Sleepless Night

"You look like the ones who got infected." The girl shoves the knife to the boy.

"It's like you're in the early stage of it, or are you just simply have always looked like this in your entire life? wait but you said you lost your memories."

"What do you mean? do people in their early-stage look like me?"

"Yes they look very pale, their eyes turn black, and your skin…" The girl touched the boy's hand.

"You have no heat….unlike me."

The boy could feel the warmth from the girl's hand that brushes his skin. What the girl says could be true. Is he one of the infected? Unlike him, the girl is so alive. Her skin is bright. Her cheeks are rosy. Her eyes are clear like the blue sky. Everything about the girl is pleasant to him. He couldn't help but worry that there might be truth in the girl's words.

"If that's true, then does it mean we could not be together?" The boy becomes sad.

"I guess I have no right to say this to you too since I'm not really sure whether I'm infected or not," The girl replies as she pulls back her knife.

"What do you mean?" The boy asks.

Then again the girl stops talking.

"I am thinking that maybe it is not a bad idea to be together since we might both are infected anyway."

"So you'll take me?" The boy's face brightens up.

"The way you say it, I feel like I'm the one who should take responsibility for you. You have to learn how to survive and we need to take care of each other." The girl says calmly.

"I will. I learn how to take care of you, and us."

"Then I'll be in your care," The girl holds the boy's hand.

"Me too," he shakes her hand as their sign of agreement to be together.

The girl is still wary about the boy. It is the first time she takes another person in her place. However, she feels like the boy is not dangerous at all. If anything, he seems very clueless about what is going on right now. Besides that, she feels happy that she finds company for herself.

After walking for several minutes, they arrived in a small minimalistic wooden house. The place is cozy and warm. The girl probably puts a lot of effort to make that place comfortable. The inside of the house is rather simple. There is only one grey couch enough for two, a double-size bed, a radio, a fireplace, and a rack of books beside the bed. There is one bathroom with a small bathtub, rock basin, and toilet.

"Wow, this place is amazing," The boy says in awe.

"I know right? if we walk down, there is a lake, this place is perfect," The girl smiles brightly.

"But there is only one bed, so you'll have to sleep on the couch." Says the girl.

"Okay, fair enough," The boy answers.

"Let's just eat now cause I'm extremely hungry."

The boy is helping the girl prepare their food. They are right beside the fireplace. The girl doesn't really pay attention to what the boy looks like before. However, now being face to face with him, she has to admit now that he's somehow extremely attractive. He has long eyelashes. His eyes are pitch black. And his soft hair falls down perfectly.

"I'm done making fire, could you give me the pot with the food in it? we only need to heat it up right?" the boy's voice surprises the girl.

"Yeah, here you go." she blushes worrying that the boy might be uncomfortable because of her gaze.

They eat their food peacefully. The girl brought a lot of food from her previous house. Therefore, they don't need to really worry about how they gonna eat for several months. If they wanna be extra careful, they surely can always go out to find some other food in the woods and preserve it.

The boy looks at the girl intensely.

"Is there something wrong?" the girl asks.

The boy then wipes sauces in the corner of the girl's mouth. After that, he puts it in his mouth nonchalantly.

"It's no big deal," He smiles.

The girl could feel that her heart is beating so fast. She's afraid that maybe the boy could hear it. It's not a new feeling for her. A very familiar feeling that she felt a long time ago when she was sitting in middle school. It's like she's having a crush. How can she have a crush so fast on a boy she just met? Maybe it's just because of the mood and they are together. Is she so desperate and lonely that she develops feeling for a stranger? wake up!

The girl suddenly jumps up.

"I need to take a bath now, you can have a bath too after me,"

"Okay,"

After the bath, the girl feels way better. However, not with the boy. He feels nervous for some reason. He could smell the shampoo and a body wash scent coming from the girl. He's been feeling and having weird thoughts ever since she met the girl. Weird thought like how they gonna be together. A memory of two birds side to side hanging in a twig in the wood that he saw crosses his mind.

After the boy takes a bath, he hurriedly lays himself on the sofa while the girl tries to sleep on the double-size bed.

That night, both of them couldn't sleep.
