Tools of Slaughter: Story of a Human

In a world filled with war and horror, she was a tool of slaughter. She fought her way emotionlessly through the war for her masters' commands. But it isn't until they die that she realizes how much the people she killed meant to her. ... People say that being immortal would be an incredible dream come true, but they are liars. Immortality is a nightmare. People also say that they would rather have no feelings than to feel hurt. But she would rather feel something than to feel nothing at all; especially when people who care about her die right in front of her, under her own hands. She would do anything to become human. To live, to feel, to die. To be in control of her own fate. Even if it means losing everything. ---- Author's note: - In-depth characters - The pace is a little slow - There are a lot of genres, such as action and military, but they don't have their full potential showcased in the first 2 volumes This is my first novel~ I hope you enjoy it!

A Wonderful Day of School

A beautiful glass building with a touch of antiquity stood proudly, surrounded by grassy lawns filled with stone sculptures. It was a school, and a blooming rose carved in the golden glass was embedded in the building's front.

A boy in a blue school uniform with a golden rose logo at his chest leaped out from behind the school gates. His golden hair shimmered in the sunlight as he skipped towards a particular vehicle parked in front of his school.

It was the only vehicle in the vicinity. In fact, the grounds directly outside of the school was vacant, as if everyone had disappeared.

As the boy neared, one could see his delighted expression.

"Fei! Let's go home!"

Fei leveled her gaze to her master's brightly lit green eyes.

In the morning, those eyes had shown hints of panic and nervousness, but now, they were filled with joy.

The mutant smiled. "How was school?"

Carlos grinned. "It was awesome!"

"But master, why did you come so late? It's already been 20 minutes since school ended."

The boy jumped in the mech to sit in the backseats, next to his bodyguard. He threw his backpack beside him and stretched out his arms.

He arrived a little later to the mech than everyone else due to his meeting with the principal. The principal had kept Carlos's bag in his office since the student didn't have his own locker assigned yet. Carlos had gone to his office both to retrieve his bag and get his schedule, but the principal had kept him there for longer than he anticipated.

The older man had blabbered on about his expectations for the Rochester heir and repeated the rules/ goals that the school had in mind for its students.

Carlos felt a shiver down his spine when he was reminded of those experiences. "… I had a talk with the principal."

"Anyway, Fei, what were you doing while I was in school?"

Fei had gone with him to school, but the bodyguard had disappeared after he went into his classroom. He hadn't spotted her since.

"I was protecting Master," Fei answered as she helped her master put on his seatbelt.

And it was true. The mutant had hidden in a small corner of the school, using her heightened senses to find out about her master's situation at all times.

To her surprise, she was not the only person wandering around the school.

At first, when Fei sensed the breathing and footsteps of foreign adults around the school, she was on high alert. These people must be assassins hired to kill Master! – was what she thought.

But after more close examination, these people looked more like protecting the school than targeting a particular student. And when Fei pondered a bit more, she thought – maybe these people were the bodyguards of the respective students from the school?

This was a realistic speculation since bodyguards were not allowed in the school and can only roam around outside of it.

"Humph. If I find that you are having fun without me, I'll punish you!"

How can you protect me from the outside? Were you hiding outside my classroom window or something? – was what the young heir wanted to ask, but he decided not to probe too much into the matters of his bodyguard.

Cassian (his new friend) said that if you ask too many questions, people might find you annoying and not want to be friends anymore – especially female friends. As a result, Carlos tried to limit his curiosity in front of Fei; he didn't want her to think he was annoying!

"Of course, I will never commit such atrocities." Fei vowed solemnly. She signaled the driver to start the engine. The mech lifted off into the air, but the interior of the engine barely moved, and the young master didn't feel any change whatsoever.

After a second of adjusting, the mutant asked, "What did Master do in school today? You seem to be in a terrific mood."

Her master pondered. "Hehe. Attending this school is better than attending my old one. I made so many new friends today."

"That's good. You really wanted to make new friends, didn't you?"

Carlos blushed and puffed up his cheeks. "Well, yeah, why wouldn't I?"

"Everyone in this school is so nice. In the morning during art class, tons of people complimented me on my drawing. I guess my efforts paid off, didn't they, Fei? During algebra class, someone secretly told me the answer to a question when I didn't know how to solve it but was called on to answer. During lunch, I finished my food earlier, and when people around me saw that I was still hungry, they all offered me their lunch! During recess, Cassian and the others played soccer with me. Cassian gave me all sorts of advice to thrive in society. Hehe. He's really cool and mature. Cassian is the first friend I made, and he introduced me to so many people. Oh yeah, he mentioned wanting to come to the mansion sometime in the future, so I gotta prepare. I'll tell the housekeeper to arrange for a huge party. Oh, but I have to get my grades up before I can do so… Hmmm… Oh well! I'll think of something. But anyway, Cassian also told me about…"

--- 10 minutes later---

"Master, your charm is irresistible, the students in your school must've been spellbound by your beauty, intelligence, and kindness."

Fei found that her master liked hearing such words, and so she wasn't stingy with her praise—after all, these were her true thoughts as well. No one could ever match up to her master.

"Oh, not really! Hehe. They're all just super nice people." Carlos blushed.

"As you say, master." The mutant lowered her head and unfastened the seatbelt of the young master of the Rochester household.

"Master, we have arrived home." – In truth, they arrived five minutes ago, but Fei hadn't wanted to interrupt her master's oration, so she waited until he had finished to inform him.

Carlos nodded. "Yep!"

Today was such a wonderful day. A wonderful first day of school. Much better than he had anticipated, he thought as he jumped off the mech with a smile on his face.
