He has no reason to not use his system to level up his spells, it cost only 5 points to level up a spell at the elementary realm, it's very cheap he can gain more with one extraction. Way better than spending months of training, it is more costly to level up a higher realm spell with points but on the other side you'll need years of training. In short using the system is always the superior option. About his personality it will be explained later. That being said this novel has a lot of flaws but the points you're talking about don't bother me because it's logic even if it was not explained like that.

For the same reason, the higher your stats the more training and expensive materials/potions you need, instead of losing his time for little amelioralitions he s better to use the system and keep his time to study.
