meteor shower had been controlled to an incredible degree, protecting most of Earth's inhabitants from utter annihilation. There were countries that were destroyed, leaderships and citizens wiped from the face of the Earth. Reconstruction had to be done to bring the demolished landscapes back to their former glory. It seemed like everything had gone back to normal, however, that was far from the case. Months after the meteor shower incident, world renouned scientists dedicated their time to studying these strange crystalline meteorites. Years later, and something ground breaking had been discovered-abilities. These meteorites, they weren't actually meteorites, but crystals. Where they had come from was unknown and still being researched up till today. From the crystals came abilities that changed humanity forever. Those who could afford the crystals were fortuate enough to obtain strange powers from within. Fire, boulder, serpent, and many others. Many more years passed by, and more and more was being discovered about abilities and the crystals they came from. Everything seemed to be heading up after the phenomenon that nearly destroyed the Earth, but not everything was for the benefit of everyone. For many years, most were oblivious to the presence of abilities on Earth. It wasn't until an alien invasion occoured, that the information on abilities was made public. Strong ability users were needed to defend Earth against the Shales. The government, private and public corporations, and many others, they were all monetizing whatever crystals they could get their hands on, using it as a means of earning revenye from the populace. Those who were rich enough to purchase ability crystals could become ability users, while those who couldn't would simply remain as regular humans. Many rich families in the new world were able to obtain strong abilities for themselves and their children; the ones who would continue their lineage and glory once their parents are no more. In order to learn how to defend humanity from the invasion of the aliens, people from the ages of 16 were ordered to attend a military academy by the decree of the federal government of their respective countries. Failure to abide by this law was punishable by jail time. Kayden, a sixteen-year-old from a city known as Black Saber city. Having lost his parents at a very yoing age, he had to live with his single uncle and his cousin. Like many other teenagers his age, he desired to attend military school to learn how to fight against the Shales. However, being unable to afford an ability, his dreams of becoming powerful seemed like they would be crushed, but that all changed the day he had been given a system that allows him to unlock monsters by completing quests. On his path to evolve, he must face multiple challenges, complete quests and go on missions just to grow in strength. For in the current world, only the strong are regarded, while the weak are cast aside and forgotten. That was the general rule, the rule that governed everything that happened. From a crystal, came a power that changed his life. Now, he must do whatever it takes to save the people he loves and cares about. He must make sure that he doesn't loose the people he cares about once more.

Protector (Part 2)

"Yeah, yeah. Lady Justice, why don't you finish dinner first before heading out to save the world," Jake advised, almost finishing his own dinner. "You don't want to go out there and save the city on an empty stomach now, do ya?"

Stacy began to laugh nervously to this remark, scratching the back of her head as her gaze fell upon her dinner.

"I don't see what's wrong with standing up for people, that's all. And I'm only shy when I don't feel the need to be heroic. It's almost like I have two different personalities," she said, looking back at him.

"Maybe that'll be your superhero name, Dual Persona. What do you think?" He asked.

Stacy looked to be thinking about it before giving him a response.

"Dad, I don't plan on becoming a superhero. I'll leave that for Kayden. I only want to protect those few people that I care about," she said. "I really don't see what's the point in protecting a bunch of people I don't even know.

"I know this might make me sound kinda heartless, but that's just how I feel. You know, it's just hard to feel a connection with someone you don't even know or that you've never even met before," she explained, looking down at the table. "I just want to make sure that the people I care about are safe."

Hearing this, a smile broke out on his face.

"I'm glad that nu girl wants to stand up for what's right, but still, you need to be careful," he cautioned her.

Stacy couldn't help but nod her head in response.

"I know, dad. And I'm sorry if I made you worry. I wasn't thinking clearly back then. I promise I won't do something reckless like that ever again," she apologized, not having the will to meet his gaze. "I hope you're still not mad at me about it since you brought it back up."

After a few moments, Jake let out a sigh, his hands rubbing his face.

"I'm not, sweetie. As long as you don't get in trouble like that again, then I forgive you. Now, finish your dinner and get to bed early. You have school tomorrow," he said, standing up from his seat as he was about to take his plates over to the kitchen.

Hearing this, Stacy raised an eyebrow in response.

"Dad, there's no school tomorrow. Tomorrow's National Hero's Day," she said, struggling to keep herself from bursting out laughing.

At this point, a couple gears in his brain were starting to function.

"Huh? Tomorrow's a public holiday? But I thought today was Thursday?" He asked, cratchibg his head as a look was confusion was evident on his face. "Man, I must really be getting old if I can't even keep up with something as simple as the date," he said, heading to the kitchen with his plates in hand.

