I don’t like the decision the main character made at all, especially when he practically killed himself just because of Subaru and restarted all over again. And then there’s also the part of him somehow now liking Emilia. How and why? I don’t hate her but why is she the love interest? How did he fall for her when he didn’t have the greatest opinion of her to begin with? It was random and forced.

Going by my previous posts with the author I am 80% sure he wanted to bash or spite Subaru. Leaving Subaru to stay dead would take him out of the story which wouldn't let him do the previous. Same with his 180 on Emilia as she is Subaru love interest.

Subaru is too good plot device to not exploit lol. Plus his knowledge is important given what Mc knows about the future and how the knowledge Subaru holds connects to said future events. So why not abuse Return By Death now since it'll be a hassle later down the line if he didn't save Subaru? Mild inconvenience now vs Big headache later. With Emilia, its easy to not like a character when its just text on a paper, but when it becomes real, it changes perspective.. Literally..
