Chapter 74

"No, you aren't going anywhere" Amber spoke angrily into the phone. She was having a video call with Daniel.

Daniel had told her about the mission tonight and Amber wasn't having any of it. Amber was glad that he could be open about the mission and inform her, but that didn't settle her heart.

The last time Daniel was on a mission, it was life-threatening and it almost cost him his life. At the mere thought of that moment, Amber couldn't bring herself to calm down. It had scared her.

"What do you mean by no, babe?" asked Daniel calmly. He knew of her fears, but the mission was important.

"How can you ask me such a question, Daniel?" Amber rarely called him by his name, so he smelt trouble "You returned from the neighboring city after two days of being away and the only thing I deserve is a video call and news about a mission. Are you kidding me?"

"I am sorry, my love. Please, calm down"

Daniel was guilty of her accusation, so he could only apologize and ask her to calm down. The other people in the room with him were smirking and he turned to glare at them.

"If you are sorry, then come home, babe. Please" came Amber's voice from the other side of the video call.

Daniel was caught between a rock and a hard place. On one hand, was his mate whom he had missed so much for the past two days, and on another, the mission preparation process.

"Go ahead, Beta. It's only 5:00 pm and we still have five more hours to go" Cross urged Daniel to go.

"Thank you, Cross" Amber thanked Cross.

Daniel bid them farewell and made his way out of the room, not forgetting to pull his suitcase stitched behind the door.

When he came out of 02, he wore his shades and got into his car, and drove away from the place. On his way, he made a stop to buy his ever-so-demanding mate her favorite pastries from a cafe along the streets.

As he came out of the cafe, he received a call from Alex "Yes, Alpha. I returned two hours ago."

"No, I was at the 02 some minutes back but Amber was nagging none stop, so I left the boys, I am now on my way home." He spoke as he got into the car

He then switched the call to Bluetooth and used pods for convenience as he drove. "Sorry about that, Alpha. By the way, how is the Luna?"

"Well, I am glad about that. I wish she didn't have to be in an induced coma. At least when she was awake, Amber wasn't this needy. She would even send me away from her"

"Of course. Yeah, we have five hours to go"

Traffic seemed tight being that it was a working day, so Daniel was caught in traffic "I asked Cross about the time too, but he said something about it being the best time for the linking"

"I am impressed with them too. Ok, Alpha. I will give my report to you tomorrow. Bye for now".

Lucky for him, as soon as he was done with the call, the traffic eased out and he was able to make his way home.

By the time Daniel made it to Golden apartments, it was already darkening outside. He parked underground and headed inside.

Inside the apartment, Amber couldn't wait any longer and she was almost calling him again, only for her to hear the door being opened.

Daniel opened the door to an excited Amber with arms wide open for him to go into "Welcome home, love" she said with a big smile on her beautiful face.

Daniel moved into her and held her tight and kissed her hair. "I missed you, my love. How have you been?" Daniel asked while pulling her to look into her face.

"I missed you more, love. I have been lonely" She said pouting her lips cutely

Daniel felt a little guilty when she said that she was lonely because he knew how he had been busy lately and ignored her.

"I am perceiving something delicious. Did you cook?" He said leading her inside the house.

"Yes, love. I made us dinner" Amber was really happy to see him and excitedly held his hands while leading him to the dining where the table had been already laid.

The two had their meal amidst laughter and banter as Daniel told her about his trip to the next city.

They went till around 9:30 when Daniel to convince Amber that the wasn't as scary as the previous one. She only let him leave the house after him promising that he would return with no scratch.

Daniel tucked her in bed, kissed her forehead, and then exited the house after switching off the lights.

He left the building and was picked up by Cross at the entrance.
