The Blue Eyed Girl

The whole electricity in the city had shut down. The situation was tense and eerie. A small house made out of woods painted white. A 16 years old girl hugging his 7 years old brother. A family of four. At first, they never thought that it would become this bad.

"Honey, are you okay?" the girl's father asked her.

"I'm okay Dad, I'm fine. How about you and mom?"

"Yeah, we're cool…take care of your brother, alright?"

Her brother clung to her body tightly.

"Sis, I'm scared". He whispered

"It's going to be fine, we're going to be okay." The girl tried to console her brother, even though she felt nervous as well.

It had been about one month since they were hiding inside the house. Outside of the house, something dangerous roamed around the neighborhood. Her family was quite lucky to have some food in the house. Her father had a hobby of piling up canned food in their bunker. So, they actually had more than enough for the entire year.

It had never passed her mind that what her father said would come true. Her father always had huge anxiety about how this world going to end one day. He recently resigned from his previous job as a researcher, and ever since then, her father always bought canned food, survival kits, and several books to survive in the wild.

The girl never thought that it would come in handy at times like this. But what was more horrifying to her was how his father know that this disaster going to happen. What is his father doing at work? she only knew that her father is a researcher, but what kind of researcher? and her father never really wanted to talk about it too.

However, no matter how much food they have in the bunker. It didn't matter. One day, they would need to go out of their house. At that time, the problem was medicine. Her brother, Conor had asthma ever since he was born. The weather was not helping too. It's cold autumn. They only had one more bottle of inhaled corticosteroids.

While hugging her brother the girl said to her father. " Dad, it's okay let me go tomorrow. I have learned what you taught me so far, and you know I'm good at it. Let me go get Conor's medication,"

"No, I will go, you stay here with your mom and your brother." Her father replied.

"Dad, please, you know that I need to learn how to survive too. I can do it."

"Okay, fine. You will go with me, but you have to follow my rules,"

In the morning, the girl prepared to go with his father. They brought some guns, two bags with first aid, a flashlight, rope, some water, duct tape, and canned food just enough for two of them. The girl's chest felt tight. She had never been out all this time. Of course, every day her father taught her how to survive to this day. Today she's going to apply her knowledge in real life. Part of her felt excitement in his stomach, another part filled up her body with anxiety.

"Please be safe," Her mother kissed her Father on his cheek, and hers too.

"Wish us luck," Said the girl with a faint smile.

Her father and the girl intended to go to the closest drugstore near their house. They walked the silent road. There were many dead bodies on the street. The girl tried to stay alert at all times holding her gun. Her heart was pounding.

Her father who walked in front of her suddenly stopped.

"Dad…what's going on?" The girl trembled.

"They are here. Be prepared to shot them down"

Her father was right. A number of monstrous-looking men coming at them from the back of a car. They were all fast and huge. Their bodies were covered in blood. Their faces were disfigured and their eyes were all empty. The girl and her father started to shoot their target. They kept on shooting after the creatures. One by one, each of them fell to the ground.

In seconds, they both managed to accomplish their mission.

"Wow, you're amazing! you did great, honey," Her father brushed her hair proudly.

"Thanks, Dad," The girl couldn't help to feel relieved too.

They decided to walk again, and in no time they finally arrived at the drugstore. There was no sign of life there. Just an empty drugstore. The drugs were shrouded in dust. It was dark inside. After looking at the shelves, the girl finally found the medicine that she was looking for for her brother. Meanwhile, the Father took several other drugs and items that possibly help them in the future.

After collecting all the items they needed, they went back to the front door and had a smooth exit. On way back home, there were several attacks from the monsters but it was not a hindrance for both of them. Like father like daughter. They both made a great team and were quite skillful at using guns.

Until the girl stepped into her front house door. There was a sudden uneasiness coming from the back of her throat. The house door was a bit open.

"Honey, get back here, there's something inside" Her father's voice spluttered.

"Don't make any sound"

The father carefully opened the door. It was a horrifying scene. There was blood everywhere. On the walls, floor, and ceilings. The girl found it hard to breathe. She almost choked on herself. The thought of her mother and brother died spinning around her head. Suddenly it felt as like all the air on this earth was taken away from her.

Both of them could hear the sound of munching. There's something inside the house devouring its prey. They finally saw the creature. The ugly huge looking creature eating her mother and her brother's bodies.

"Noooo! What have you done?" The girl shouted in pain desperately.

Without thinking she started to shoot the creature. However, it was so strong that even a bullet couldn't hurt it. The creature was seemingly angry and aimed its attack at the girl. But the father was faster, he shot the thing eyes and it began to scream with an unpleasant sound. It could ring your ears.

"Oh no, he did it" The father breathed harder.

"He called his friends,"

The father shot the creature nonstop until it finally couldn't move. However, the nightmare didn't end there. From the back of the girl, there were like 5 other creatures getting ready to finish them off. These creatures were similar to the ones that ate her mother and brother. They could crawl to ceilings, faster, and more vicious.

In a shock state and despair, the girl tried her best to shoot all the creatures. There was nothing she could think beside hatred. She shot the creatures brutally. After killing 4 of these creatures. The girl looked back to check on her father. It was unlucky for her. Her father was being bitten by the creature. She shot the last creature. However, her father was already on the brink of death.

"Dad! no…don't leave me," The girl whimpered.

He hugged her father tightly. "Honey listen to me, could you please take an injection in my bag?"

"No, dad…you're going to die," She's crying her heart out.

"Please just do it, and give it to me" Her father tried to stay as composed as possible as he panted.

The girl took the injection with a blue liquid on it. The girl thought that maybe it was medicine for his father. But instead, her father stabbed her legs with it. The girl's eyes widened. She felt betrayed by her father.

"Dad? Why did you do it?" Her voice was shaky.

"I'm sorry. This is the last thing I could do for you as your father."

The girl lost her consciousness.

"So, what happened?" The black-haired boy stares at the girl with confusion.

"Just stay there,"

The girl bends down to take the boy's knife and then she puts it in her bag.

"I'm going to have your knife for a while because I don't know what you're going to do with me," The girl squints her eyes while the boy feels helpless.

"But, I'll probably need it to protect myself," The boy begs.

"No, you won't, cause you have me."

The boy gets mesmerized by the girl's words. She seems confident. That minute he almost falls for her. The idea of being protected by a girl has never crossed her mind. Funny enough, he likes it. Being with the girl makes him feel something new.

"Well okay.." The boy shrugs as his cheeks become red.

"Why are you blushing?" She suddenly feels embarrassed too.

"I don't know, just tell me what is happening right now, okay?"

"I'm not really sure myself, there was this big virus and several people got infected. "

"So…like zombie apocalypse?"

"Yeah similar, there were people who got infected and immediately died. But some people got infected and turned into ugly-looking creatures, they became strong, unbeatable, and fast."

"And what about us?" The boy frowns after the girl's explanation.

"Perhaps…we're those people who could withstand the virus. I actually never met another human besides you after my family died."

"You have a family?"

"Yeah, I used to, okay enough talking about me here. I don't want to spill too much information."

"How long has this been happening?"

"About three months."

"You know now that I am looking at you." The girl gives the boy a death stare.

"You look like the ones who got infected." The girl shoves her knife to the boy's face.
