Chapter 8: Daily Routine

Ash, not knowing what a good or bad cut of meat is, chose the largest one. Seeing that, Gordon gave a rye smile and bagged up a different decent cut of meat that was actually much better. What Ash had actually been pointing toward a packed down chunk of fat trimmings. Not edible in the least for humans but decent to use when oiling a skillet.

After leaving the butchers shop Ash and I went home. I had alot of questions and I wasn't going to stop pestering Jarvis until he turned his attention back at me. Ash on the other hand had chores to complete and I wasn't about to walk around doing nothing all day with my weak little puppy legs..

I direct my mind inwardly and start making a ruckus, "JARVIS! Jarvis, hey buddy I got alot of questions again about this weird ass fantasy world you plopped me in." I wait a few seconds before continuing my barrage. "Jarvis, Jarvis, I'll start referring to you as 'C-4PO' if you don't reply. I know you can hear me and I know you know that reference now."

"Alright, alright. Shut up dammit. I was busy reinforcing your soul so we don't have issues. Luckily I was done with the big portion I was working on already." Jarvis's voice echos back in my mind, with a tinge of irritation. "Now hurry up, what's your issues and questions? Don't tell me you got into trouble in your first week and need me to bail you out."

"No, no. but I did meet an interesting man" I say as I proceed to tell him the events of today since I know he has had 100% of his focus on the soul forging he's been doing so he doesn't fade out of existence or shatter my soul with his existence.

"Hmmmm. Interestingly, that man probably came from a well developed city to have that kind of knowledge. And to not fear your intelligence he might have had a similar experience before. Alright what are your questions now, I can only spare 15minutes before my work starts to unravel."

"Alright, what's evolution? What evolutions do I have to look forward to? How do I evolve? Can I use magic?"

"Well… the answer is Complicated. A wide variety. Core reinforcement and consumption. And yes but not now. And before you ask for more details give me a second."

"..."

"Alright, evolution is something that beasts and monsters can do, humanoid races don't have evolutions but as they go up the tiers their body gets reinforced and their appearance changes to be more perfect. Beasts like you and monsters evolve into different species after their core reaches a certain threshold. The first few evolutions are always the same. Infant > Juvenile > Adult, in that order. Once they hit the standard growth threshold they need to condense the core that resides in their chest, this is also known as the 'beast/monster core' or 'diatan' for humanoids"

Continuing after taking a few breaths, which is a bit odd for a soul body might I add, "To answer your question about magic, yes you can use it but unfortunately since you are a beast you will only be attuned to a few elements at most and usually just 1 main one when your first able to use it. Humanoids can use any and all elements thanks to their slightly different core but even so they are not able to use it as well as beasts or monsters who rely on one or two elements as their instincts assist in the manipulation of mana. That being said, your core is still in a growth state and has yet to solidify. Meaning you are unable to utilize any mana whatsoever to cast magic. Once you evolve past an adult you can use some element, though I am not sure what that will be as some treasures or other factors can change things for you."

"Alright, this has been extremely helpful, thank you very much Jarvis" I make sure to thank him as he deserves this much and to make sure I stay on his good side so I can keep asking these kind of questions. Speaking of which, "Last couple questions, how do I quicken my evolution? I don't want to wait a couple years to grow into an adult form and would really like to start utilizing magic." I ask with sparkling eyes, imagining flying through the sky and blowing up mountains like I used to see in anime and manga back in my previous life.

"Thats easy, consume mana rich meat or herbs, that will force your body to more quickly assimilate mana to form your core. Once you get a bit bigger Id suggest hunting around the forest, it shouldn't be too dangerous with this low security village still standing. You might get lucky with a few spiritual herbs." Jarvis replied. "Now let me get back to my project so we don't both die" And with that I felt his consciousness move away.

Days pass in relative peace, I've truly come to enjoy this little cottage and Ash's family. Each day I will follow Ash around before disappearing to the butchers shop for a hearty meal. I felt a little bad about it for the first couple days as Ash got really worked up about my disappearance but after I kept returning a couple hours later she's gotten used to it.

10 days… 30 days…. 50 days…

I am now the size of a full grown husky, probably a bit larger and easily just as awesome might I add. My fur is now black with streaks of silver permeating through it. I am approximately 90lbs now, lost all my stupid baby teeth and have full control over my body. I have to add that I'm really fast, no more of that wobbly leg bs I had before. I'm not sure how much but I raced a horse from one of the adjacent farms a few days ago and easily beat it.

I had Jarvis pull up my stats so I could see everything a bit better.
