That's exactly it though. It's very expensive to train and maintain such troops. Not all of them will even have the talent needed. They can also only punch through armor from a certain distance, and whilst they might be able to kill a lot of cavalry, they still need insane mobility so they don't die fast, which is incredibly hard due to the size of a longbow. Anyway, they are incredibly uncommon

Not at all. Fenris can travel around 1500-2000 miles a day. The armies move so slow that it is all too easy for him to catch up. He arrived at Old Wyk with Ser Barristans forces, and he arrived later than Robert's forces at Pyke. They had already won the two first Sieges which should have taken days, and they spent more time Sieging Pyke as well. Aegon was using that time to Travel from Old Wyk to Pyke. Medieval warfare is slow as heck. It takes a lot of time to for armies to move with Siege engines etc. whilst Aegon can potentially travel from The Wall to Riverrun in a day or two.
