Beast Driven System

The modern age of human society had undergone an evolution that changed it forever. Mana had arrived on Earth, and with it, came a meteor shower that threatened to reduce humanity to nothing but rubble and debris. Earth's governments were thrown into chaos because of this, and many military units were deployed to protect the masses from what they could only assume to be the end of the world. Using the most advanced arsenal possessed by the various world military governments, the adverse effects of the meteor shower had been controlled to an incredible degree, protecting most of Earth's inhabitants from utter annihilation. There were countries that were destroyed, leaderships and citizens wiped from the face of the Earth. Reconstruction had to be done to bring the demolished landscapes back to their former glory. It seemed like everything had gone back to normal, however, that was far from the case. Months after the meteor shower incident, world renouned scientists dedicated their time to studying these strange crystalline meteorites. Years later, and something ground breaking had been discovered-abilities. These meteorites, they weren't actually meteorites, but crystals. Where they had come from was unknown and still being researched up till today. From the crystals came abilities that changed humanity forever. Those who could afford the crystals were fortuate enough to obtain strange powers from within. Fire, boulder, serpent, and many others. Many more years passed by, and more and more was being discovered about abilities and the crystals they came from. Everything seemed to be heading up after the phenomenon that nearly destroyed the Earth, but not everything was for the benefit of everyone. For many years, most were oblivious to the presence of abilities on Earth. It wasn't until an alien invasion occoured, that the information on abilities was made public. Strong ability users were needed to defend Earth against the Shales. The government, private and public corporations, and many others, they were all monetizing whatever crystals they could get their hands on, using it as a means of earning revenye from the populace. Those who were rich enough to purchase ability crystals could become ability users, while those who couldn't would simply remain as regular humans. Many rich families in the new world were able to obtain strong abilities for themselves and their children; the ones who would continue their lineage and glory once their parents are no more. In order to learn how to defend humanity from the invasion of the aliens, people from the ages of 16 were ordered to attend a military academy by the decree of the federal government of their respective countries. Failure to abide by this law was punishable by jail time. Kayden, a sixteen-year-old from a city known as Black Saber city. Having lost his parents at a very yoing age, he had to live with his single uncle and his cousin. Like many other teenagers his age, he desired to attend military school to learn how to fight against the Shales. However, being unable to afford an ability, his dreams of becoming powerful seemed like they would be crushed, but that all changed the day he had been given a system that allows him to unlock monsters by completing quests. On his path to evolve, he must face multiple challenges, complete quests and go on missions just to grow in strength. For in the current world, only the strong are regarded, while the weak are cast aside and forgotten. That was the general rule, the rule that governed everything that happened. From a crystal, came a power that changed his life. Now, he must do whatever it takes to save the people he loves and cares about. He must make sure that he doesn't loose the people he cares about once more.

Borrowed Power

One of the skills he had unlocked from completing a quest from not too long ago. It happened during the time of the inter-student competition, when a rogue Shale had crashed into the arena and started attacking everything in sight. The quest stated that he simply had to survive the encounter, and after doing just that, he had unlocked this skill.

As easy as that quest was for him to complete, he now had a skill that would allow him track down just where Marcus was.

'Still, I wonder, is all of this really his doing? Did he just decide one day that he would turn against us? But why?' his mind then drifted back to the first time he had attended the abilities class. He remembered when he first heard of Marcus's ability. At the time, he wondered why the academy would let someone with such a dangerous ability be a part of the classes.

Following the yellow scent, he ran through multiple hallways. The closer he got, the stronger the scent and the yellow mist would get. After a while of running, he had arrived in front of a large set of double doors, the very same ones that would lead into the arena.

'Why do all my troubles always lead me to this place?' Kayden asked himself, as he swung the doors open the next second.

___________

Back in the classroom, Paul was barely able to keep up with the second year student. Despite his tracker class ability, which pretty much allowed him to sense the enemies around him and predict their next moves, that wasn't enough to compete with the speed and strength of the second year.

It was barely a fight between the two, as Paul was quickly overpowered and knocked out.

Looking around, Henry's eyes ioened wide in shock as he quickly realized what had happened.

"That brat escaped!" He yelled, before racing towards the door.

____________

In a different part if the building, a group of second year students were busy doing something. Forming a straight line in front of them, were all the instructors for the first year students. Standing in front of the second years, was Patricia, and in her hands, was a strange device that the instructors would place their hands into for a few moments.

The device would glow green for as long as their hands were inside, and after a few moments, they would remove their hands, then the next person would do the same thing.

Following this pattern, it wasn't long until each and everyone of them had done the same thing.

"Finally," Patricia said, placing the strange device onto a table and turning to face the others. "Now, all that left is for Henry to finish his part."

