(I'm sorry the last chapter was very rushed but I just couldn't bring myself to describe Diagon alley for like the 30th time, it'll make me lose interest and stop writing if I force myself to do that, hope you understand and if you don't I'm sorry you feel that way.)
Draco and Mael were the only ones to enter the Magical Menagerie, Lucius and Narcissa could not stand horrid stench that covered the magical pet shop.
Draco and Mael didn't really mind it, so Lucius sent them in with enough money enough to pay for both Draco and Mael's pets.
Draco quickly found himself a ugly looking brown owl, that he decided to name Owly. Mael sometimes finds himself seriously contemplating whether Draco is actually an idiot or not. Mael cannot understand how he came up with such a terrible name but whatever it's not his pet.
Mael looked around eagerly, there were all sorts of animals like; fire crabs, rats, owls, toads, rabits and much more. Mael looked around for a few minutes but none of the animals caught his attention, while there were some interesting animals they didn't appeal to Mael, that was until he looked at the ravens and one of the smaller ravens caught his eye. Unlike the others who were littering the store with noise, this raven was deadly quiet and still, its beady black eyes shone with an intelligence that an animal shouldn't have. Mael intrigued by the animal decides that's the one he wants. Mael walks up to the counter where a women with heavy black glasses is sitting behind it reading some sort of book about magical creatures if the Phoenix on the cover is any indication.
"Hello." Mael greets trying to get her attention.
The woman puts her book down immeadiately placing her attention on me. "Hello young man, what can I do for you? She asks politely.
Mael points at the tiny raven. "Uhmmm, I'd like to buy that raven over there."
The woman looks at where is pointing and surprise overtakes her face when she notices what he's pointing at. "My dear that's a crow not a raven." She corrects Mael.
"Okay, then I'd like to purchase that crow please." Mael corrects himself.
A smile creeps onto the woman's face. "Alright, let me get him for you." She walks out from behind the counter and walks over to the crows cage. She pulls the cage off of its shelf and walks back over to Mael.
She places the crow on the counter and Mael finds himself observing the creature. The crow seems to be assessing Mael, as if trying to determine if he's worthy of possessing it. After a few minutes the crow caws in what seems like a cry of approval.
Huh what a strange bird. Mael thought to himself intrigued.
The sales lady starts explaining to Mael how to take care of the crow, she basically told Mael what to feed it, she said that this crow loved cashew nuts, earthworms and frogs, she also told Mael that it will hunt for itself if Mael let it out of its cage but if Mael wanted to form a special bond with the crow, handfeeding it would be best way to do so because crows often formed a special bond with a human that fed them.
"So wouldn't it have a special bond with you?" Mael asks a little worried that the little guy might just fly back to the shop because it had formed a bond with the people in the shop.
The saleswoman chuckles a little. "You won't have to worry about that, as we don't hand feed them, instead we have a special place where we allow them to hunt for their own food." The saleswoman explains.
"Oh okay, how much will that be?" Mael asks.
"With the cage that'll be 10 galleons please." The saleswoman stretches out her hand waiting for payment.
Mael reaches into his pocket and hands over 10 galleons.
"Thank you very much and enjoy the rest of your day sir." The saleswoman greets politely as Mael walks away Cage in hand.
Lucius and Narcissa were surprised by Mael's choice of pet as it was a rather unusual choice but they decided not to question him and took the boys out for ice-cream as they told Severus they would.
After they finished their ice-cream Mael was escorted back to the dreary streets of Spinners end back to his grumpy 'fathers' home.
After thanking the Malfoys for their generosity Mael dragged himself back into his bleak home to find it devoid of the bat like man who inhabited it with him. Mael didn't really pay any attention to it and quickly went into his room eager to practice magic with his new wand and spend time with his pet. Mael didn't have to worry about the trace because the ministry will only be able to tell if and where magic was performed, not who performed it, so if a known wizard lives in the area that the magic was cast, such as one Severus Snape they'll just assume it was his doing.
Anyway, it was time for Mael to begin practicing, he wanted to familiarize himself with some of the easier spells he memorized and also get used to the feeling of using his wand and casting magic.
Mael takes out his book and flips through two pages before he stops on a spell called 'Pulvereum somnum'. It was a spell that produced a powder from the tip of your wand that would put the target/targets into a deep sleep for a certain period of time depending on the amount of magical power you use, it can however be resisted by occlumency. The target can be woken up early using the counter spell 'Expergiscimini'. Mael thought that this spell would be a valuable one given that it was quite powerful and easy enough to learn as the wand movement was a simple flick of the wrist and the words were easy enough to say. "Alright let's begin." Mael says with fiery determination in his eyes.
Dumbledore's office.
Dumbledore sat behind his enormous claw-footed desk with a contemplative expression upon his face.
Dumbledore had heard some startling news from his loyal servant Severus Snape. Mael had received a wand with a very dangerous magical core. The core was made of a manticore stinger, this wand with that type of core hasn't been seen in hundreds of years, yet the grandson of one of the greatest dark wizards to ever live owns such a wand.
Dumbledore's thoughts were conflicted. On one hand he knows that unlike his grandfather, Mael doesn't hate humans in fact the boy seemed to love everyone at the orphanage where Dumbledore first found him. On the other hand the boy had an intelligence way beyond his years, he's also able to see glimpses of the future and he can see the past, a truly terrifying ability. Having him on the light side was essential, Dumbledore could see the potential in Mael, he believes that Mael has the potential to become even more powerful then himself, it was gut feeling Dumbledore had. If such a talent were to succumb to the dark side, it would be disastrous for the Wizarding world, maybe even more so then Voldemort and Gellert were.
Dumbledore quickly reached a conclusion, he would get close to the boy in order to make sure he doesn't stray down the wrong path. Dumbledore was determined not to make the same mistake he had made with Gellert or Tom. In the past Dumbledore had a chance to stop them from straying down the wrong path, but he chose not to do anything, he knows now that was the wrong decision but he won't be making that mistake again with Mael.
With a new found determination Dumbledore climbs out of his chair deciding to visit Spinners web to start enacting his plans.
