Lanie knocked three times, again. "Good evening! This is—" she stopped when the door opened, revealing a mid 50's woman.
"Room service, Ma'am." She nodded and let them in. Their room was quite messy. There were a lot of bottles of wine on the table. Manuel, the janitor of the hotel, took care of that bottle while Lanie got all the dirty towels and robes. She also changed those.
The woman went to the bathroom to take a shower while, perhaps her husband, was still sleeping in their bed. Lanie went near the bed table to get the wine glasses there. The man on the bed moved slightly and his hand hung at the end of the bed. She froze. Her eyes became wide when she saw what was in the man's hand. She quickly went to Manuel and gave them the wine glasses.
"Are you okay?" Lanie just nodded at him.
"Ma'am, w-we are done cleaning! We will go out now." She shouted at the bathroom door. She heard her say thank you then we went out. Lanie was not in herself when she went back to the lobby. It's already midnight so there's no one there. Only the hoteliers and other staff of the hotel.
That tattoo in his right hand, that spider tattoo. That was what she saw that night at the Gerpacio's mansion. She can't be wrong. He was holding a gun that time when she saw his tattoo.
She calmed herself. Relax, Lady. Calm down. Maybe, it was just a similar tattoo and a different man.
After a few hours, she finished her duty and left immediately. She went to a coffee shop near the hotel. Mark wanted to accompany her but he was tired and sleepy. She stayed here until 3 p.m. She looked at the hotel when she saw the couple go out. Mr. and Mrs. Wang.
She looked at the guest list a few minutes before her duty ended. To check who was the couple in that room.
Mr. and Mrs. Wang, owners of Wang Industries. The top 3 in the most well-known family in the country. Mr. Jeremy Wang. Now, she is sure that he was that guy at the mansion. He was the one who pulled the trigger of his gun on the head of Madam Olivia Gerpacio.
Lanie followed them secretly until evening. She parked her car two blocks away from their home. Their mansion is a little bit small compared to the mansion of the Gerpacios.
She went out and leaned on the hood of her car then looked at their mansion.
"One step at a time..." She said. She stayed one hour watching their mansion and decided to leave. She composed herself and turned her back to open the driver seat.
"Oh my god!" She held her chest in nervousness. Tyler Lancaster was in front of her! Damn!
"What are you doing here?" he questioned.
"Y-you scared me. Nothing, I just look into something." She said and opened the door of her car. Before she entered, she looked at him.
"How about you? Why are you here?"
He shrugged, "Visiting a friend." He said. She lost her attention when she caught someone going out at the mansion. Lanie grabbed Tyler and made him lean at her car. She slightly grabbed the back of his neck when he tried to look where she was looking. If someone saw them, they would be thinking that they were kissing!
"What are you doing?" he murmured. Lanie felt his hot breath on her right cheek.
"Shh. Stay put," she whispered and looked again at the mansion's gate. A boy was standing there and to his left side, his bodyguard. There was a white car parked in front of him then he left. That was the time when she finally breathed calmer. She let go of Tyler's neck. She noticed that he didn't move, that's why she looked at him. To her surprise, their faces were just inches away from each other! She felt like her face looked like a tomato right now.
She quickly stepped away from him. He was just seriously looking at her- observing her moves.
She coughed. "Sorry. I'm going home." She said then immediately went inside and drove fast. She looked in the mirror and saw him still standing there. That's why she doubled her speed until he was out of her sight.
Tyler stayed looking at Lanie's car while it drove fast away from him. When he couldn't see the car, he looked at the mansion again while thinking about why Lanie went to this place. His phone suddenly rang, and when he saw the caller's id, he already knew it. The reason why Lanie went to this place.
"Hello? Yes, tell me all the details." He answered the call. The person on the other line reported what Lanie did the whole day.
When Lanie reached her home, she fell asleep quickly. When she woke up, she was almost late for work! Luckily, it wasn't traffic. Another night went fast because she busied herself again at work. Also, one of the guests noticed her hard work.
After her duty, she researched the Wang family while eating. Except that Wang is in the Top 3 most well-known families in the country, she doesn't know anything about them anymore. That's why she dialed Jeybi's number. One of her trusted people when it comes to getting profiles of famous people. He's a famous reporter. Lanie met him because of Althea. Althea set them up on a blind date. But when she first saw him, she immediately knew.
"Darling, I'm gay. That Althea girl is such a pain in the ass." Jey said to her while rolling his eyes. Since then, their relationship clicked.
"Hello, Darling? What do you want?" Lanie chuckled.
"Background check, Darling."
"Hmm. Who? Spill the tea."
"Mr. and Mrs. Wang." She heard him scream because of excitement.
"Why? Is there something about them? Spill the tea, darling."
"No. There's nothing." She said laughing.
"Sure. Sure. Whatever! Okay, Mr. Jeremy Wang and his wife Yeri Wang. Owner of Wang Industries. Have two sons, Henry and Yael Wang. They are also active in their social life. Wang is a well-known family, you know."
"Hmm. That's it? What about their other whereabouts? Like, 14 years ago?" Lanie asked carefully.
"Woah, darling! Don't tell me you are writing the Wang history?" He joked. She laughed. If Jeybi only knew.
"But, kidding aside." He said, serious now. She put it into the loudspeaker and lay on her sofa. "Some of my sources say that there are other businesses that the Wang family do."
"And what is it?"
"Illegal business." She stopped.
"Like what?"
"Buy and sell different kinds of guns."
Lanie closed her eyes. "Correct me if I'm wrong with this one, darling. Their logo... is it a fencing sword?"
"Omg! Yes! How did you know?" He said, shocked at what she said. It was because she saw it with her two eyes.
"Thank you. I'll contact you again for some tea. By the way, why didn't you write that in your articles?"
"Darling, they are too scary. Plus, I don't have enough evidence. You will see me floating by the river, lifeless if I do that." He said after ending the call.
Before Lanie slept, she got a notebook in her cabinet. She scanned the pages of the notebook that have writings and others had drawings. She stopped turning the pages when she saw what she was looking for. The page where there was a drawing of a hand with a spider tattoo. The notebook contains all her statements about Gerpacio's massacre. All that happened. And all the people that were involved in the crime.
Lanie wrote 'Jeremy Wang. Right hand.' under that drawing. Then, she turned to the next page and saw another drawing. A bat tattoo on the right collar bone, the owner of this tattoo was not a man but a woman. Lanie was hiding behind a big vase when she heard her voice. Commanding one of the masked men to go to the mansion's second floor. She was also wearing a sleeveless black dress that night.
And the last drawing was the whole face of a man with a scar on his left eye. She touched her drawing. He was the only man she saw because he took off his mask. Pain stabbed her chest. She knew him. He was one of the reasons why she was scared and hiding until now.
Because he is Jake's father. He is Ondreaz Jaquinto.
