Tools of Slaughter: Story of a Human

In a world filled with war and horror, she was a tool of slaughter. She fought her way emotionlessly through the war for her masters' commands. But it isn't until they die that she realizes how much the people she killed meant to her. ... People say that being immortal would be an incredible dream come true, but they are liars. Immortality is a nightmare. People also say that they would rather have no feelings than to feel hurt. But she would rather feel something than to feel nothing at all; especially when people who care about her die right in front of her, under her own hands. She would do anything to become human. To live, to feel, to die. To be in control of her own fate. Even if it means losing everything. ---- Author's note: - In-depth characters - The pace is a little slow - There are a lot of genres, such as action and military, but they don't have their full potential showcased in the first 2 volumes This is my first novel~ I hope you enjoy it!

First Day of School

A boy with fluffy blond hair tugged his uniform uneasily, waiting for the teacher to call him in.

"Carlos Rochester, please come in and introduce yourself." An older woman dressed in a suit walked out of the classroom and invited the boy in.

He nodded at the teacher and shuffled in.

Standing before the 30 or so students, Carlos gulped. "H-Hi guys. I'm Carlos Rochester, the new transfer student."

This was the first time in 8 years that he had to introduce himself as a new student. How did he do? He wondered nervously.

Silence prevailed.

"Hmm… Carlos, dear, why don't you tell us a little bit more about yourself?" The teacher suggested kindly.

"Well, I'm thirteen, and I like to play video games in my free time. I'm kind of bad at studying; my worst subjects are math and science. I have two older sisters. One is in university; the other is the boss of a company. My father is General Rochester from the military. I also have a really cool friend that can do all sorts of martial arts. She is called Fei. Together, my family and Fei, we all live together in the Rochester mansion. The mansion is really big, and the food that the chef makes is really good. I really want to make some friends here, so everyone here, please be my friend! Other than that, I also wanted to say that…"

--- 10 minutes later ---

"My, my, Carlos! What an exciting introduction! Please take a seat wherever you would like. There's still five minutes before the bell rings for first period, so take your time to get to know your classmates."

"Yes, teacher!" After talking for so long, the young boy had gotten much calmer. He flashed a sweet smile at the teacher and glanced around the classroom.

Multiple students were giving him secret signals, trying to get him to sit next to them. Among them were both boys and girls.

Confused, Carlos hesitated, before finally asking, "Is there anyone who would like to sit next to me?"

Everyone who had an empty seat next to them immediately shot up their hands. Who wouldn't want to sit next to the heir of the Rochester family?

But before anyone could process the situation, a loud voice boomed. "Carlos, why not sit next to me? Hehe. The seat next to mine is empty!"

It was a handsome young boy with jet black hair and caramel eyes. He shot a glare at everyone who was raising their hands.

Those students silently gulped down in fear and lowered their hands.

Oblivious to what had happened, Carlos spotted the classmate who invited him to sit together and bounced over.

"Hi! What's your name?" He smiled as he sat down in his desk.

"I'm Cassian Hall, heir to the Hall Conglomerate. Nice to meet you." The caramel eyed boy replied coolly, returning a smile and held his hand out for a handshake.

Eh? Carlos stared blankly at the hand before coming to his senses. With a blush, he shook Cassian's hand.

Cassian's eyebrows furrowed for a split second before relaxing. "Hehe. Let's be real good friends! I'm looking forward to hanging out with you for the rest of the five years that we'll be together for!"

He hooked his arm around Carlos.

"Y-Yeah! Same for me, I wanna be good friends with you too," the young master of the Rochester family echoed. He felt a little dazed at the kinship that he didn't know how to appropriately respond.

But he was also a little excited.

The private school that he transferred to included middle school and high school, so when he graduated middle school, he would be automatically placed in the high school.

5 years. That's how long he was going to stay here. It would be better to make some friends early on; that's what the boy thought.

"Stick close to me, 'kay? I'll introduce you to some other cool kids after morning classes."

Besides, Cassian seemed like a cool person to hang around, Carlos thought to himself as he nodded.

Wait. Morning classes?

"Uh, Cassian, I don't think I received my schedule yet…"

Cassian ruffled his hair. "Oh, that. It's fine if you don't have one yet. You should receive it by the end of the day. Besides, everyone in this class has the same schedule, so you can just follow me."

After a second of thought, he continued, "First period is art today. I don't wanna repeat myself, but I'll say it again. Stick close to me, 'kay? So you don't get lost."

Carlos nodded again. "Um… So what do you like to do in your free time?"

The boy with dark hair blinked, and his eyes slightly twitched. But before he could reply, the bell rang.

Ding! Dong! Ding! Dong!

"Well, uh, we gotta go now. Let's talk later. Do you have a locker yet?"

"No…"

"Huh? Wait. What about your stu—never mind. Then just follow me to my locker. It's right down the hall."

Carlos bobbed his head up and down. As he followed behind his new friend, he couldn't help but notice the crowds of people that rushed by him and the noise that followed. Each person seemed to speak louder than the next.

In his old school, this would never happen.

It was against the rules to run in the halls. It was also against the rules to talk loudly.

Well, then again, his old school was much smaller. They had soooo many rules, and everything was so strictly implemented.

He breathed out.

From here onwards, there will be more focus on Carlos' school life.
