A Life Restored

At the border between Kentucky and Virginia, two Ground Mobility Vehicles were on a high-speed crossing over.

The road ahead seemed to be paved clean as State Police cleared traffic for them, not that there were many. Only a few passed within the minutes. Other drivers and passerby's that were still on the road, were left dumbfounded to see the police stand guard on certain areas.

They were eager to see the honorary official that was passing through at night rather than in day time. So they got out their cell phones and got ready to film the occasion.

But to their disappointment, they saw two heavily armored vehicles at a high speed. Those who got the footage on time were joyous. And for the rest, only the cold air that was washed by greeted their faces. With this, they waited to see the following motorcade but what they saw left them even more speechless than before.

After the GMVs passed the border to Virginia, the State Police cars started following behind at a close range as if escorting them.

And that left more and more questions than answers.

Since the attack in Los Angeles, so much has happened that made the citizens tremble. And the fact that news channels were unable to give out any more details on the occurrences there. It did break their hearts.

But to every problem, there is a solution. On the internet, people have been posting the occurrences that were happening in L.A.

Though they were just videos that were taken from afar. They still portrayed the severe situation that their fellow countrymen were going through. Fear was all over the country not to say the world.

The government had chosen to prevent the news channels from continuing to spread fear among the other cities and states, as they could have easily dealt with them as they were single organizations. But the fact that interneters were the ones posting the videos, they couldn't do anything about it as you couldn't punish everyone in the country who owned a cell phone and used the internet.

As time went by, many videos have already circulated on the internet and almost a quarter of all the population in the world have seen them as they were in the hot and trending category.

So as the GMVs passed by, people posted the videos and that made an uproar in the people's reaction.

Just like what Francis of Assisi said, that as soon as the fear approaches near, attack and destroy it.

And soon the residents of Virginia started to gather around the roads in the middle of the night. They only reacted this way as they thought that the motorcade consisting of two GMVs and several state police officers were running from the fight and with that, they would bring the enemies to attack them next.

From those that carried bats to those that carried stones. All stood still to await the arrival of the cars.

They weren't much disappointed as they soon had a glimpse of the flashing lights from afar. Soon enough, people were flocking the roads blocking the passage through which the GMVs could pass through.

The GMVs slowed down to a stop just before the group of people blocking the roads.

The feeling was so intense that there was no sound being emitted from anything else except for the passing wind that sent further chills to those people.

The seconds ticking by seemed to be frozen in place as nothing further happened. Even the state police on the back seemed keen not to interfere with the situation and see how it could play out.

Then all of a sudden, one of the back doors of the second GMV opened and Jacob stepped out clad in his full military attire from head to toe. His appearance made the people gasp with shock as they saw the ashen face that the Bravo Team leader carried.

It was like he was from a construction site and hadn't worn any protective pieces of equipment when he was working. But the black spots on him indicated otherwise, as the street lights couldn't distinguish any further. Only one thing remained to confirm their guesses. It was blood, real human blood.

Then the chilled air carried the stench to their nostrils. The crowd started to clear the roads on their own as they knew that the human standing in front of them, wasn't the same as they were. Rather he resembled the grim reaper himself.

With that done, Bravo 1 entered the GMV and they rode off without further incidents.

Still holding the girl in my hands, a dark-colored mist escaped my body and surrounded the unconscious girl.

Though it was nighttime and mostly, no one could comprehend to see past ten meters, to me it was like a hilarious joke. I could see everything in the dark. Not that I could see as clear as day time but it was better than most people even in the army.

And right in front of me, a sinister dark aura was taking shape as it encircled the girl.

[She needs an energy source to keep her alive until she makes a full recovery.] The voice inside my head said.

Though it was disturbing and humiliating at the same time, I couldn't do anything about it as I didn't know anything concerning the matter.

'What do you mean when you say an energy source?' I asked as I couldn't understand the meaning of what he was saying.

[Take it this way. Every life form in the world feeds off the energy of something greater for it to continue living. And when that thing dies, the energy is released in the atmosphere and it integrates with everything to make the world evolve more than it had been.]

'So where can we find this energy source?' I asked as I knew that there was a possibility of an answer.

[There are rules into which the world runs, young simian. You break those and you cause severe consequences upon the universe on a cosmic scale.]

'So what do you mean by that?' I asked again as I was impatient with how it was explaining the whole thing.

[Simple; for a life to be earned, a life must be taken.] The voice replied and it left me thinking.

'So she is dead?' I blurted out the unthinkable as I understood the meaning behind the words.

And when the voice didn't reply it only confirmed my suspicions. How was I ever gonna tell her mother that her child was already dead? I was left in a dilemma.

[With that, there are several ways to tackle the situation. Currently, there are more than a thousand people who have died, and still, part of their energy hasn't been altered by the earth. We can simply gather enough and bind it into her, that will enable her to live until the energy drains off.]

'That is better than telling her mother that her child is dead. Do it.' I said as I released a sigh of relief.

It would be a shame that I would hesitate to save a person after more than a thousand have died because of me. It was just unforgivable.

[But I must warn you that everything comes at a price and consequences.] The voice warned as the white mist began to converge around us and started to penetrate inside the girl's body.

After only a second, I could see her chest heaving up and down. Realizing that she was once again breathing, I thanked the voice wholeheartedly but it didn't respond.

Just as the missiles were ejected from the Hypersport, the entity inside of me already felt the raw power that they released. The energy fluctuations that were left behind were enough for something with its ability to notice it from afar.

It just continued to work through with me while keeping a close eye on the approaching missiles. It didn't react at first as it knew that the missiles were headed where we were in Los Angeles.

But now that it didn't respond, I knew that something was off but I couldn't just think of what it was.

With just a flick of my hands, the girl floated in mid-air as if she weighed nothing. And in just a few seconds, she was in her mothers' arms who was crying nonstop from the joy of holding her daughter again.

She was so engrossed in that joyous moment that she didn't notice that her daughter's visage became rosier and healthy than she was before.

And a couple of miles away from us, the two missiles had already reached their destination and were ready to explode, but the most absurd thing happened of all time.

Just as they were igniting, the space and time around them were being distorted. In just a fraction of a second, the missiles were seen to be suspended in mid-air with their thrusters still burning but no movements were recorded.

Near the border between California and Oregon, a Hypersport was traveling at over 340 m/h. It was a speed that it hadn't reached since its making, but now Aya was pushing it too far for they were on a rescue mission.

"Some interference has stopped the missiles from completing the work." Aya reported as multiple live feeds engulfed the Hypersport so that Rue could confirm it.

"How is this possible?" Rue asked while watching the feed.

Around the area that still had several helos from the US military and also the drones that were still roaming around. One could just notice the oddity with just a single glance.

While the other flying objects were seen to be leisurely on the air still flying, the missiles were like they were frozen and could move.

"Do something fast so that we don't lose the element of surprise though we have already." Rue said as she kept thinking of what she was seeing even if she knew that it was impossible.

"Emergency override initiated."
