Beast Driven System

The modern age of human society had undergone an evolution that changed it forever. Mana had arrived on Earth, and with it, came a meteor shower that threatened to reduce humanity to nothing but rubble and debris. Earth's governments were thrown into chaos because of this, and many military units were deployed to protect the masses from what they could only assume to be the end of the world. Using the most advanced arsenal possessed by the various world military governments, the adverse effects of the meteor shower had been controlled to an incredible degree, protecting most of Earth's inhabitants from utter annihilation. There were countries that were destroyed, leaderships and citizens wiped from the face of the Earth. Reconstruction had to be done to bring the demolished landscapes back to their former glory. It seemed like everything had gone back to normal, however, that was far from the case. Months after the meteor shower incident, world renouned scientists dedicated their time to studying these strange crystalline meteorites. Years later, and something ground breaking had been discovered-abilities. These meteorites, they weren't actually meteorites, but crystals. Where they had come from was unknown and still being researched up till today. From the crystals came abilities that changed humanity forever. Those who could afford the crystals were fortuate enough to obtain strange powers from within. Fire, boulder, serpent, and many others. Many more years passed by, and more and more was being discovered about abilities and the crystals they came from. Everything seemed to be heading up after the phenomenon that nearly destroyed the Earth, but not everything was for the benefit of everyone. For many years, most were oblivious to the presence of abilities on Earth. It wasn't until an alien invasion occoured, that the information on abilities was made public. Strong ability users were needed to defend Earth against the Shales. The government, private and public corporations, and many others, they were all monetizing whatever crystals they could get their hands on, using it as a means of earning revenye from the populace. Those who were rich enough to purchase ability crystals could become ability users, while those who couldn't would simply remain as regular humans. Many rich families in the new world were able to obtain strong abilities for themselves and their children; the ones who would continue their lineage and glory once their parents are no more. In order to learn how to defend humanity from the invasion of the aliens, people from the ages of 16 were ordered to attend a military academy by the decree of the federal government of their respective countries. Failure to abide by this law was punishable by jail time. Kayden, a sixteen-year-old from a city known as Black Saber city. Having lost his parents at a very yoing age, he had to live with his single uncle and his cousin. Like many other teenagers his age, he desired to attend military school to learn how to fight against the Shales. However, being unable to afford an ability, his dreams of becoming powerful seemed like they would be crushed, but that all changed the day he had been given a system that allows him to unlock monsters by completing quests. On his path to evolve, he must face multiple challenges, complete quests and go on missions just to grow in strength. For in the current world, only the strong are regarded, while the weak are cast aside and forgotten. That was the general rule, the rule that governed everything that happened. From a crystal, came a power that changed his life. Now, he must do whatever it takes to save the people he loves and cares about. He must make sure that he doesn't loose the people he cares about once more.

Lone Wolf

Kayden and the others were at the mercy of this new beast. Gripped with fear, he couldn't even bring himself to use his Inspect skill. After falling down the tall sand dune, the three students quickly got back on their feet, staring in horror at the monstrosity before them. The beast looked like a creature from the pits of hell, it was like nothing they had ever seen before.

Dan was the first to act. Activating his ability, he used a Razor Class ability to send attack slashes at the beast. However, his attempts at harming the beast yielded no results. Doing the best he could, he could barely produce a scratch mark on the creature's hard scales. The creature growled, causing them all to fall due to the vibrations its roar produced.

Kayden couldn't even get his act together. Seeing this beast, he was too afraid to try anything against it. Marcus also knew that he stood no chance against this beast. His ability wasn't strong enough to work against such creatures, so there was nothing else he could do to help out.

"Kayden, what are we gonna do?!" Dan screamed, as the three students did the best they could to evade the beast. But, no matter how fast they ran, they could not escape the terror after them. The beast barred its fangs at them, ready to devour them the next second.

As the beast lunged its head forward, what met it was a bolt of lightning, which was quickly followed by a barrage of lightning bolts. Looking up, the students realized that the beast that was about to feast on them was being attacked. However, they had no idea who it was that was saving them in this dire situation.

The bolts of lightning continued to hit the beast, causing it to hiss in pain. Whatever this was, it looked to be effective against the creature, causing it to slither back, trying to escape its attacker. However, it seemed like this person was hellbent on dealing with the beast, as the lightning bolts seemed to follow the serpent wherever it moved to either above or underneath the sand.

Kayden and the others decided to take advantage of this opportunity to escape, however, on their way travelling across the sand, the beast had suddenly lunged out, hissing violently while kicking loads of sand and dust everywhere. The three students were caught unaware by this, causing them to get caught in the cloud of dust.

