"Don't forget your lunch money, honey," said Shawn's mum, Emily, right before slipping some dollar bills into his pocket.
Seeing the opportunity made available, he took a moment to ask, "Yeah, Mum. About my phone?"
"What did you say young man? You want what?" Emily asked before proceeding to stretch her ear.
"Oh, never mind," Her son answered with a smile, knowing her full intent.
"Two weekends it is," he told himself before moving to the dining where he had his breakfast.
After eating, he proceeded to move into the car. His dad, Nick Roland, an entrepreneur who was in charge of a designer's store, drove him and his younger sister Stacy to school.
When he almost got out. His Dad, with black hair and blue eyes,s, decided to comfort him, "Don't be blue about it. You should know how your mum is by now."
"It's alright Dad. I'm cool," He assured with the same smile he had given to Emily.
"Stacy let's go!" He shouted before walking out of the car and opening the back door, where he proceeded to bring out his little sister named Stacy.
"Bye-bye, Daddy," Stacy waved as her older brother led her away. "Have a good day." Shawn waved farewell to the man, who then drove off. "Goodbye kids," Nick waved back as he turned the engine on and drove off.
Stacy was still 4 years old, so he carried her to her class located in the school, which was a short distance from his before he returned to his own.
Now in Class,
The mathematics teacher Mr Roberts walked into the classroom before throwing a greeting to all who were present, "Good morning students"
"Good morning sir!" The students chorused in response.
"Hope you all enjoyed your weekends. Today, we are going to be reviewing a new topic, but before that, I request to see everyone's homework," Robert dropped, indicating to the students how he always got straight to business.
The students opened their bags while some had done that before and simply brought out their homework before placing it right on their tables. The scholarly man wearing a blue suit with a cooperate wear came to inspect their homework.
Of course, some didn't do their own thing and were told to see him in his office after the class. The students all understood what that meant. It meant more homework for them or to the principal's office.
One of them in particular was Richard Dawson, who hated mathematics and could hardly be found doing his homework except by copying from others.
Unlucky for him, he came late and couldn't copy the homework in time. As his homework service provider was not in school which was quite a rare occurrence.
He was someone that Shawn typically avoided dealing with. He didn't want to have someone too lazy to do anything.
Although he was addicted to games. He didn't like to leave his homework uncompleted and have teacher's issues the next day. Soon afterward, the class ended with the alarm bell being rung and the students who didn't complete their homework followed Roberts to his office.
At that moment, everyone stood up from their seats and went to their respective groups, where they chose to discuss the latest trends and went on about celebrities, sports, movies, and so on.
Shawn was talking with his friends at a corner of the class about games.
"Did you see the latest game called Creator Sim?" Charles was the first to comment.
"It was... okay?
"Yeah. What about you Shawn? Have you played it?" asked Harry.
"My mum took my phone away while I was just about to play, so no, I haven't.
"Come on. Your mum took your phone. Isn't that supposed to be during tests and exams because she knows that you wouldn't study" said Stephanie, who happened to be Shawn's best friend and the only girl in the group.
"Yeah, but I'm still trying to be a good boy to get it back,"
"Ish," Steph replied.
"Hey," Shawn immediately pouted as soon as they all started laughing.
All of a sudden, the door to the classroom flung open. All the students who had not done their homework slowly started entering the classroom one by one.
Then the homework customer, Richard Dawson, walked into the class and straight into where Shawn and his friends were.
"You," he said as he pointed his finger towards Shawn.
"You'll be bringing your homework for me to copy, '' He declared.
While Mr Roberts had been inspecting everyone's homework, he looked at Shawn's own and gave a smiling nod before turning away and continuing his inspection.
From Richard's observation, it seems Shawn was a very good mathematician, so he decided to just put the command tone on him.
"Sorry, but I refuse." Shawn outrightly rejected the offer.
"How much do you want?" Richard fired back with a smirk.
"I'm not poor and incapable of handling myself. I don't want your money," Shawn refuted.
"You dare refuse," Rick, one of Richard's minions, fumed at the sight.
