I found the book full of racism. The girl was discriminated against for being from a poor background with no education and her physical features. She in turn discriminates against others. Apparently, “black” skin is ugly. Now why would I eventually waste my money reading a book written by someone who thinks having a darker skin means you’re ugly?

Agree that it does, but unfortunately it seems to be fairly common in a lot of the CN novels so I must admit I just cringe and try to skip past it. :(

im not supporting this by any means but in countries like china, japan, korea etc darker skin is considered uglier. it’s a social norm, just racism embedded into culture. that’s why reading these types of novels, the heroines are described to be having “white pale skin” so maybe the author incorporated the social circumstances. i wouldn’t know if that’s what happened but sadly in east asian countries darker does equal uglier.

I wouldn't even consider that racism. It's just... a preference really. You can dislike black skin color as a sexual preference without being racist you know.

Yes and keep playing the victim card as if you've suffered every tragedy in the world. Don't worry it's not your fault, it just shows a lot about your background. The short and long end of it is, while I don't know what's going on in the novel since I haven't read it, I see a lot of people yelling that just thinking darker skin colors are ugly is racist. It isn't. If people think dark skinned people are ugly, that's just their preference. Does it actually mean they're ugly? No. However, they're justified in their belief because it's still a preference in the end. Now if they look down on and discriminate against people with darker skin color just because they have dark skin color, then you could claim racism. That's not a preference anymore, that's just being an asshole. However, most of these comments, in the way they're framed make it seem like Asians are just naturally racist toward black people. They aren't. Stop claiming racism against everything. Once again, this is in no relation to the novel since I haven't read it and I'm just purely looking through the comment section with everyone claiming Asians are raised to be racist. Just because Asians don't like darker skin tones as a form of beauty, DOES NOT MAKE THEM RACIST.

You haven’t even read the novel and you actually accuse someone of playing the victim card, i read Chinese novels where the mc becomes whiter and thus prettier but i have no problem with that as i understand that it is embedded in their culture, but in this book the they directly tied the aspect of being black and ugly to Africans which I cannot accept. You claim that someone thinking all dark skinned people are ugly is preference, but no that is just plain ignorance, and yes the fact that you could spout all that confidently says a lot about your background of ignorance.

Yeah whatever, believe what you want. People have the right to dislike something as a sexual preference. It just shows the type of bubble you live in where you think everyone should think like you or they're a bigot. I've met your type before. Not going there again. Keep forcing your objective ideals on others. Good day.

I can see you are pretty staunch in your beliefs, that enables you to defend racism expressed in a book you haven’t read. Talking to you is useless, hopefully you gain more life experiences that can affect your thinking pattern. P.s. Having sexual preferences is different from holding a stereotypical opinion on a group of people in general.

Yeah same to you buddy. Keep on believing everyone who dislikes black people as a sexual partner is racist. Also just a note, I didn't read the book but that doesn't change the fact that all the reviews are spewing **** about how Asians are all racists for not liking black skin. Regardless of the racist **** in the book, that statement is false and is just your projection on Asian people.

To everyone on here trying to reason that this is not a racist novel. It's okay to say she was pretty and fair, its okay to say she had skin like jade, its okay to say she was standing in a field under the harsh conditions of the sun causing her skin to peel and that made her look unattractive. IT IS NOT OKAY TO SAY SHE LOOKS LIKE SHE CAME FROM AFRICA. Its time us readers demand a higher standard from our novels. It is NOT okay to say people from a certain country or continent are all ugly, it is NOT okay to brush it off as a cultural difference, it is NOT okay to say that one's skin color is automatically ugly because it is a certain color or outside the ethnic norm.

It really disappoints me with the amount of people that call this story racist. It really is a culture difference that many people can’t understand. In many asian countries such as China pale skin represents beauty. It’s not that they’re trying to be racist but because of their history. In ancient China dark skin girls were the commoners who worked in the fields while light skin represents the elites who had the privilege to just stay at home and learn many different skills that are expected of a wife. So naturally these pale skin girls are more graceful because of the environment they grew up in. As time went on white pale skin is just seen as beauty. From my personal experience, I used to live in California, there I just wanted to be tan. Cuz everyone just sees tan skin as beautiful. I would often get questions like why or how are u so pale. I didn’t really care much but at the same time I always wanted to be more tan. However, when I moved to New York there were more asian immigrants around me where in their country pale white skin is seen as beauty. At that time I really started seeing the big culture difference. In some parts of the world people would go out to tan and in other parts no matter how hot it is they will cover themselves because they want to be pale. This story really is not racist from my perspective. If anyone hasn’t noticed almost all the female leads in Webnovel are described to have white, pale skin. This is not them trying to be racist or diss dark skin people but because in their culture pale, white skin is beautiful. I recommend that people have an open mind while reading these stories and not to take every word written in the story to heart. Sometimes there are just many phrases from China that are almost impossible to describe in English so the actual meaning is changed too. This really is a great novel so I hope many of u can see past the culture difference and enjoy the novel as it is.
