Synopsis
At 29, Zoe Xu died in a fatal car crash. In her last moments, she saw her husband Hugh Pei hugging Lila Wei—his "true love"—and learned of her family’s bankruptcy. This became the cruel end to her marriage, which had started as a business alliance. But fate reset her life. Zoe woke up three months into her marriage, still unbroken by Hugh’s emotional neglect and clinging to a faint hope for their relationship. This time, the proud City A heiress refused to submit. She ignored Hugh’s coldness, handed him divorce papers first, and focused on reclaiming her family’s losses—her past love and hatred now gone. Yet things shifted. Hugh, who once treated home like a hotel, started returning on time and brought her hot coffee during late work nights. His odd behavior unsettled Zoe: was it the butterfly effect of her rebirth, or a new plot? A surprise waited at "Encounter Café": Lila Wei, whom Hugh cherished, worked there, smiling brightly. But Zoe saw pure innocence in Lila’s eyes—maybe this "true love" never knew she was a "weapon" against Zoe. As Hugh and Lila fell in love again, Zoe wondered: is revenge the only way? From endurance to strength, Zoe regained her family’s honor in business while untangling her emotions. Hugh’s late affection, Lila’s innocence, and her own self-discovery wove a complex web. She finally understood: rebirth isn’t about hatred, but choice—drown in the past, or chase a future that’s hers. This is a story of female awakening: when marriage’s illusion and the "perfect rival’s" halo break, a battle for self begins. Amid the city’s neon, two growing souls collide, bringing sweet-anguish emotional chess, a satisfying comeback, and courage to rebuild from ruins. This urban romance—mixing second chances, strong leads, and real reflections—will pull you in. Life has no true do-overs, but we always hold the power to rewrite our endings.

Alright, I'm a bit new to web novels, but I read manga and light novels before coming here. This novel follows Laurence Vidi, an unemployed Lawyer who is a NEET. He gets pulled into becoming a money launderer by two desperate criminals and now needs to learn how to launder or die. In the beginning the story seemed to be going for a Law firm success story but now resembles Ozark more. It has a simple but effective formula, Laurence needs to launder more money, tries something new, get's into a problem, get's out of it, and meets some new side characters and a bit of worldbuilding is done. Already introduced characters are developed as they interact with Laurence more. The author also started something new by giving important side characters their own POV to flesh the story out faster in different areas. We don't get much info on Laurence himself, other than his family are wealthy but estranged from him. Tiny details are littered in chapters, small things like how his mother would take him back but his father wouldn't, or how Laurence is used to budgeting but is also irresponsible with money. He's a demotivated disillusioned millennial who can't put in hard work unless his life is on the line because he's disconnected with reality. The update schedule for this novel is needs a lot of work, but the author seems to be putting in some work recently to pumping out some chapters regularly. So far, a 4 is about as high as I'll rate it. The writing quality is nice, Avencourt is interesting but the novel still needs more chapters before I'd give it a final rating.

A less common but still interesting trope is the 'reincarnation' trope. In some fanfictions, Garroth and Laurence are reborn in different lifetimes and keep finding each other. This trope allows for exploring different historical or fantastical settings while still maintaining the core of their relationship. It gives the authors a chance to be creative with different time periods and how their relationship adapts in each one.
