Chapter 28: Divinity II

...........

At least, that's Silver's conclusion as he clearly felt the Divinity surrounding Carvel, Fear perhaps?

The World was changing and Lords realized it sooner than others for with the passing of the second Fog, another change took place, some kind of energy emerged, so foreign to Silver or anyone on Earth's understanding.

That strange energy was slowly spreading, enveloping the entirety of Earth, or as Silver believes, the entirety of the solar system.

Silver had realized before anyone else that their solar system doesn't really belong in this new universe, thus whoever designed the Game Of Awakening took that into consideration.

The game was slowly but surely rehabilitating the entire solar system, allowing it to adapt to the New Universe. It must be a mythical universe where all the rules previously known to Silver are changed.

That includes the influence of divinity or faith as Silver was pretty sure it came from the universe's influence over this tiny solar system, not the Game, although the latter might've predicted it.

Either way, Divinities describe perfectly how other people see you, just like Carvel's divinity of fear.

If there was any use for divinities, it's certainly not apparent right now as they seem to be useless, but every Lord realized that it might just be their path to godhood.

Silver needed an experimentation subject that isn't himself, one that has divinity. Unfortunately, he might've underestimated how scary he could be without doing much.

The unknown, everyone single mature soul, one way or another feared it at least once in their life, and Silver was that unknown variable in Carvel's eyes.

'I feel it,' Silver blinked in wonder, 'I feel his fear of the Unknown.' Scratch that, Silver didn't underestimate himself at all, or rather, his goal was to influence someone with divinity to fear the unknown that's him.

[Divinity: Unformed (Aspects of Silver, Light, Savior, Darkness... The Unknown)]

One of his divinities is after all the Unknown, the divinity he feels and understands the least which has naturally drawn his curiosity... It's his goal.

Silver took a step back, blending with the shadows of the dark building, hiding among the many zombies about.

And so did Carvel, falling back quickly to his settlement, feeling an unbelievable amount of pressure as he wondered, was the person he just saw some kind of evolved zombie or a human?

If it's the latter, then how can he comfortably walk among zombies? Carvel was anxious, having a headache just because of how many doubts were plaguing his mind.

Right away, he ordered the complete lockdown of the settlement while preparing for war, hoping that the other Lords would see the danger of the intel he sent them, thus sending someone to help.

However, the possibility that they would stay away is also high, so Carvel was really considering just fleeing, although the dragon in his veins was venomously against that.

It was soon dark, and fear prevailed. The countless dead eyes eyeing the settlements from all sides were too unsettling for Carvel to handle. He is normally the one that brings fear to people... Not today.

So using his dragonic physique, and in the shadow of the night, Carvel leaped away from building to building, his destination being the settelent of the Lord he trusts the most.

The silence of the night remained, but Carvel felt something off. He couldn't quite put his fingers on it, but it caused him to stop. trusting his instinct was his nature by now.

That was the right move as someone walked from the shadows, wearing a hazmat suit, a black hazmat suit, so certainly not Silver but Sam, Umbrella's head guard.

Silver was also there though, seemingly waiting for him, predicting his escape route?

"It's you!" Carvel narrowed his eyes, every single muscle of his tensed up, ready to flee at a moment's notice, "Who are you?? What do you want??"

"Answers," Silver stated as he took a step forward, "News or anything regarding the tombs of gods."

Carvel narrowed his eyes, remaining silent for a while before saying, "I've only heard about them and seen their rubbles once... After..."

"I know," Silver stopped him, knowing exactly what he was gonna say. After Crystal found it as her mutation was the result of the thing called Tombs of Gods, "Tell me something I don't know?"

The Tombs Of Gods, a surprise to even Silver, apparently inheritances of the Gods that started appearing with the appearance of the Game Of Awakening, and it's said to be what allows one to form Divinity.

Or rather, it's what allows one to form or gain Divinity, according to Crystal's words.

"She told you?!" Carvel was perplexed. After he caught her, he had his psychics mess her brain, basically brainwashing her into a state where she only listens to his orders. Otherwise, she would stay in a death-like state.

That Silver not only managed to awaken her but also get information from her was bewildering to Carvel.

"If the other Lords know anything about them or stumbled upon them, they would certainly keep it a secret... Except for Lord Anna," Carvel said, being surprisingly honest, "She can't hide her mutation."

"And who might this Lord Anna be? And where can I find her?" Silver asked with curiosity.

"Northeast of New York... She rules that territory," Carvel responded before sharing a question of his own, "C-Can you control zombies? Do you really only want answers out of me?"

"Fear, huh?" Silver strangely murmured as he eyed him, "You know, I've done an experiment a while ago, proving that one's abilities have a very deep emotional effect on the holder... I don't take dragons to be a fearful race unless my fictional view of them is wrong, so I have to ask, are you sure you aren't, like, a lizard?"

"Huh? What?" Carvel was baffled, unsure if he heard him correctly as his eyes shone with a dangerous light, an instinct he wasn't even aware of, rising in his soul.

"Hm? You didn't hear me?" Silver raised a brow before asking again, "Are you sure you aren't a lizard?"

"Hah," Carvel's eyes suddenly turned red, a ferocious expression overwhelming his face as he eyed Silver, all of his muscles bulging up, his green scales gaining an even darker luster, "I will kill you!!!!"

"Oh?" Silver raised a brow in wonder, "So some abilities really have an effect on the minds of their holders. Yours seem serious."

Carvel's eyes, if he even had a sliver of reason left grew wider, seemingly realizing that he had just been tricked, awakening even more anger within him.

Indeed, he has been tricked as while Silver certainly experimented on the effects of abilities on their holders' minds, he didn't have much success as Carvel is the first shapeshifter he encountered, and shapeshifters who can turn into animals seem to be easy to influence.

Carvel's leg muscles tensed up to a ridiculous degree as he leaped towards Silver with a ferocious roar, but who is the master of leaping if not Sam whose ability is called Supernatural Leap?

Carvel only felt something planting itself on his face, two big shoes that vibrated for a split second before acting like a compression spring.

Carvel couldn't even react to Sam's speed as the latter's leap speed was out of his expectation, and so was its force as he was sent flying towards a neighboring building, the collision of which was akin to a bomb.

Lord Carvel didn't seem to be in the right mind state to differentiate between what he could and could not handle as he leaped right back, this time toward Sam.

"Keep him company for a bit," Silver instructed Sam as he himself brought out some kind of strange metallic object which he attached to his right hand through a bracelet-like mechanism.

All he needed to do then was touch the object before it spread out, forming what appeared to be a round silver shield that shone with a silver luster.
