I love that it isn't your typical system, and that you aren't ruining it with needless humor. The premise of the story is, so far, very interesting. Please don't fall into the trap of bad comedy like so many other authors.

Do not worry. Each comedic situation has its own time and place. I try to stick with the original characters and only add humor when it fits the story best.
