Warning for new readers: This novel takes a lot of time to build up, the first 100 chapters are only enough to help the reader understand the power system better. A lot of people accuse the start as fillers but it is extremely necessary for later plot so don't skip it. Furthermore, the power system is taken from Pathfinder (a dnd game) so prepare for NUMBERS.

LIKEIndeed. So far, the novel has literally iceberg sized info-dumps between the storyline and that kinda drags a little bit the plot progression. But I do really think is a promising novel, just like Mages are OP, The Boss behind the game, Gamers of the underworld and the other novels of their same style/genre, OMG earthlings: Gamers on a video game world witch is not a video game but another world.

I have read up to chapter 33, but the MC seems like a average joe with a few minor perks and a tiny advantage despite having been reincarnated back in time. The detailed explanation about magic feels like a documentary about a make-believe setting. There is nothing terrible about what I read, but does the story become compelling at any point? By compelling I mean something that drives the story beyond simply learning magic and becoming stronger?
Yes, quite a few actually. He actually got quite a few interesting (quite balance breaking but not completely OP) specialties. He fought a lot of enemies above his level and almost got screwed a few times.
