Too much Chinese works on the latter half, I love those movies but it wasn't really important to the story. From Magical Realism to pure delusional fantasy. Ball Lightning wasn't even published at that time, but MC somehow "adapted" it to a series.

There's a surprising amount of knowledge actually tossed into the novel. The whole thing felt very rough at first, but its not to hard to steamroll past that and genuinely enjoy the MC rising up.
