This is a really interesting children’s story with a tacked-on romance. The tone tries to be both silly-happy romance amd dark, gritty war piece, and it feels gross. The two lovebirds will be flirting like high schoolers and then the narrator tells us that they’re hardened warriors, and they’ll kill hundreds of innocent people. In a completely stupid way, like lighting buildings on fire with barrels of gunpowder, instead of using said gunpowder as a bomb. The author could have written a pretty good sappy romance, but tried to make it dark, and failed. Try Adorable Food Goddess if you want a dark romance. Side note, the action is about as exciting as beige wallpaper.
