The Base at the Port

Fredrick wanted to stay at the orphanage with the kids for the time being. Some of Jason's men were assigned to watch over Fredrick. Jason then returned to the base with Julia.

"Where did you go? And where's Fred?" Thomas asked.

"You took him to the orphanage, didn't you?" said Yosef.

"I did," said Jason.

"What orphanage?" asked Ashton.

Yosef then told the others about Fredrick and his past.

"Alright, let's not waste anymore of our time. We don't have much time before the global awakening. Each of you has to be powerful enough to protect a few people along with yourselves. So we are starting team training," said Jason.

"You want to make us some kind of heroes?" asked Ashton.

"That's up to you if that's what you want to be. But before the training, except for Ashton and Yosef, the rest of you go to the 12th floor to go through some tests."

Thomas and Damian went to the 12th floor.

"Abbey hasn't woken up yet?" asked Ashton.

"Look who's asking. You were inside the tube longer than anyone till now," said Yosef.

"I was just curious," said Ashton.

"Just like Yosef, Abbey possesses a primary energy element. It might take a lot of time as the aether level in the air is still not enough," said Jason.

"Come to think of it, I don't know why no one asked this, but why did you bring us in all this? I mean, we could have awakened normally after the global awakening," said Ashton.

"You will know the answer to that yourself in a few months," said Jason.

After an hour Thomas and Damian returned.

"Then let's get going," said Jason.

"To the campsite again?", asked Damian.

"No, to the port," said Jason.

"Wasn't that place abandoned after the bombing incident?" asked Thomas.

"Yes, and as it is next to the sea we don't have to worry about your powers running amok and causing any damage."

"You are not coming?" asked Ashton after they got inside the car with Greg.

"I am not an awakener nor do I have the potential to be one. You guys go train your powers. I have other things I need to take care of," said Jason.

"You are clearly joking, right? There's..." Ashton was interrupted as Greg started the car and began to drive.

"What did he mean when he said he isn't an awakener? Hey, uncle Greg, he is definitely lying, isn't he?" asked Ashton.

"One of the things about Jason is that he never lies," said Greg.

"Then... Why would he help others to awaken quicker when he himself isn't an awakener?... And why are you guys so quiet? Aren't you curious as well?" asked Ashton.

"I think he has his reasons for not telling us," said Thomas.

"I also think that," said Damian.

"Then what about you Yosef? Do you also feel the same?" asked Ashton.

"I won't deny that I personally don't like him. He never does anything without a reason. But his judgement has been proven right every time," said Yosef.

"Well, if that's what you say," said Ashton.

After a few hours they reached the port. Greg stopped the car in front of a rundown factory. Suddenly, something began to scan the whole car. The others were freaked out a bit. But Greg assured them that it was nothing. After the scan, the rubble in front of the car moved sideways and opened an underground pathway. Greg then began to drive the car inside the passage.

"Don't tell me there's a secret base here as well?" asked Ashton.

"Just how many bases does he have?" asked Damian after Greg parked the car in front of a big metal door.

"Excluding the home base, there are almost 35 bases of our organization around the world. Five of which are in this town," said Greg.

"Then there are four more bases like this in this town?" asked Thomas.

"Correct," said Greg.

"What are those used for?" asked Ashton.

"3 of them are just research facilities and also provide accommodations for the people who work in the organization. And as for the last one. That's confidential information. I am afraid you have to ask Jason for anything further."

"Let's just focus on what we came here to do," said Yosef.

The base at the port was similar to the home base. But it was just smaller in size. A five stories building underground with residential facilities on the first floor, a research lab on the 2nd floor and a large open field surrounded by forcefields on the 3rd floor. 4th and 5tg floors are used as store rooms for various materials.

"Good to see you again Mr. Greg," said a man in a lab coat when they reached the lab on the 2nd floor.

"How have you been, Mike?" asked Greg.

"As usual. They must be Jason's friend you told me about," said Mike.

"Everyone, this is Mike. If you are ever in need of anything just ask him. He will be watching over your progress here," said Greg.

After their introduction. They went to look at the training hall on the 3rd floor. While Yosef and Thomas wanted to start their trainings right then, Ashton and Damian wanted to take rest for the time being.

"Did you know about this base?" asked Thomas.

"I didn't," Yosef replied.

"And about Jason having no elemental powers, did you know that as well?"

"I actually never cared enough to ask."

"Back at the campsite your shadow curtain broke like glass. If I am not wrong, it wasn't your doing."

"You sure do have high level observation skills."

"What are you guys hiding exactly?"

"You should ask that guy. I am also in the dark as much as you all are."

"Was that a pun?"

"Both."
