A meeting

Looking out of the open door of the black hawk, I could see the large sandy mountains in the distance, the sun glinting off of its peaks.

Turning to Larry.

"What time is the meet?"

I yelled through my headset microphone.

Grabbing one of his small journals from his chest gear, he flipped through the pages until he came to the one he was looking for, after studying the journal for a moment he looked up at me and said.

"14:30"

I look down at my wristwatch to check the time.

It read "13:00" giving us enough time to get into position.

Our current mission was to do an overwatch on a meeting between the US and rebel forces.

It was going to take place in the middle of a small grouping of mountains with only one road in or out of the mountain group.

America being America always came prepared, with me on overwatch and a pair of A-10 warthogs, flying about 35 kilometers from where the meet was to take place.

We set down a mile from the large hilltop that we will be using for our advantage point.

The black hawk set down with a "thud".

Quickly grabbing our gear, me and Jerry hopped off the black hawk, crouching down, we moved away from the black hawk that was now taking flight again.

After a few moments, the sand began to settle back down.

"I hate that part," Jerry said as he swiped the sand off the goggles he was wearing.

I chuckled at that, "who doesn't hate that part?" I said in response.

Once we got our gear on our backs, we started the hike up the mountain.

At the moment I and Jerry were wearing sand-colored camouflage uniforms with yellowish sand-colored netting that we could use for cover.

Grabbing my scarf I raised it to cover the lower part of my face, using my goggles to pinch part of my scarf and hold it in place.

As we hiked up the mountain in silence I thought about the past year that I had been deployed to the deserts of Afghanistan.

After graduation from the Scout Sniper school, I was deployed with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit to Afghanistan.

Me and Jerry had over 10 missions under our belts as a team, all of them recon-scouting missions or overwatch.

And I had yet to even fire my rifle at an enemy.

Which is a good thing, but not what I was expecting.

From what I heard back in training was the crazy fighting going on overseas, so it came as quite a shock when I found out that most of the fighting was being done by the alliance fighters, and we were just there to support them, with air support.

But I couldn't complain, I enjoyed the role I was currently in.

It didn't take us long before we were in the overwatch location.

From here we can see where the meeting was to take place and all the surrounding areas.

Hilltops and sides, as well as far into the distance.

Setting up our nest we made sure that everything was covered in the camouflage netting and couldn't be seen and molded with the surroundings.

Once done with that, Jerry radioed back to base, letting them know we were in possession.

After getting confirmation we hunkered down and started checking the surroundings for any sign of enemies or people in general that weren't supposed to be there.

Looking through a pair of binoculars to get a wider view I looked at the surrounding areas, where snipers might take up location, not finding anything. I went on to look for any traps or signs that might tell me something was off.

But I didn't go only on my sight, I also went on my feelings or visions.

Ever since I had the vision about 9/11 I always listened to those feelings I got.

I haven't had any visions since then but at times I would get a feeling of uncomfortable awareness, where I would feel nauseous and have butterflies.

But I never understood why, any time I got that feeling nobody was in danger, "that I could see", and I could never figure it out.

By the time I was done checking for hostiles, I could see a large cloud in the distance.

Bringing my binoculars to my eyes I could see a large group of civilian trucks and cars moving in the direction of the meet.

"report to command, tell them the rebels are about to be here," I say, not looking away from the binoculars.

"King castle, King castle, this is reaper one, rebel forces 10 minutes from the meet destination," Jerry said through a walkie-talkie that had a large antenna connected to it.

"copy that reaper one, keep us informed of their actions and movements."

"Copy that,"

I watched the convoy as it drove up the winding hills, two of the trucks had large-caliber machine guns on swivels in the bed of the trucks.

I counted ten vehicles in total, and they were full of rebel fighters.

Pulling into an open area, the vehicles circled up in a defensive line, with the trucks that had the machine guns in the back, and the rest of the cars in front, positioned to give cover for the rebels.

That feeling once again washed over me that something wasn't right.

Deciding to trust the feeling.

"Call in command and tell them that the rebels are putting their vehicles in defensive positions, possibly with hostile intentions," I say to Jerry over my shoulder.

As he did that, I grabbed my binoculars a watched the actions of the rebels.

I could see the rebel fighters pulling out boxes from the trucks and their vehicles.

From my position, I watched as they opened them.

Grenades and mags of ammunition.

Turning to Jerry I say.

"tell command that the rebels are preparing for a fight, they have grenades and boxes of ammo."

Turning back to look, I saw they were now pulling RPG head from one of the trucks.

"King castle this is reaper one, rebels are preparing for a fight, and grenades and boxes of ammunition are visible,"

"And RPG's" I added.

"understood, reaper one, but our intelligence tells us that is standard for this rebel group, apparently their leader is paranoid about ambushes."

I looked over at Jerry, "they're joking right?"

He shrugs his shoulders.

"I could understand the positioning but why pull out the extra supplies."

I said as I looked back at the rebels.

"King Castle, we strongly suggest, to abort the mission," Jerry said through his handheld.

"Reaper one will stay on location, this meeting is going to happen," came in response.

"shit," Jerry said as he set down the handheld.

I guess I will finally get to fire my rifle.

I thought as I waited for the shit to hit the fan.
