Chapter 38 - You can fight?

The day had been a good one, fulfilling even, full of the couple's sweet interactions and constant eye contact as Lucas continued his work and Lara read a book still seated on the couch, but the sudden call from Lara's sister, Evelyn, had only brought everything to a complete halt.

As soon as Lara received the cryptic call, her stomach knotted with dread. Her little sister was in danger and she needed to get to her fast.

Lucas, sensing the urgency in her movements, didn't hesitate. Without missing a beat, he closed his computer and took his phone and wallet, and in a matter of minutes, they were out the door.

The secretaries had seen Lara enter Lucas' office earlier but didn't recognize her. Now, their curiosity piqued, they whispered among themselves as they watched the two leave together, that was when they recognized Lara.
