POV

X

I'm on my tenth set of pull-ups, sweat glistening my entire body. My hair is drenched and pissing me off as it falls to my eyebrows, constantly needing to be pushed back.

I'm trying to channel my rage without alcohol and working out is the only way I know how.

I've been in my gym for two hours now, Julian joined for forty five minutes and then dipped like a weakling. I'm on my sixth rep when my phone vibrates and lights up with a notification. I finish my pull-ups, wipe myself off with a towel, gulp down some water and check my phone.

Millie.

I can't do this right now.

I do fifty push ups before I decide to text Millie back so I don't lose my shit on her.

She wants to talk tomorrow, I just don't think I have it in me to face her yet. I don't respond to her requests because it's something I need to sleep on. We'll see how I feel about it later.

I do a few sets of Russian twists before I decide to end my workout for the night.

I leave the gym dripping sweating, patting myself with a towel every few seconds as I take the stairs to my house.

I take a cold, not very relaxing but refreshing shower and call it a night.

…

I wake up only to have gotten four hours of sleep.

I have a text from Julian

Warehouse is straight , partners are informed, rivals at arms length, nothin significant on cameras and Millie is improving, getting out in a few hours. Do u want me to pick them up from the hospital and bring them here or to Millie's?

I don't know why all of that pisses me off but it just fucking does. I'm no where closer to finding anything out.

Me: bring them here

A few hours pass by and there's a knock at the door.

Millie is slightly hunched over appearing to be in pain and it softens my demeanor.

Julian and Steph are behind her, "you guys can go now thanks," I say to them.

They nod and leave us alone.

"Cmon, come in," I say to Millie.

She slowly walks in but I can't take her turtle movements anymore so I pick her up in my arms and walk her to my bedroom, laying her on the bed.

"Thank you," she says embarrassed.

She looks like a disaster, don't get me wrong she's still gorgeous but she's definitely been through it. Her hair is tangled, make up messy, looks like she hasn't slept for days and she's wearing what appears to be Stephanie's clothing.

"I'll run you bath," I say walking away.

"I can't," she announces.

"Why not?" I ask confused and a little agitated.

"The doctor said no baths for at least three days after my procedure," she explains, depression etching her face.

I nod my head, "okay."

I take two towels out of the linen closet and bring them into the bathroom, hanging them on a hook.

Millie has a puzzled look on her face when I come back out.

Although I'm not her biggest fan at the moment, I love this woman to death regardless and it's my job to take care of her.

I take off my shirt, socks and pants but leave my boxers on.

"What are you doing?" She asks like I've just lost my mind before her very eyes.

"Taking a shower," I say.

I walk over to her, pull the shirt over her head, unsnap her bra and strip her down of everything else. I pick her up and walk us over to the shower. I set her down only to turn on the water and make sure it's nice and warm. I pick her back up and hold her underneath the warm water, washing away excess blood that resided on her legs.

She holds onto me as the water and soap have become slippery between the two of us. Not one word is spoken in this time. I get us out, wrap a towel around her and carry her back to bed.

I dry myself off and rummage through drawers for clothes. I pick out a black hoodie and dress Millie in it.

"Sleep," I demand now that she's all clean and clothed.

I get in on the other side of the bed but keep my distance away from Millie.

"X?" She asks out quietly.

"What?" I ask emotionless.

"Thank you," she says delicately.

"Mhm," I hum out before I fall asleep myself.
