"Evolutions?" a loud murmuring rang through the entire player's hall.
"Well, it is normal for people to be surprised.", David sighed. He wanted Brody to get it over with quickly.
"When you reach the maximum level for a particular Stage, you would need to complete a set of tasks to Evolve to the next stage. Evolving to the next stage improves your current skills while evolving your class as well.", Brody said. "You can call it Evolution or Ascending. "
"The requirements to evolve or ascend will differ for every class, and the better your class, the tougher will be the evolution requirements", he said, stepping back. A pedestal emerged from beneath the ground he was standing before.
He clicked a button on the pedestal, and four lights emerged behind him, "Now you guys can come forward and choose any class that fits your job", Brody said as he walked away.
"Finally!" David rushed ahead, trying to find the NPC handling the classes for Mage's job.
"Hi, my name is James, and I will give you the Mages job classes. Remember, it's an honour to learn magic, which has been given to a pitiful race such as yourself. Do not tarnish the name of the Mage association, or else you will be barred from learning magic." James said in a cold tone.
David calmly waited in line while the other players got their class.
"As expected, most of the players went for Melee or Rogue, as it helped them live their childhood dream of being a protagonist, where they moved around their sword-like anything, slicing down monsters", he muttered.
Finally, the turn after the next player was David's.
"Mr James, I have heard from many NPCs about your wisdom and strong magic capabilities", said the player before David.
"I would suggest you shouldn't do that with a mage", David thought.
James calmly looked at the player before launching a wind spell at him, causing the player to crash into the ceiling.
"A true mage always talks through their capabilities, not bootlicking", he said, looking at David.
David checked James' stats, but only minimal data was available due to the significant level gap.
[ Level: 70, Favourability: 25 (Neutral) ]
"Phew, it really is 25 instead of 0", David thought, looking into James' eyes.
"I need to talk to you in private", he said, crossing his fingers.
The players standing after David started to giggle, "Another one", but to their shock, James didn't do anything.
"Okay. Let's go", James said as he clapped his fingers, and a beautiful young woman ran towards him.
"Take care of the remaining players", he said before looking at David, "Follow me".
The two left the Beginner's Academy while the other players looked at David in shock.
"He is definitely getting a secret class! "
"We need to get information from him."
"Tell all party members to immediately search for that player's whereabouts."
The entire Beginner's Academy was gossiping about how a secret class might be discovered.
James led David to a building next to the Academy.
"Here is my study. So tell me, what did you want to talk about."
David put his hand before James before conjuring the Lesser Fire Spell without using a weapon.
"A newbie mage can conjure mana despite being a human; it's impressive. But that's all, your focus is all over the place; you are using at least 10 times the usual mana", James said, but David had a slight smile on his face, as he could see the changes in James' system.
[ Favourability: 30 (Curious)]
"So, don't I deserve a better class than everyone else?" David smiled, but James maintained his composure, "You do indeed", he said and snapped his fingers.
Suddenly, David's system rang, and he quickly opened it to see the changes.
[ NPC James (uncommon) has allowed you to choose the class Wizard (Rare) ]
"Wizard?" David was not very impressed, as this was available as an option to evolve into every Mage job.
"I am looking for a secret class, not some advanced bullshit", David thought. He knew he was finally given a second chance and would not spare any chance of becoming the best and protecting his loved ones.
"I want something better", David said to James.
"You are not deserving of anything better." James denied David's request.
"How do I prove to you that I am deserving?" David had to resort to his last tactic, an attempt to get a quest for a secret class.
James was silent for some time before David's system rang again.
[ New Quest: Prove your worth by killing the Slime King. Reward: Superior Wizard (Epic)]
"It's impossible to defeat a Slime King alone in a Beginner's Town! You are just sending me to my death."
"You can form a party.", James replied.
"I don't want to. I survived alone, and I will fight alone. I don't trust anyone behind my back", David raised his voice. He had been betrayed so often that he had learned to work alone and didn't want to depend on anyone for his battles.
"I have heard that Carlos in the other Beginner Town gave a high-rank quest to a mage who greatly praised him. I guess mages do like praises more than actual skill." This was David's last-ditch effort. He had seen first-hand how competitive wizards of the mage association were, and he decided to take advantage of it.
"Okay. As you are the first human to pique my interest, I will make an exception", James said, coughing.
[ New Quest: Prove your worth by killing the Slime King alone. Reward: Letter of Recommendation to Sir Rowe (Legendary)]
"If you want to fight alone, then you should get used to fighting enemies stronger than you by yourself.", James said as he started to walk towards his study.
"This is my final offer. Good luck, David", he said, before closing the door.
Only David was left in the living room of the apartment, frozen in a single place.
"LEGENDARY?!" David was shocked to see the quest. He had done a few Legendary quests with Tom in his past life, but they were all after he had travelled to the kingdom. He was surprised to see a legendary quest in the Beginner's Town.
"If this guy Rowe is Legendary, then the class he will give me must be at least legendary as well!" David quickly accepted the quest and happily jumped into James' apartment.
"I did it"
"I did it"
Suddenly, a cold voice rang from towards the study.
"Leave"
"YES, SIR!" David instantly dashed out of the apartment in joy.
"Time to go back to the real world!", he thought, as his first plan had been executed perfectly.
FIRST LEGENDARY QUEST LESGO!
I would like to reiterate that my mc is not a god from previous life who regressed. He was a guy with potential but was never able to utilise it. So he is going to act like a happy kid like we all do when we get smth special.
