1 Year of Beginning

“Give me one year of your life and I’ll give you the money you need.” Feng Mian is a normal and down to earth modern woman. She just wanted an ordinary life, an ordinary job and find an ordinary man to marry in the future. (Yes, all should be ordinary). But when family matters took a turn for the worst, she faced a huge dilemma called shortage of money. Suddenly, a contract came due to a series of coincidences. Zhang Liang was fed up with his father's (yes, father not mother) matchmaking schemes for him. He wanted to have a peaceful year because this was his chance to expand his business overseas, yet his father didn’t seem to get the message. When an ordinary fresh graduate employee in his company accidentally saw a scene, he decided to take the chance. “Since she has a normal background with nothing remarkable, nothing should go wrong, right?” Browsing through the contract, Feng Mian gritted her teeth. 'Fine. It was just one year of my life anyway. I wouldn't lose a lot.' But was it true? Or would that one year turn out to be a ride full of ups and down for both of them? ... Somehow, getting along?

Feng Mian looked at Zhang Ai in doubts. What did she mean by the most important thing? In any case, she knew how to cook because she had been living by herself ever since her brother left. Her mother used to work until late at night, so she had to be the one to prepare meals for herself.

"So, can you cook?" Zhang Ai repeated the question since Feng Mian answered with an uncertain tone.

"Yes. I can cook."

"That's good! Liang Ge, I'll be visiting your mansion from now on!"

What?

Feng Mian was confused when she saw Zhang Ai so happy. She turned her head to Zhang Liang, hoping for him to help her out a bit. At the very least, tell her why it was so important to be able to cook!

Zhang Liang sighed. "You see. The most important thing for my wife in Zhang Ai's eyes is the fact that they can cook."

The most important thing…

Is to cook???

Hearing that requirement, Feng Mian was speechless. Is Zhang Ai still a little kid? From what she knew, Zhang Ai was even older than her. How come the requirement for being her sister in law is to be able to cook?

"That's important, Liang Ge!" Zhang Ai protested. "If you can't cook, you won't be able to eat harmoniously. Eating delicious food with your family members is A MUST!"

She stressed on the two words at the end of her sentence, feeling satisfied with herself. Seeing how Zhang Ai was so fixated on food, Feng Mian internally prayed for her future husband. He must be someone who could win Zhang Ai over with his cooking skill.

"Do you forget that we have chef at home?"

"Homemade cooking is still the best."

Zhang Liang no longer talked about this matter. He knew that he would never be able to win against Zhang Ai whenever they were talking about food. It would be better if he just focused his attention elsewhere.

Zhang Ai humped. "I can't believe you didn't tell her about me, Liang Ge! How could you forget this beautiful and adorable little sister?"

"It's because you're too noisy."

"What?! I'm not!"

"Yes, you are."

Pfft!

Feng Mian couldn't hold back anymore and let out a small laugh. Zhang Liang was known as a devil in his company. Every employee knew that they could anger anyone but Zhang Liang. After all, if they still treasured their lives, no one would try to get on the bad side of this devilish president.

This would be the first time for her to see Zhang Liang like this. He was bantering and chatting normally with his sister. The contrast was so big that she nearly couldn't believe her eyes.

Zhang Ai moved closer to Feng Mian. "I'm not noisy, right?"

"Yes, you're not noisy."

Hearing that, Zhang Ai beamed. "See. Even my second sister in law says that I'm not noisy! Bleh!"

Zhang Liang decided to stop talking to his sister. He looked at Zhang Yi, who was busy drinking his tea while watching their conversation. It seemed that he was having fun seeing the youngsters bantered with each other.

"So, Father, have I satisfied your curiosity?"

"Not yet," Zhang Yi replied as he set the cup down. "So, when will you announce your marriage?"

"Not now," Zhang Liang furrowed his brows. Thinking about the reporters who would flood his place when he announced the news already gave him a headache. The only reason he asked Feng Mian to be his wife was because he didn't want his father to meddle into his schedule again. Just that annoying Su woman barged into his company was already more than enough.

He wanted to focus on developing his company. This year would be awfully crucial, so he didn't want to be tangled into any unnecessary problems. That was especially true for problems that stemmed out from his father.

Zhang Yi arched his eyebrows. "Oh? Planning to keep it a secret for now."

"Yes."

"Why? Don't tell me that you don't want anyone to look at your wife."

"That's true," Zhang Liang acknowledged with a straight face.

Zhang Yi nearly rolled his eyes. Zhang Ai might believe those words because this little girl easily believed reason concerning feelings. But how could he believe his son's words just like that?

He had known his son for his entire life, so he knew that Zhang Liang was not one to be easily swayed by emotions. If he didn't want to announce it, there must be a different reason. Unfortunately, he also knew that if Zhang Liang was determined to not tell, he would never be able to find the answer.

"I thought you're going to pursue that deal now that you're married."

Zhang Liang arched his eyebrows, recalling about the offer to work together if he could get married. It might be a weird requirement, but the opposite party came from a country that believed that marriage is a sign of stability. They were more likely to make a deal with those who were already married.

"This is not the right time."

"Hmm, I see." Zhang Yi would not meddle on the company's decision from Zhang Liang. He might be the previous company's president, but after he handed the company to Zhang Liang, he had never touched the matter of the company anymore.

"Anything else?"

"Yes. Since you're already married, when will you give me a grandchild?"
