Why is that always needs to be a self insert MC from earth who died, and got transferred to another world, where they finally acquire the power of an anime character. Why couldn’t we just take the anime character over to the other world. How come that the Aizen from earth memorys overwrites the one from Naruto, but the original Aizen doesn’t override the self insert protagonist from earth.

popularity. That's literally it, they want a self insert so they can insert themselves into that series, and characters that have their personality won't be as enjoyable as having an SI or OC, unless they changed the personality of the character, which just makes it an OC with the face of that character, kind of annoying tbh.

Because that is less interesting, and I doubt authors could keep the fic going without screwing up the characters original personalities otherwise. This type is better and easier.

You need to be Smart to actually write Aizen right, and we all know how hard that first part is.

If you say that a character 'Aizen' has reincarnated into the world of naruto, then you would have to be as close as possible to the original dipiction of 'Aizen' made by the original artist. The problem however is that not everything is known about that character, so the fanfic author would have to improvise, which might not align with the 'Aizen' in the readers Head-Cannon, which would leave people dissapointed. Alternatively, modelling the main character as 'a normal guy from earth' makes the reader be able to identify with the main character more easily.
