3 Chapter 2

............. Ħ ..........

Fair, slender, beautiful, kind, and cheerful were the description of Tara Hath but today was a special episode quite different from the normality of her life. It was almost a year since the passing of her father but it still clung to her but she tries her best to be happy and try to cleanse herself from this sorrow and make things worse, her mom heard decided to move away from their old residence to this town. Yes, she loved the view, the sweet smell of the ocean air but the places and people were entirely different, their activities seem bizarre. In summary, it is a nice place but definitely not what she wanted.

Life in Corpus Christi was fair enough. They had moved here about six months ago, she had made some friends but the event that sparked her all the time for some reason was when she encountered a boy in her gym class. She could not place his name though he is her gym partner; she has vivid memory of his dark brown hair, honey brown eyes, and an ever calm yet serious expression. He is nice -in a way- but very mysterious as he is always alone with no friend. People tend to avoid him if they can but seems to no avail. Some girls secretly moon over him, she had that idea too, but she deteriorated it quickly when things blew up on someone.

Today, she lay down on bed staring on her bed deep in thoughts. Just last week, things had changed a lot. He had grown cold all of a sudden and now she had seen him shot in dream. Things are looking bad she thought but her alarm clock distracted her thoughts. She got and dressed up in her jogging attire ready to go out for some fitness exercise that she had planned with Miraculum. As she got ready, she heard some voices through her window; at first, she could not make out what they were talking about or who they were. Slowly she listened and could gradually figure out that it was a boy and a girl who was ranting on about something she could not understand. Normally, she would ignore them but they were brewing an unintentional disturbance so she stormed to the window then threw it open, "What is absolutely wrong with you guys?" she barked.

...ɸ....

Haparia Mequon but her friends do call her, Aria Quon. She was a cheerful, easygoing person with German ancestors but her friends said they called her Quon because she looked a bit Asian; their exact words were that she had a slice of Asian features though the only thing that look a bit Asian were her eyes. She did not complain because she never cared as her life overflowed with laughs nothing else mattered.

Looking back, she saw that life was actually fun back then but right now, all she felt was sadness and guilt. Her parents divorced about two years ago under zero circumstance but she knew the topic had been her even though they had refused to tell her. She had lived with it for two years and was getting over it when another bombshell exploded; they had moved from Nevada to Corpus Christi and that is when her world crumbled.

Corpus Christi was not a bad place to live. It had the smell of the ocean which she liked, the folks there talked funny as much as she did, and the atmosphere was always calm but a bit too calm to her which at first she thought was due to her surrounding then found out it was due to her. Still life was great for her but she missed her father and has no friend here so far which seems to be getting to her. All the people who had approached her were guys; good looking guys who all seemed nice but deep down she knew what they were after so she ignored their offer for friendship. It seemed like they were backed down and came back with full vigour, all but him. Normally she wouldn't care but he was different so she used her siren call on him; it was irresistible to everyone which she saved for quality purposes and it had no effect on him. This bothered her; he bothered her and all her instincts are saying he is bad news, which from her experience is like a cat in the middle of a river but that did not mean the cat can't survive.

She lay in bed thinking of everything as usual which her mother complains that it would give her crow's feet but though her mother knows of her 'gift' doesn't mean she knows of its vantage points like the perks of a siren. So she finally her thoughts deviated to how school would be this week; if things would change, if Ryan Hazier would finally let her be or if Mr. Raymond would stop picking on her. She lay facing her ceiling while these thoughts flowed through her like a live stream and then she heard it. A high pitched sound coming from the junction a sound whose frequency is quite high normal humans wouldn't pick it up even if it stared them in the face. It came as a distress call so she took out her black beanie which she used for sneaking out of the house, wore it with her dark joggers and did what father called incognito then left her room through the window in a black blur towards the source of the sound.

I turned slowly to face the person who had spoken and found out it was a schoolmate just a grade below me. I recognized her to be Nemaha Dale who is in my advance calculus class due to the fact she was a brilliant but as the students called her a brain box. She got this name when she solved a page long calculus in her head during a quiz tournament so the school furthered most of her subjects and gave her a university course called radio astronomy whose classes I also attend.

"Hello Nemaha" I said casually as a step closer to her. Though she was a bit in the shadows, I could see the confusion on her face, the sweaty brows above her once fierce mauve eyes were in a knotted together in awe under her chestnut hair. It was a glorious sight to behold. "H…h…How do you know my name?" she faltered as she spoke, "Is that how you answer your friends..." I asked "…Well, saying friends would be steps too far" I added cheerfully but to her disdain "Friends? I don't know who you are I can't even see you" she said now with a frown on a pretty face. I considered for a while then I entered the light saying "Do you know?" as I walked into the light, though it took a while I heard the grasp all the same. This was more thrilling than the last set up.

"Felin, I thought you reside in Fleet Street? What are you doing here?" she asked the question I had anticipated one would ask a stray but unfortunately my answer was for someone else though I answered "It's for my own reason" and it caught off guard then she caught herself "Okay…" she begun as she walked into the streetlight which showed her wearing a blue track shirt over a black joggers "…you probably know you are unapproachable but you are very much different to what I had in mind" she ended after a pause. I held her gaze for a while the smiled "Your eyes are azure" I began which fazed once again "Don't judge book by its cover. Never prejudice" I replied her statement "So are you trying to tell me that you aren't a loner and a stuck up dickhead too?" she asked losing her long held cool which just made my smile widen "No" I said "I'm as alone as it gets but as a dickhead? I think I'll take my chances as a douche bag anytime" I said with no humor "Oh, sorry I called you that" she apologized which I jerked my head in consent.

We stood in silence for a while then I turn away "I got to go now" I said making a move to leave so as to back up what I had said, I had not taken three steps when she stopped me in my tracks "I heard what you said at first, so does this conversation make us at least acquaintances?" she asked. I stopped short in my track then looked over my shoulders "What do you think?" I asked her hoping she'd get me "Yes" she said and just before it happened I muttered to myself "Really doubt that" then the window on our left burst open and I knew. "What the hell is wrong with you guys?" a feminine voice barked.
