Contrary to his timid expression, Tom's black eyes shone brightly with determination the moment he talked about college.
"So, what college do you want to enter?"
"The Royal Medical Academy."
Rafael had heard about that college before. It's the best in the country. Only the cream of the crop could enter it.
The best will be hired to be the royal physician, and the others will still easily achieve success.
With that status alone, investors will come flocking to use their name for their hospitals.
"I see. So you want to become a doctor. What was your school before coming here?"
Rafael and Tom then exchanged more small talk, getting to know each other as they walked toward the school hall.
Even though Tom didn't say it explicitly, it seemed he was already prepared to be bullied in the three years he would stay at high school.
He thought it was worth it. When Rafael asked why he wanted to become a doctor so much, he said it was because of his mother.
"What happened to your mother?"
"It's complicated," Tom replied as he turned his gaze away.
Seeing he didn't want to say anything further, Rafael changed the topic to small talk, like hobbies and movies he watched.
Tom liked to watch anime and play some computer games. It didn't take long for them to reach the hall and take their seats.
Vivian then began her speech. It was the usual boring one. Rather than focusing on this, he spent his time studying the other teachers.
One of the teachers caught his eye as she looked similar to Tom. He glanced a few times, 'It seems she is the reason he could enter this school.'
As for the other teachers, there was one man who made his hair stand on end. The man was handsome, with a sharp jawline, and his golden hair was sleek and cut short.
But this was not what caught Rafael's eyes. His smile was welcoming, but the man's gaze was darting through all the students, like looking at objects.
Vivian then introduced the teachers one by one. The one who looked like Tom was Ms. Jerrica, while the man was Mr. Velkan.
To Rafael's surprise, both of them were set to teach his class, with Mr. Velkan as his homeroom teacher.
'It seems my school life here is doomed not to be peaceful,' Rafael thought with a sigh.
After the speech was complete, Rafael and Tom went to their respective classes.
Unfortunately, both of them were allocated differently. Tom was in class 1-C, while Rafael was in 1-A.
In total, there are three classes at Royal Valtara Academy for the first year.
Rafael didn't catch the details for the other classes, but he knew the A, B, C are separated based on the student grades. And he, being in class A, means he is one of the smartest students.
As the elite class, it doesn't have many students. In total, there are only 16. Meanwhile, B has more than 36, and C class has 56.
Walking through the luxurious hallway, Rafael could spot many CCTV cameras on the ceiling. He also saw two in the classroom.
The classroom is quite modern. There is a whiteboard, a projector, and air conditioning. The desks and chairs are made of expensive wood.
The seating arrangement is separated into four rows, each row having four seats.
Every student also has their own table. Their names were already carved into the desks, meaning he didn't need to fight for a seat.
Rafael's position was in the right corner. Looking around, he saw only two students so far. Both of them were women.
One was busy talking to herself with the phone, clearly live streaming.
The woman had purplish blonde hair and a curvy figure. Her eyebrows were black, clearly showing that her hair was dyed.
'This woman smells like trouble.'
Rafael then looked at the other one. Unfortunately, he couldn't get a good look at her face as she was reading a novel.
'The Mystery of Ars Goetia,' Rafael read the title in his mind.
He then took a seat.
Not long after, another group of students entered the class. This time, there were three men & 2 woman.
Each of them had an attractive appearance, but with their smug looks, Rafael couldn't help but feel a desire to punch them in the face.
He remembered they were among the people who had disdain in their eyes when looking at him. They were some of the school bullies.
One of the men, with a model-like physique, locked his eyes on Rafael. His black hair was sleek, and his lips grinned.
'And here comes the trouble, how should I face them?'
But before the man could reach his table, other students started coming in, followed by Mr. Velkan.
With an annoyed expression, the bully moved back to his chair.
Rafael knew this was still far from over, but there was nothing he could do for now, other than trying to quickly escape after school was over.
It's not that he was afraid; he just didn't want any trouble to reach his sister's ears. And for that, he was prepared to do anything.
"Good morning, as you've heard, I am Mr. Velkan.
In my class, the rule is simple: perform well, and you can do what you want. Do badly, and you will be demoted to B class. Any questions?" Velkan said with a flat tone, his eyes moving like a hawk, scanning each of the students.
His eyes then locked with Rafael's. It lasted a moment longer before he moved to another student.
One of them then raised his hand. It was the one who wanted to make trouble for Rafael.
"First, introduce yourself, then proceed with your question."
"My name is Jeff, Sir Velkan. I'm sure you remember me." He said with a conceited smile.
His father was one of the top contributors to the school. Jeff was sure he could get preferential treatment, and what he planned next was to embarrass the new student.
But unfortunately, Velkan gave him the cold shoulder.
