Chapter 1

Far away from Corpus Christi in Key west, Florida, a girl is seen running in the shadows. As she moved, one could hear the heavy boots coming up behind her. She took a turn to the path leading to the harbour like she was born there. One could not make of her features when she was seen passing under the street light except for her blond hair which blazed in the yellow light as if it was burning with a kind flame. The boot revealed themselves to be the MCA who were in pursuit of the girl. She ran down the planks of the harbour which made it obvious of what she had in mind. A short sprint she took and then a diving jump but before she broke the water, a dagger caught her from behind and then she splashed into the ocean with a petrifying scream. "Leo? Would she make it?" One of the guys asked his colleague "normally I'd say yes but given the dagger..." 'Sshh....' Leo was interrupted and with that the form shot into the night.

I woke up with a start, all covered in sweat for it felt so real; every single thing felt quite real. I was about getting up from my bed but I could hardly move my legs for the pain I felt from that dream was excruciating, it was as though I had pulled all my hamstrings together with torn tendons so I laid back and gazed at my clock radio, it was 3:00am about two hours to the time I normally wake up usual morning jog. I laid back for some minutes in thoughts of what had happened. I would have dismissed the dream as a flimsy one but I knew as a fact that the MCA (Misfits Containment Agency) take a hit on someone like that when they are fully sure of what they are doing.

I finally was able to sit down on my bed and then opened my palm electricity mixed with flames crackled gently on it. The light illuminated my face and I closed my palm it was gone. I hope I never end up like her my subconscious said. My parents are the only people who had an idea of what I am but they are still yet to grasp what it is.

When I checked the time again it was about 3:30am so I got my sports gear on and went out of the house. I had certain things to take care of; a new family just moved in at 92nd Avenue and I had to know what was going on... to find out if I was still safe or not. As I walked out of the house the morning air was refreshing and calm; it was going to be a good day I thought but I failed to see the disturbance that could change my life. I left the house with a smile...

Usually, I never ventured out of Fleet Street during my morning jog but this time it was different. I had roughly an hour and thirty minutes before I go back home so I changed course to 92nd Avenue. Though I rare left my Street, I knew this neighborhood quite well and knew that the building I was searching for was not quite far ahead. It was just about five minutes from the central junction join all four Districts. I had a job here not long ago so I knew pretty well what I was in search of; a lofty white and blue building with a mailbox number of #201.

I had started in sprint, slowed down to a jog and now I'm walking. The place was quite dark but the moon wasn't dampened by that fact. I got closer to the house as it came into view. The plan was to jog round the that neighborhood taking surveillance till she shows up for her own morning jog which I had taken a hastily estimate about but as I was two blocks away from the house, I heard a voice behind me "who are you? And what are you doing here?" it asked and I froze, the voice was feminine, I looked at my watch and it was 4:05am already. I swallowed and braced myself as I turned to face the person "seriously is that how you start a conversation?" I asked.

........Ӭ........

How did I survive? I had no idea about. Strange was it not? Nevertheless, I faced another problem; I was lost and confused. It was night right? On the other hand, it might be day too. I knew not but I was certain that this was not Florida and Key West was far away. I was happy but my eggs got spoilt when I was about getting up when I got shot down by the pain I felt then the memories of what happened came rushing back to me but I had to saddle up for it was not a time for emotions. The pain was coming from the dagger that had lodged in my back; it was still there but regardless the pain I needed to keep moving, that was my top priority now, I had to avoid being caught.

I took the stress the pain had on me as I stood on my feet and started walking towards the town for I needed a warm place to push away the biting cold and find a way to remove this dagger so I took forceful steps down the harbor into the town as the my strength gradually slipped away. I stressed myself more after several more walks, my breathing became labored and after a while I fell to the floor but instead of lamenting and trying to stand up, I began crawling. I made more progress this way than walking but still I started slowing down then finally I collapsed on the floor barely conscious.

"Who's out there?" I heard a voice asking, it sound masculine and near which frightened me and I tried to crawl away but my limbs failed me. 'Is this how I still end after everything?' I thought as I laid there helpless and now hopeless. I gave up all thoughts and hope of survival and surrendering my fate to him as I heard his footsteps closing in on me. I then stared up to get a glimpse of his face and send a message to my father for his work was done but when he came into view; my voice failed me as my courage sailed in. I looked at his face and though the light was insufficient, I could make out his spiky hair and honey brown eyes that were full with concern. "What happened to you?" he asked more to himself that me but rather than answering I drifted into an unconscious sleep letting me be at his mercy. "Hey hang in there, don't give up now, snap out of it" I heard him say as he held up my head and tapped my cheeks but there was nothing that could be done so I was consumed by the deep still darkness.
