Guesed as much, i read eragon about 6-8 years ago so didn't recall small details
The strain a the end is suppoed to be strain from body enchantment he did.
You could just make it so wild magic would put a strain on the body of the user as the raw magic is somehow unstable. Of course that could be pretty easly solved by using a medium like Ancient Language, staffs, something like philosopher's stone, magic circles etc... it would solve the OPnes of wild magic yet still leave way for MC finding better and better FOCUS for his magic. It would synergize nicely with LOTR if you consider Gandalf staff and the rings as magical foci. You could make him discover existence of magical veins and enchant them with the metorite metal for better durability and magic conductivity which would make him still able to cast absurd magic compared to other magic users of eragon universe. Add a bit of time to his stay with the dwarfs where he's knocked out by the strain and you could skip a good deal of rewriting but that's just my opinion.
I feel very called out here... Personally prefer 2nd choice even though it's propably harder to write but both are good. I hope the MC can take some inspiration from other stories and try learn some magic like reverse animagus from Harry Potter or develop unique magic like dragons from Draconic Deus. If you go with the 2nd choice please don't make the rider Male as it would feel kinda weird. You could try adding female OC in that case like an abandoned half elf girl that would normally die from urgals or something like that and be saved by the MC.
It's weird because it was about him being riderless and several times mentioned how it's sad and terrible for MC to not have a rider and be so lonely...
The thing is im pretty sure in vault of souls it was mentioned there were wild dragons right before the riders war. It was long time ago i read it but im sure there was a mention of galbatorix killing off wild dragons. And now i think about it it was mentioned that only part of the eggs were given to riders to find their riders.
The only thing i can say wrong about this fanfic is that dragons without riders were a normal thing even in rider era before galbatorix did the purge. So Brom's over the top reaction to a dragon without a rider is a bit overdone. Also would be nice if he tried to use some magic taking inspiration from dragons in different stories.
Honestly the lore is very fck up as by definition sorcerers are innate magic users often with bloodlines but in let's say Marvel they are more like the definition of wizards that uses equations and knowledge to use ambient magic. Same with HP where they use innate magic but are called wizards. Warlocks are mostly demon/fey related by either being descended of one or making contracts with one which means both of us are kinda correct. Also as fey/demons have very vague description in many fantasy settings where an animal that gains powers and sentience in xianxia/wuxia is considered a demon most of the time. Honestly my visualization of what warlock is comes from "Warlock in Magus World"
Magic based on lineage... that's warlocks not sorcerers.
That's just shows how low you fell and how pitable you are...
