Chapter 6

It's frustrating when you try your best to do something right, only for it to turn out to be futile and sadly that's what Maria was going through.

Currently she was with Anna in a building whereby a killing had taken place along with the forensics team.

The case was o n of a kidnapped girl, in which the kidnappers called a very ridiculous amount of money for the ransom. But sadly before they got here the girl was lifeless body was laying on he floor with the perpetrator fleeing from scene.

Maria looked at the lifeless body, trying to figure out what exactly could have happened to the young lady. She was in her final year in college, she probably had a boyfriend and plenty friends as well. Sometimes there are some cases that she would see that would sometimes make give up on humanity.

She just couldn't seem to get the whole thing right now cause her mind was a jumbled up mess.

Anna came to her side and asked her if she was ok.

"No, I think I need to rest my head a little."

"Ok no problem, come. You don't have to worry yourself the forensics team would do their job properly."

Anna took her to the corner of the room, a small stool was suited there, she took her sit and place he hands on her face.

Ever since that whole incident happened some few days ago, her mind has been jumbled up. It didn't even occur to her that she has stumbled on something that if it gets out to the public, everywhere would be in panic mode.

However she wasn't planning on telling anybody, not even a single soul would believe her. They would probably dub her as crazy.

"Maria, is there something bothering you? For the past few days it seems like you are being lost in thought majority of the time," Anna asked with concern laced in her voice.

"I'm fine Anna, it's just that you know with the whole Jeffery thing I just can't seem to move on yet."

Anna eyes instinctively looked at her fingers, the engagement ring was still in her ring finger. Jeffery death took a major toll on her.

"You know what, how about I take you out for lunch tomorrow? That is if another case doesn't pop up."

"Ok, you would pay for our bills right?"

Anna nodded her head enthusiastically, she just wants Maria to get her head out the gutter for a while. She needs to be able to focus very well on this whole case properly.

Eating burger from a burger restaurant that has been shut down countless of times, due to high report of cholesterol being used in their food hits different.

Well according to Anna, Maria was not enjoying herself being here. She watched in disgust as Anna stuffed her face with the burger, Maria never picked up the burger that was given to her. Instead she was just nursing on the fries.

"Why aren't you eating." Anna asked with her mouth full, which made Maria stomach to churn at the sight.

"In case you don't know, this restaurant has been closed a large number of time due to the unhealthy amount of cholesterol being put into its burgers."

"So?" Anna asked taking another bite out of the burger in her hands.

"Anna you are a policewoman, you shouldn't be doing such things." Maria couldn't believe that she was being the voice of reasoning here, that's Anna's job not hers.

Anna shrugged. "Well they do say that you have one life anyways."

"And you want to shorten the one life that you have."

Anna rolled her eyes, dropping the burger back on the plate, she picked up the napkin on top of the table and used it to clean her hands.

"I brought you here cause I want to talk to you." Maria's attention was already bought.

Anna sat up straight, cleared her throat a little bit and started. "Maria, when I first lost my grandma when I was just about 12 years old, I felt devasted. I watched her slowly slip through my fingers all because there wasn't enough money to cover her hospital bill. I prayed to whatever being that was out there to let my grandma live, that she couldn't just die and leave me like that. She died some few weeks later, I cried each night, asking myself the question: why? Yet getting no answer from anybody."

There was a silence between them, however there was background noise come from the people patronizing the restaurant.

Maria knew exactly what was coming next. Anna would probably tell her to move on, start a new life, find somebody new. Why? Cause there are plenty of fishes in the sea.

However the next words that came from her mouth really shocked her.

"Maria it's ok to grief, just don't let it consume you to the point it feels like you are drowning. I am genuinely worried for you, but at the same time I can only try to advice you the best way that I can." Anna reached out for her hand across the table, holding it gently against hers.

"Maria, i think the best way for you to let go of Jeffery's death is to loose something of importance to him." She tapped on Maria's engagement ring.

This made Maria to retract her hands back from hers, she can take her advice on plenty things, but this advice she wouldn't take.

"Anna I know that you are trying to be a good friend to me, but I just can't let go of something as precious as this ring cause I am trying to move on from him."

"I didn't say that you should loose the ring instantly, I mean loose at the time that you have move on from him. That's what I meant."

Maria apologize for her misunderstanding what she meant, Anna waved her hand that it was no problem. Then she went back to eating her burger.

Anna was right, she actually did have to move on in her life. Or she would end up falling into a downward spiral of depression if she doesn't.

"Hey Maria, are you gonna eat your burger?" Anna asked realizing that she hadn't touch the burger since she ordered it.

"Yes you can eat," she pushed the plate over to Anna's side, which she happily accepted with open arms.