"Well, he has the right too. After all, it's his choice," Steph replied.
"Yeah, why does he have to obey Richard just because he was asked to?" Harry chimed.
"Can't a normal human have some peace around here?" said Charles with a deadlock stare.
Their voices were enough to make the entire class know what was going on.
"Richard. What the hell is wrong with you?"
"Yeah, Shawn has always been minding his own business. Why must you trouble him?"
Hearing the words that were stinging him Richard left the classroom but turned to Shawn's direction before smirking.
He was already in a bad mood from Mr Robert's office. The humiliation he had gone through will be remembered. After doing that he left behind a Shawn who knew that his life was about to change.
The rest of the day continued as normal, and soon enough, it was time for the students to go home.
"Hey, Shawn. Wanna go to my house? I just got some cool MMORPG games that I wanted us to play"
"Sorry man. But I've got to take Stacy home and my younger brother"
Shawn had a brother whose name was Lucas. Lucas always took the bus to go to his school where Stacy was and not the car. It was his way of showing his 'independence'. But the agreement the family had made was that he would be coming home with Shawn every day and use the bus every morning.
Shawn left the middle school premises and walked towards the other school before entering Lucas' class. A young boy with short wavy dark hair and blue eyes wearing an ash tie with a white shirt and dark blue trousers. That was the school's uniform and the boy in question was Lucas.
"Lucas," Another boy called. "Your brother is here for you".
Lucas, a 10-year-old boy, ran to the spot where his brother was. "Hey, bro. What's up?"
Shawn looked at this little brother of his. The neat uniform he left home with had been stained. It was obvious that he got into a fight.
"Who beat you up and did you also get into a food fight?" He asked.
Lucas also raised his head, smiled, and answered the question, "It's nothing bro just some kids who asked for a beating and I gave it to them"
"It's obvious that you were the one beaten," He laughed. "Mum's gonna kill you for this"
"Yeah," Lucas rubbed his head before looking at Stacy, who was licking the popsicles that Shawn had bought for her.
"How could I have forgotten our dear cute sister?" He said as he stretched out his hands to pinch her cheeks only to receive a smack from Shawn's.
"Now, now, now. Young Man, we probably don't want some germs to spread from your hands to this little gem. So go wash them"
"Geez. Now you sound like mum" Lucas complained.
"I don't care, just don't touch the princess with such a dirty hand." Shawn rolled his eyes in response, then faced Stacy and stretched out his hand, "Come on, let's go," He said, gesturing to 4Lucas to take his bag.
Then the three of them left. Shawn's friends were also on their way home and accompanied them. So it was typically how things happened anyway.
Today, Lucas, Shawn, and Stacy came out of the school to meet Harry, Charle, and Steph, awaiting them.
"Let's go," Charles suggested.
The six of them proceeded to walk out of the school gates where Harry and Charles walked their way home after saying goodbye.
Stephanie, on the other hand, followed Shawn as they both lived in the same neighborhood.. together. They boarded a cab that drove them off.
After doing that, they dropped from the taxi and walked on. Steph bid them farewell, and the three walked across the street till they reached a duplex with a brown roof, as well as walls painted yellow and white.
Shawn knocked on the door and opened it. Upon entering, he and his siblings removed their shoes as it was a rule made so as not to bring dirt into the house. Shawn's mother, Emily Roland, walked into the living room to see her children. "You guys are back. How was it?" Hope you guys had some fun and learned something today?"
She looked at Stacy and smiled "How is my little cutie doing?
Stacy who rarely talked replied "Fine mama"
"Come here," Emily then drew Stacy into her arms and cuddled.
Lucas had a look at Shawn as if saying "Why didn't you tell her to wash her hands?"
And Shawn's look was "You want to buy me a coffin to bury me in no siree,"
"Lucas, I hope the morning bus wasn't too stressful and waited,"
Lucas was about to reply when she squinted her eyes.
"Is that food stain and dirty wrinkled clothes? Mr Lucas Adam Clement Theodore Ronald you have some explaining to do"
Shawn's face revealed a grin, "Told you so," He broadcasted to his little brother.
