Chapter 2: Lessons from the Past

Several days had passed since Draco received his acceptance letter to Hogwarts. The initial excitement had settled, and now, with each dawn, she came closer to the day when his life would change forever. He was ready to face the challenges that awaited him, or at least, he thought so.

One morning, Lucius called Draco into his office. The room was decorated with old portraits of the heads of the Malfoy family, hanging on the walls with a solemn air. Draco walked in, watching his father's serious face as he stood behind his desk. Lucius invited him to sit down, his gaze cold and calculating.

"Draco," Lucius began, "it's not long before you go to Hogwarts." There are certain things you should keep in mind now that you will be mixing with other students. The friends you choose will be important, and I hope that you surround yourself only with those who are worthy of the nobility of our family. Only those of pure blood should be in your close circle.

Draco, who until then had maintained his usual composure, couldn't help but let out a small laugh. Lucius raised an eyebrow, visibly annoyed.

—What's funny to you, son? Lucius asked, his tone cold and inquisitive.

Draco pointed to a portrait hanging on the wall, one that stood out among the rest. It was that of the first Lucius Malfoy, the ancestor after whom the family was named.

"It's ironic, Father," Draco said in an almost carefree tone. You talk about purity of blood, but the first Lucius Malfoy, the one who bears your name, wanted to marry Queen Elizabeth I of England. There are rumors that she was a squib... and also, some books mention how our family expanded their wealth by making deals and friendships with Muggles at a certain point in history. Isn't that somewhat contradictory to what you're telling me now?

Lucius's expression changed drastically. His eyes narrowed and his jaw tensed.

"Get out of here!" Lucius ordered in a firm voice, containing his anger. Go get ready, your mother will take you to Diagon Alley to buy your things.

Draco stood up without saying another word, but deep inside him he couldn't help but feel a small satisfaction. He knew that he had struck a chord with his father, and he found that intriguing. However, he remained silent and prepared for his departure

A few hours later, Narcissa and Draco were heading to Diagon Alley. During the ride, Draco's mother looked at him out of the corner of her eye, aware of the tension she had left in the house

—Draco, what did you do to make your father so angry? —Narcisa asked in her usual soft tone.

Draco smiled slightly before answering

—Nothing, mother. I only mentioned a few historical points that seem to have been conveniently forgotten. I don't think she took it well.

Narcissa didn't respond, but the look on her face indicated that she wasn't entirely surprised by the situation

Upon arriving at Gringotts, mother and son were escorted to the vault. relative of her. Draco had been there before, but every time he saw the vast mountains of gold, jewels and magical artifacts, he couldn't help but feel fascinated. There was immense wealth, but something inside him whispered that it was not enough. This is just the beginning, Draco thought, I'll make this whole thing even bigger. It was a childish promise, but sincere.

After withdrawing the necessary money, they left Gringotts and headed to Madam Malkin's shop to make the Hogwarts uniforms. Draco walked in with confidence, knowing what he needed. While Madame Malkin was taking her measurements, another boy stood next to her, nervous and wearing clearly Muggle clothing: a plaid shirt, jeans and glasses. Draco glanced at him out of the corner of his eye.

"I take it you come from a Muggle family," Draco said calmly.

The boy jumped a little, clearly not expecting someone to talk to him.

—No ...—he answered timidly—. My parents were wizards, but I grew up in the muggle world, so I didn't know anything about magic until recently.

Draco nodded, observing the boy for a moment before speaking again.

-I see. Don't worry. It can be overwhelming at first, but with time you get used to it

The boy seemed to relax a little, although he was still a little nervous. When they finished taking both of their measurements, the young man turned to Draco and asked him his name

"What's your name?"

"Draco Malfoy," he responded with a slight gesture of pride. . Have a good day.

The boy just nodded before Draco left. Leaving the store, Narcissa decided to go buy the rest of the supplies while Draco headed to Ollivander's store to pick up his wand

The inside of the store was as dusty as she had always heard. Elder Ollivander appeared from the shadows, greeting Draco with a smile that had something eerie about it.

"Good afternoon," Draco said politely. I come to buy my wand. I'm Draco Malfoy.

—Ah, the son of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy—Ollivander responded, with a thoughtful look.

Draco blinked, somewhat surprised.

—Do you know my parents?

"Of course," Ollivander responded, with a twinkle in his eye. Your mother, 10 ¾ inch wand, hawthorn wood and unicorn hair core. An elegant and very precise wand. And your father, 18 inch wand, elm wood, with dragon heartstring core. Powerful and...suitable for the Dark Arts.

Draco nodded, impressed by the old man's knowledge, even if he didn't show it openly

After his measurements were taken, the wand tests began. Draco tried several, but none seemed to be right. Finally, Ollivander handed him a 12-inch wand, made of yew wood with a dragon heart core. As soon as he held her, he felt an immediate connection. The magic flowed through him naturally.

"Interesting…" Ollivander murmured. A powerful wand for a young man with great potential. It will be especially good at charms and potions, but don't be surprised if it excels in other areas as well...even the darker ones.

Draco looked at the wand, feeling like he finally had the tool that would accompany him for years to come. With wand in hand and the weight of his name on his shoulders, he was ready for whatever Hogwarts had in store for him.
