How about using his existing magical abilities and affinity so the MC can minmax himself, he can find spots where lightning strikes using iron rods and get repeatedly striked by lightning, then heal using his blue flames, so his body get adapted to it and eventually able to play with it, he is from Durrandon bloodline after all. He can even try to swim in Volcanic Lava on Dragonstone, both him and the dragons, so their bodies adapt with the help of the healing flames. He can use the same method on his dragons too, get hit by lightning strikes repeatedly, healing flames, swim in Lava, healing flames, then repeat cycle continously. It then may allow for further mutations in the dragons themselves, after all dragons are magically and biologically engineered by the Valyrians. Cerraxes can end up looking somewhat similar to Valstrax from Monster Hunter games, his wings would be able to expel flames to increase his speed, somewhat similar to Jet engines, but biologically. They can even, maybe, generate lightning or use lightning to strike alongside flames, like Bayle from Elden Ring. Maybe his bond with his dragons alongside the training methods I mentioned before would allow his dragons to evolve as such, they might end up like a nerfed version Ancient Dragons from Elden Ring. Because he will need all the help he can get, The Long Night in lore isn't simple, rather an eldricht horror, not to mentioned every other monstrosity that awakened with magic in Essos and Sothoryos.