___________

Entering the arena, from what Kayden could see, the large space was completely empty. But still, the yellow scent was strong, and following the trail, it led towards the door to the room where the military man would be seen punishing students.

'He must be there,' Kayden thought, rushing towards the door before pushing it open.

Looking inside, to his surprise, there was no one inside, and before he could do anything else, w hand had grabbed his neck from behind, before pushing him against theneqrest wall. The force of the push caused him to yell out in pain. With his face being pressed firmly against the wall, he was unable to get a good look at who it was that had attacked him from behind.

But then, he could feel an intense heat coming from this person, allowing for him to recognize the person almost instantly.

'Henry.'

He saw no way out of the current situation. Seeing as Henry had caught up to him, he could only assume that Paul had already been dealt with. Still, there was certain things that weren't adding up, even at this point in time.

If everyone's memories had been affected, then how come Paul still took his side and fought to protect him?

'I… need to find out what's going on here!' he yelled to himself, but that didn't do much to help him break free.

"It's time I finally ki-" just as Henry was about to finish his sentence, his eyes opened wide in shock, before the grip around Kayden's neck began to loosen. Noticing this, he then pushed his feet against the wall, pushing Henry back abd crashing towards the floor.

"It's done, huh?" Henry said, his eyes falling on Kayden for a moment before he began to walk towards the door, leaving Kayden at a loss of what was going on.

"You get to live on, pipsqueak," Henry stopped for a moment, turning his head to say those final words before leaving the arena, slamming the two large door behind him.

"Che… that bastard! What the hell did he do?!" Kayden wanted to chase after him, hoping that he would get some answers, but knew that he wouldn't be able to do much if he would have to fight against the second year.

He decided to head back to the classroom to see if Paul was okay.

Fortunately, Henry wasn't heading in the same direction as him, so the two didn't cross paths after their last encounter. Entering the classroom, Kayden could see Paul lying unconscious on the floor.

Quickly, he rushed to pick him off the ground. He then noticed that there were small movements of his hands and eyes, indicating that he was slowly regaining consciousness, a relief to Kayden, since he didn't want his roommate to enter another coma anytime soon.

Host eyes then shifted towards the students, they were all staring at him with weird expressions on their faces. Not caring about that, he walked up before he now stood before the student he was looking for.

"Dan," Kayden said, picking him up by the scruff of his shirt, lifting him off his seat. "What the hell is going on here?"

Back when Kayden was in the arena, before Henry had attacked him, he realized that the scent had stopped right in the centre of the empty room, and even after feeling the area around there, he realized that the room was truly empty.

And even after sniffing the air leading to the prison room, he realized that the scent didn't lead into that part of the room.

Now, with no other choice, he was at a loss of what to do at this point in time. Remembering that Dan and Marcus we're kind of close, especially during the abilities class, Kayden was wondering whether he could get any valuable information about what was going on out of him

But then, if all of their memories had been affected, then wouldn't that just mean that his own memories had been affected as well?

"Kayden! What the hell is wrong with you?! First, you attack the teacher, and now, me? Why? What did I ever do to you to deserve this? Oh, is it because I didn't save you back then in the simulation when that adventurer was beating the crap out of you? In that case, I'm sorry. But please, just let me go!" Dan pleaded.

'His memories were altered to,' Kayden thought. Honestly, he wasn't sure what to think, most especially after seeing how all of them were acting differently. They all honestly believed that Henry Ven was one of their instructors, and not that he was just one of the second year students.

However they were able to do this, Kayden could only think that it would require a large Mana poolfor someone to pull this off. But, even after going out of their way to change everyone's memories, just what did this person plan to achieve by doing all that.

___________

"Hey, I just heard that Henry has completed his part. Let's get outta here," Patricia said.

The others nooded in response. And while the instructors were leaving the room one by one, one of the second years had created a portal using his ability for them to use and leave the first year building.

"Patricia, wait. What did you do about that clone?" One of the second years asked.

"Oh, him? I destroyed him," Patricia responded, before stepping into the portal.

"Marcus, change everyone's memories back after this portal closes," another second year ordered, before walking into the portal.

Standing in one corner of the room, was the first year student known as Marcus Vonx, the student with the mystery class ability that allows him to alter people's memories. Gritting his teeth, he had to fight the urge to pounce on these people, knowing full well that they could easily kill him if they wanted to.

Not long after, and the last person had walked through the portal. Now, all he had to do was put everything back to normal, just as he was told to do.

"I never knew that the day would come when I would be strong enough to do something like this," he said, looking at the red marking on his right arm. "But, at the end of the day, this is all just temporary. I would let still have to grow my Mana pool until I'm string enough to at least do something like this on my own in the future."

Closing his eyes, he began to concentrate, as he activated his ability and altered everyone's memories once again.
