Chapter 4

While in the care, I found more peace than in the hotel room. I could see both far and near. I wasn't afraid of anything as we had many armed policemen in the car.

There was such a grave silence until the driver turned the car radio on. The song I heard was 'No woman no crime' by Bob Marley. Does that mean that once there's a woman, there must be a crime? I do enjoy the beats but checking on the lyrics, I felt offended. Is it a course on being a woman? Did my parents die because I'm a woman? Am I here now because I'm a woman? Though I was just thinking and never said anything, I found out I was sweating. Am I the only one hearing the song? Sandra isn't saying anything about that. It seemed like the driver is among the artists that wrote the song. He won't allow the singer to sing along. I had to feign a headache just that he may be told to of the music. Well, Luckily I succeeded. He had no choice but to obey Jimmy who was acting too bossy in the vehicle. The silence was restored in the vehicle.

Baby Jessy, it's well. We'll see the end of this. I know you're getting it too difficult to believe that they're gone, but I'm here and will make myself available whenever you need me.

Sandra said as she held my left hand affectionately.

Was it that she wanted to remind me about my loss? Did she find it like I was playing too much in the car? Or was it that she was just showing concern? I just nodded as I looked at her face. There wasn't any need to cry again since we were told that we'll meet with Police officers who would handle the case and make sure that the perpetrators be brought to book. But would that bring back my parents? I pray I must see the end.

For some moments, there was such silence in the car. No one bothered to talk to the other. The driver turned on the car radio. I just heard the song... No woman no crime🎵🎶. God!!! Is everything taking this route because I'm a woman? Men are ever innocent but among the people that took my parent's life, there wasn't a single woman. Women have suffered.

..... who sang this song? I asked authoritatively.

The driver turned to me and couldn't phantom the expression on my face.

Bob Marley is the artist... He answered reluctantly.

.. Please may you do me a favor and turn it off, I'm having a slight headache...

.... Turn off the radio!! Jimmy gave the other in a friendly manner.

He did as was directed.

I had to feign a headache cos I already had enough to think about and not to think of an album someone else already used to increase his bank account.

.. Here we are. You all should be mindful of your words. We're meeting with legal practitioners. They'll try their best to know your thoughts and not just about what happened. I'll advise Jessy doesn't talk to anyone except I give the other. And while talking to anyone, be guided, please. it's for your good and not just mine. So let's meet them inside the building. Jimmy said while looking at myself and Sandra.

The driver stopped the car as we arrived at the police station. As Sandra heard what Jimmy said, she turned to me. Jessy, remember while narrating to Jimmy about what happened, you told him that you heard your father mention the name Sam before he was shot? as we're here, don't ever narrate that part. I know it's true, you heard such, but don't narrate it here. Your life is my concern.

Do you mean I won't tell them the truth? I asked in curiosity

.. Truth is good but the best is what we want. Don't say such here if you want to be alive. Except you want what killed your Dad to come after you... Jimmy chipped in

Okay, sir. I agreed with them cos they act like they know more than me. They're my elders and that has been Jimmy's profession. We alighted and got into the building

It was just like they were waiting for us to arrive. Almost all the chairs were occupied remaining only that for myself, Jimmy and Sandra. Men and women in the room dressed very nicely. In their police uniform and nice shoes. The aroma of the perfume I perceived in the room just made me like the place. I noticed a man kept glaring at me. At one point, we had to spend like five seconds looking at each other's faces. I was just swimming in a pool of confusion since I didn't know what was all that. His motive wasn't disclosed to me.

We sat closer to each other. Jimmy at the center, Sandra by the left, and I by the right. After exchanging pleasantries, Jimmy continued narrating what happened

... So, this is what happened. What next?

'Miss, Jessy, sorry for the loss. Is there anything you wish to add to what Officer Jimmy said? Like is there another incident you wish to let us know about? did they leave anything in the scene?" The man that was looking at me suspiciously asked.

" Not at all, as he said, that's how it all happened" I replied to him

" Is there anything they told you during the incident? or did you overhear their conversation? that same man asked again

"Officer Sam, she said NO. Everything happened as I said" Jimmy intruded

That name Officer Sam sounded like a school bell to my ears. Is this not the Sam that killed my parents? Then I started checking his stature to confirm my imagination. I was lost in thought for some while

I felt Jimmy touch my hand. I instantly answered. .. "Sir!" Showing that I was absent-minded.

I repeat, Jessy, feel free to disclose everything to us. we're legal practitioners and always here to do our job diligently, Hope you would want us to handle the case as it is now. A man sitting next to Sandra asked

"No need to ask her, we must fight for the justice of Bar Louis. And I promise to take it as a task upon myself to follow it to the root" Sam couldn't even allow me to answer the question but insisted on following up with the case.

We're here for good and not an argument, as your colleague rightly said, we're looking and hoping on you people to help us out... Sandra supported Sam.

In a short while, the meeting was over. Jimmy's driver took us halfway, then we entered another car with Jimmy and then drove to another hotel. Must we continue like this?
