Chapter 30: The Emperor
Vis was younger in this body than on Earth.
He was also influenced by many unexplainable factors. At least, he didn't have any explanation so far… Many things pushed him to do unreasonable things, but he knew that thrilling and dangerous experiences were what pushed people the most.
In this way, he slightly explained his stupid idea to sneak into the emperor's chamber.
By going through the royal circle in his common clothes, Vis didn't look suspicious at all and just entered the black castle without any fuss.
He then took off his uniform.
Left in his underwear, Vis put on black clothes that the citizens would wear during the summer, then used the window to appear on the outside.
His finger slipped into the cracks, then Vis began climbing to the emperor's chamber through the window like a thief.
He didn't seem to feel any technique protecting the chamber nor someone's eyes on him. The only hardship was the wind and the windows that were closed, but Vis used brutal force to overcome these.
After kicking the window, Vis appeared in the chamber.
Darkness welcomed him first, then the sound of cutting assaulted his ears. It was a faint sound, but it stood out in this silence.
"Royal Father?" Vis called out quietly, but his words disappeared in this cutting. It seemed like the metal and knife were the only things here, but after taking a few steps forward, Vis fell onto his ass.
His eyes dilated and his body began to tremble.
The middle-aged man was sitting cross-legged on the ground, his right hand holding the knife. This knife kept peeling the thin skin on his arm that kept reproducing with a silver glint.
This skin was silver and the one that the empire boasted!
But The Emperor's eyes were as if in a trance and he looked so lost that Vis just lost strength in his legs.
'Is there someone who uses the emperor?' Vis questioned himself after regaining his composure. His eyes looked at the piles of peeled skin. There were at least four of those around the emperor and it seemed like he had been working non-stop.
There was no mistaking that the emperor was used, but… 'This skin… feels familiar. It's connected to the armor I researched recently… Its energy is much pure… Even ten percent of it is not used in those armors!'
Looking back at the emperor, Vis was sure that this man became a puppet of someone. But he just connected this peeled skin to the Merthic Empire's armor, so it could be only one person, 'The Crown Prince'?
"Vis?" The Emperor awakened while Vis had been inspecting the peeled skin.
He looked at Vis in silence, then called him out to which Vis instantly jumped. The young man glanced at his father while reaching out for his composure.
"So you have become a burglar after your flight?" The Emperor asked, his voice tired and sick.
Vis felt a pity for this man, "No," He answered with a clear voice which was only possible because of the emperor's state, "In a way, everyone is a burglar. If I am correct, our empire won some territories in the Kuyu Empire?"
"That's right. We won," The Emperor replied.
"That's why I said in a way, Royal Father. I don't think the Kuyu Empire invited us here," Vis faintly smiled, but the emperor showed off no reaction.
The man just reevaluated his son again, "You have learned how to talk back instead."
A silence descended onto them…
In this atmosphere, Vis felt like puking as it was rather too tense. He wanted to ask the emperor many questions such as 'Are you a god?' or whether he could become one.
Even if The Emperor wouldn't answer those, Vis still would at least get rid a little of his curiosity.
A part of him also wanted to speak with the emperor, even after what he had done to the fifth prince.
No matter what had happened in the past, the fifth wanted to help the empire for nineteen years until this incident broke his soul.
"How will your talk benefit our empire? Do you want to become a diplomat?" The Emperor broke the silence.
His question made Vis laugh faintly, "I don't have such plans. I am the fifth prince, but I would rather be a free person than a slave to one place."
"Your brothers... All of them had contributed to the empire. Other than Sedis, every one of you is free to roam the world," It felt nice to get a ticket from the emperor.
But Vis soon recorded something that made him smile bitterly, "But all of them contributed to the empire already. Their loyalty has been proved and I know they will protect their home until the last brick shattered."
"If Royal Father means the marriage, then sure, I will do it," Vis answered, but the emperor took this marriage as given.
The father said, "You will fight for the empire. Prove your loyalty."
It looked like Vis got a mission to leave the capital relatively quickly after his return. He looked at the emperor with confused eyes but decided to accept this without fuss.
The fifth prince glanced at the pile of silver skin, then asked, "Can I take this one?"
"You wouldn't be able to use it. I don't want this to fall into someone else's hands," The Emperor replied and refused Vis' requests.
But the fifth pressed, this time a little different, "A little bit and leave it for mother," Celes was learning a lot and this should help her and the royal descendant. Vis also knew she wouldn't share this with anyone if he used good words to order her.
His eyes stood genuine, so the emperor took a handful amount of these, then passed to Vis who took it to his shirt. He folded his shirt and held it with one hand.
"I thought you were used…" Vis added after acquiring what he got. He was ready to leave, but these words would haunt him if he didn't say these now.
He looked at the emperor whose reaction was just a sigh, "I apologize," Vis added, then turned around. He used the doors this time and quickly ran away to his mansion.
Left alone in the chamber, The Emperor whispered, "No Emperor will move in this era… It's all about descendants."
