Feeling Left out
While at the campsite, Jason received a call from the base. He was informed that Ashton had woken up.
"What's wrong?" Fredrick asked.
"Ashton woke up. I should probably return to the base," said Jason.
"Then I am going too," said Fredrick.
"Why? Want to skip your classes?"
"No, I am also worried about him."
"Alright. It will be better to have more people he knows."
Jason told everyone that he was returning. Suddenly Abbey was enveloped in a white glow. They all knew he was going to awaken. For some reason Fredrick didn't seem very happy.
"He is going to awaken," said Damian.
"That seems to be the case," said Yosef.
But even after a few minutes, the glow didn't disappear rather the white light glowed brighter and brighter. From the situation, they realized that Abbey was going through an overload.
"Yosef, if you may," said Jason.
"So now I am like a container?" Yosef asked while casting his shadow curtain over Abbey.
After the shadow curtain was cast the light got trapped inside. Yosef contained Abbey just like he did with Ashton back at the base.
"What now?" Yosef asked.
"Keep holding him inside," said Jason.
"I also have my limits. Whatever you are going to do, do it fast."
"Alright, keep him steady for a while. Let me get my bag," said Greg.
After a few minutes, Greg returned with a syringe. After injecting Abbey with the syringe through the tiny hole that Yosef allowed on the curtain, his overload stopped.
"Let's all get back to the base for now," said Greg.
They all returned to the base. Abbey was put inside a stasis chamber to monitor his conditions. Meanwhile Ashton was waiting for everyone at Jason's study. When Jason and the others entered the room, Ashton got off his chair.
"What is this place? And why was I inside some kind of glass tube and why was I naked?"Ashton asked.
"They didn't tell you anything?" Jason asked.
"You mean those guys in lab coats? They told me to wait here for you and that you will be returning soon."
"And you believed them?"
"I mean what else would I have done? And you keep asking me questions but you didn't reply to mine."
"This, this is my home," said Jason.
"You are joking, right?"
The others were behind Jason. They went to Ashton and told him everything. Even though no sane person would have believed what Ashton was told but seeing it for himself, Ashton believed everything.
"Then why was I naked inside the stasis chamber?" Ashton asked.
"You burned your clothes and you also destroyed a million dollar cryo chamber, not that we will ask you to compensate for that, we are just informing you," said Jason.
"Ahh... By the way, where are Fred and Thomas then?" Ashton asked to change the topic.
"Thomas is sleeping, he just awakened this morning. And as for Fred... Wasn't he with us?" said Yosef.
"He went to the training hall," said Jason.
"Why didn't he tell us then?" Yosef asked.
"Put yourself in his shoes. Everyone around him awakened but despite being the first one to show signs, he hasn't awakened yet."
"Let me go talk to him," said Damian.
"No need. Leave him be. He needs some quiet time," said Jason
Jason then received a call that Thomas had woken up.
"At right, let's go down and go see Thomas. You come too, Ashton," said Jason.
Then they went to see Thomas. He was at the training hall with Fredrick.
"How about you been, Ashton?" Thomas asked.
"The same or maybe not so much," Ashton replied.
"You will get used to it. We all were shocked at first when we learned about it. Isn't that right, Fred?" asked Thomas.
"I am busy training," replied Fredrick.
"Stop running and take a break. Overworking won't help you awaken faster," said Yosef.
"Don't worry. I am fine," said Fredrick.
"Can I have a word with you for a moment?" Jason asked Fredrick.
"I am training," said Fredrick.
Jason then turned off the power to the treadmill Fredrick was running on.
"Why did you do that?" Fredrick got irritated.
"Come with me outside. Some fresh air will calm your mind," said Jason.
"I don't want to," said Fredrick.
"I wasn't suggesting."
Fredrick then went outside with Jason unwillingly.
"Jason can be pretty scary sometime," said Damian after Jason left with Fredrick.
"That's just how he is," said Yosef.
"Everyone can tell what's going on with you," said Jason when they came outside.
"Why is it taking so much time in my case?" Fredrick asked.
"Like I said, nothing is absolute. Just wait patiently. Here, take this." Jason gave Fredrick a moonstone.
"Isn't this the moonstone uncle Greg mentioned in his lessons? I thought these were rare."
"They are. Yosef and Abbey were given one each before. In your case the dust after crushing the stone was spread inside your house. That's what hastened your progress of awakening. But we still don't know why you haven't awakened yet. Take this stone. You can feel the aether inside of it, can't you?"
"Yes."
"Just don't lose hope. And also if it comes to the point that you don't awaken, then you don't have to worry. You will be equally important like the rest of them."
"That's not very reassuring."
"Take today off. Come with me. I asked Julia to get the car out."
"Well, if you say so."
