After chapter 44 the split is about 90/10 female to male. The story arc demanded that the male characters are well fleshed out because most of the rest of the story is about the lead female and her story arc. I hope that helps to answer some questions.
"We're going to get back to that but let me finish my story. I finally got into the shelter and got a scholarship to Stanton School of Nursing. This was before any affiliation, of course. After another two years, I received an outside scholarship and moved from the shelter to the dorms where I finished my Nursing degree. I met Scott and we got married. Here we are a few years later."