Using his enhanced senses, Kayden was quick enough to find the others before the creature had attacked any of them. Although the dust covering the area was large, Kayden managed to help them find their way out of it. From there, they picked up the pace, heading back to the Adventurers' Guild. At this point, none of them were even interested in receiving another mission.

Looking back, Kayden could still see lightning bolts coming from all sorts of directions. Although grateful that someone had come to his aid, that didn't mean that he was going to stick around to see who this person was. At the end of the day, this was all a simulation having real life properties, so whoever this was that saved them wasn't even real in the first place.

After running for what felt like an eternity, the three military school students had finally made it back to the small town to report that they had completed their second mission. Before heading out for their second quest, the trio had decided to take some traveller's bags with them to help them carry their Mana potions in case they decided against drinking them at the mountain.

On their way to the Adventurers' Guild, they decided to drink away the potions, which not only restored their Mana, but also increase their Mana holding capacity to a further extent. Kayden's capacity was now at sixteen thousand after consuming all of his own Mana potions.

Although the training at the academy was helping him grow, it wasn't really helping him as much with his Mana as this potions. He wanted to increase the amount of Mana his body could contain so that he would be able to take on more formidable opponents in the future. He didn't want to spend all his time hunting only weak Basic Grade beasts.

Kayden and the others were growing stronger, and just like the instructor had said, things were certainly getting harder for them. They were constantly having to face off against creatures far more powerful than them. Kayden was beginning to wonder just how many kinds of beasts inhabit this strange planet.

'If I take enough Mana potions, then I can quickly start hunting these stronger beasts. Then, with the potions I'll get from them, I will then be strong enough to hunt even beasts of the Intermediate Grade,' Kayden thought to himself.

Back at the Adventurers'Guild, the Guild Master had just been updated on the fact that they had completed their second mission. Although there was a way to confirm if something like this was true or not. On the digital map he had given them, if a green check mark could be seen, then it means that they had truely completed the mission.

Seeing this, the man then went on to ask if they were interested in going out on another mission, remembering how enthusiastic they were about the last one. Dan and Marcus looked shocked upon hearing this. They had just barely made it out of the last situation with their lives, why would they now want to put themselves in more danger.

They had already been in too many life and death situation to want to put themselves in another one. However, the look in Kayden's eyes made the Guild Master raise an eyebrow in curiousity. The teenager looked eager to go out there once against. He looked like he was ready for whatever danger lurked out there that he may have to face.

Kayden looked at the man in the eyes before asking for his third mission. The other two, hearing this, were quite surprised. They were shocked because Kayden didn't look as fazed as he was back then, when they were faced with the serpent beast out in the desert. Back then, he was barely able to do anything against the creature, but now, he seemed as confident as ever in his decision to head back out.

They didn't want Kayden to step out, into his death. However, the three students didn't really know each other in the first place. The only reason they had been so kind and just with each other was because of how few they were with Mystery Class abilities in the first place. They felt the need to stick together during tough times, however, that need quickly vanished the moment Kayden stepped out of the door of the building.

The Guild Master gave the both of them a glance before returning to whatever it was that he was doing. The other two didn't know what they would be doing now. They were too scared to head outside after what had happened, but they didn't want to spend much time in the building as well.

Meanwhile, Kayden was walking across the desert, wary of the possible danger that laid at every point. He looked at the map.he had been given, and could see that the beasts he would be hunting were somewhere far from the town, in an area similar to the Savannah on Earth. It would take a long time yo reach that place on foot considering the fact that what was before him was what appeared to be a never-ending trail of purple sand in this large dessert.

Not wanting to waste much time, Kayden decided to transform into his Werewolf self, before picking up the pace, running as fast as he could on all fours on the sandy terrain. For this, he was glad that he was the only one out on this mission, not having to worry about others slowing him down.

Kayden noticed that there were a few Scorpanions near his path. Fortunately, he was able to pick up on this soon enough, allowing him to alter his traveling route without alerting the beasts of his presence. On his way, he also noticed other beasts he hadn't seen before. Some resembled crocodiles. Others, lizards or even dragons.

Kayden made sure to avoid all of these beasts the best he could. Without even using his Inspect Skill, he knew that a few of these beasts he had seen were of the Intermediate Grade at least, feeling the mere pressure their bodies emitted as he sprinted by.

'Shit! I think that beast saw me!' he yelled internally, his eyes glancing to the side. What was once a Scorpanion walking its own path, minding its own business, quickly changed course, following closely behind the teenager, snapping its pincers as it pushed itself, wanting to close the distance between them as soon as possible.

The other beasts on the area managed to pick up on this as well. And not long with after, what started off as a single beast giving chase, had turned into a horde of beasts running after a single Werewolf. Kayden's heart rate began to shoot up. Although he was fast, he wasn't sure if he could outrun a whole horde of dangerous monsters all on his own.