Once Stacy was done with dinner, she took her own plates over to the kitchen and washed them before heading up to her bedroom to call it a night.

Sometime during the night, she heard a loud bang coming from the side of the house, startling her awake. Panicked, she quickly rushed towards the side of her bed, where she had a bat primed and ready for whoever thought it would be a good idea to break into the house in the middle of the night.

Of course, this wasn't going to be the first time she would use this weapon.

Cautious, she opened the door to her room, and stepped out. Looking both ways, she realized that she was the only one out of their room before heading for the stairs, following the trail of the house she had heard, leading her towards the back door to their house.

As her fingers were now a few inches away from the door handle, she noticed them shake uncontrollably. In fact, her entire body trembled at the thought of having to face off against whoever it was standing in the ither end, or if there was even someone outside in the first place.

'Come on. Be brave, Stacy. You need to be to protect those you care about?' she thought to herself, struggling to steel her resolve to open the door. 'You need to be brave!' she screamed in her mind, as the sweet trickled down the sides if her face.

Then, she heard the same loud bang once again. Now that she was closer to the source of the noise, she could make out the sound of glass shattering, and now, the sound of a car alarm blowing had caught her attention as well.

'The garage!' she quickly opened the door, not caring about what she might encounter on the other end as she sprinted towards the entrance to their garage. "What the fuck happened?!" She screamed, upon getting a lot at the place.

There was a large home through the cover, and from where she stood, she could see her father's car heavily damaged, with the glass shattered and scathered all over the car. Looking at it, it was clear that someone had vandalized the vehicle, and once she stepped into the garage to take a closer look, she could see a couple words written on the front part of the car.

"I'll kill you…" she read, her heart beating loudly as she read all three words out loud. "Who… could have done this?" She wondered, as her legs suddenly felt the urge to move. She ran as fast as she could towards the back door entrance, slamming the door and locking it shut. She even checked a few times to make sure she actually locked the door.

"What's dad going to think when he sees the car? How on Earth is he gonna get to work tomorrow? Heck, we no longer have a freaking car!" She paced back and forth, thinking about everything that was going on. As much as she was worried, she didn't want to go upstairs and wake up her dad because of what was going on.

She had seen how stressed he was over the past few days, abd thought that it would be best that he gets the rest he deserves, even if it's just for one night, at least.

"He'll definitely find out tomorrow. I hope he isn't gonna be too pissed about it. Plus, he really loves that car. It's his favourite and only car he's ever had. Where's he gonna get the money to buy another one?" She asked herself, looking back at the door.

"Also, who on Earth says they want to kill me? Does someone really have the guts to break into our garage, wreck my dad's car, then go as far as to threaten to kill me? This person must be begging to death because when they get these hands…" her words trailed off at the end, realizing one fact.

"Whoever did this must have an ability. How else can I explain the whole the broke in? That hole in our garage, it's human shaped. Whoever broke in obviously just bashed through the metallic closure, then used whatever ever superhumans strength or durability they have to wreck the car.

"If that's the case, then what can I possibly do to go after the person that wrecked the car?" She wondered.

________

Somewhere in the city, a girl had just made it back to her bedroom before anyone would begin to assume that she was missing. Getting into bed, she was ready to call it a night, after accomplishing everything she wished to do for the day.

'The real payback begins next tomorrow,' she thought, before falling asleep.

__________

The next day, Stacy was glad that she wouldn't have to worry about school for the next twenty-four hours. Getting up later than usual, she proceeded to spend the next few hours watching a movie on her phone.

Once the urge to eat kicked in, she ooeed her door and headed downstairs, only to see breakfast already waiting for her.

Although she had nowhere to go today, her dad still had work to do at his job.

"This is why I love you, dad. As busy as you are, you always make time to do the things I like," she said with a smile as she sat down to enjoy her breakfast in peace.

While eating her breakfast, she was thinking of how she would spend the day before it flashes before her eyes.

"I think I'll go visit Maya today. I want to find out how she doing after what happened with Kevin. Man, why does she have to fall in love with a freaking gangster? Like what happened to all the normal boys in our class like Tim and Luke?" She said, turning on the television to catch up on one of her favorite TV shows.

It would usually be on during this time in the morning, so she was excited about that, at least.

While watching the television, she couldn't help but compare the people in the show with her best friend in real life.

"You know what? You two are hust the same, always falling for the wrong people and allowing yourselves to get hurt," she complained, before one of her favorite characters in the TV show came up, completely changing her mood.
