depends how long the chapters are, i usually like giving at least 80 free chapters before locking, because my chapters are quite short, but if yours are long, like over 2k words, maybe at 50, it wouldnt be so bad, when you start locking chapters is when you get features for more readers to find your story

Another important thing to note when you lock your chapters is that to keep readers engagement, make sure it ends in some sort of important cliffhanger, i know its a bit scummy, but it'll make readers instantly buy the first few locked chapters and become more engaged, so you have to plan it out a bit
