Chapter 5

Officer Jimmy! that same Sam I met in the meeting is the same guy that killed my phone arents. They were looking for a case file of Senator Yakubu. I can remember vividly all their conversation that night... I told Officer Jimmy as we arrived at the hotel room he booked for us.

Do you mean you overheard them talking about the case file of Senator Yakubu? Officer Jimmy asked me. I looked at his face as his voice sounded strange. The wariness written on his face was obvious.

Yes sir! They took the briefcase he brought home that night as my father brought it out and told them that the file was in the briefcase. I needed to make Jimmy understand that I knew everything that happened.

In that case, does that means Senator Yakubu is aware of everything that happened? He asked curiously while looking at my face for a response

I only told you what I heard them say, I don't know senator Yakubu. But that was their conversation. How I wish we had a security camera installed in our home, you could've heard it all. I had to convince him as he kept asking me questions.

In that case, we need to sit up. As it involves politicians, it won't just be an ordinary case as usual or else it'll be swept under the carpet. Jimmy said

You've seen it right? That's the reason why I don't want us to go closer to that house now or even stay without being guarded by officers. That Sam can do everything to cover up the mess. Hope you noticed how he was questioning Jessy and even wished to be the team leader for the investigations.

Sandra asked Jimmy showing her concern.

We need not conclude things by imagination. we need evidence ...Jimmy said while trying to play smart in his field.

Which other evidence do you want sir?

Do you mean this is not enough evidence to prove he did it? I asked Jimmy

Which other person can testify that you're saying the truth as there's no CCTV camera to justify your claim? Don't you know it's a mere allegation and may land you in somewhere you don't expect...that's even if you survive... Jimmy had to sound that serious to push me off balance.

Hmm, it's okay but whoever did this to my parents, so far I'm still alive, I must pay them back unless I Die. I said to Jimmy as I noticed hot year drops from my eyes.

Jessy doesn't do something silly oh! You're too young to stand any one of them. And you know he's a trained officer. I don't want you to die young. Please leave the case for the trained people.. Jimmy responded to me while Sandra got up from where she drew me closer to herself and used her hand to wipe my tears. We were still discussing when someone knocked on our door. She introduced herself as one of the workers in the hotel. Jimmy opened the door and she entered with snacks and drinks. She arranged it on the small table in the room and then left us.

Jimmy and Sandra couldn't wait a minute before they started eating the snacks. It seemed as if I lost my appetite. I didn't feel like eating anything. I got it into the bathroom. I was in the bathroom when I heard Jimmy and Sandra discussing how tough the case might be as he told her that Senator Yakubu isn't someone to play with. I even heard him telling her that Senator Yakubu was accused of Kidnapping and money laundering. He said that Senator Yakubu could do such that he won't be surprised if he heard that Yakubu got arrested because he's been terrorizing the state.

Could this be the reason why Sam has chosen to be one of his accomplices? I'm not even safe. Even if I take him to court, Senator won't even allow him to be judged as supposed. And that must be the beginning of perpetual danger for me. So these people are going free? I said to myself and joined them in the room. We finished up the snacks and drinks then Jimmy left us in the hotel room.

Jessy, we should be smarter. Those politicians can do anything to get whatever they want. We have to leave this town and flee to Enugu or Lagos for asylum. We indeed know what happened and who did the evil, but we can't stand their wicked plans now. Sandra talked to me with a cracked voice. From her voice, I easily understood that tears were very close to her eyes. I had to just agree with her. It'll go a long way to calm her down.

Already I know Aunty Sandra used to travel from time to time but running away from the place where I was born isn't just easy. I should change school, change church, change friends and even I might change as well. Do I know what Enugu may look like or even Lagos? Do I know how Aunty Sandra may treat me? God, It's just like I'm dead. Every command I hear, I have to obey it without hesitation just to save a life. But why is this life so wicked like this? This is hitting hard on me
