Chapter 14

"What is happening?" Alpha Alex asked as he entered the surveillance room. They were at the 02 in the office.

As soon as Alex entered, one of the men vacated a seat for him. As soon as he sat down, a laptop was pushed to him and what he saw made him zoom out; he thought he had seen wrong. Yet, there she was, the person he had been looking for. Finally, he found her, but she was held hostage with a knife around her neck in the most unfortunate situation.

Alex was so scared out of his wits. He stood and kicked the chair he was on and sent it flying across the room. "Who is on-site?" Alex anxiously asked

He was told that it was Cross and one other bodyguard. Using one of the earpieces of the guy that was controlling the computers, he called out to Cross.

"If he as much as grazes her skin, kill him on the spot, but cut off your fingers too" Alex felt helpless; he couldn't go where she was and couldn't do anything. He could only threaten Cross to know the seriousness of the situation.

On the other side, Cross had sweat dripping off his forehead. He wondered how he was going to do it, who the woman was, and why the Alpha was so intent on protecting her. Then, tapping the earpiece on his left ear, he told his colleague of the seriousness of the matter. The hostage was VIP. He ended with the words, "No scratch."

Malia was so scared tears welled up in her eyes, and she felt so aggrieved in her heart. 'I have just started living; how can it last for just a few days and days come knocking on her door. Was her luck so bad that of all these people, she had to be the one to be held hostage? Why wasn't the police showing up?

"Please, I don't have a lot of money. I just came to the market because I can not afford foodstuff from supermarkets. I can really give you the little that I have. I won't report to the police; please let me go." She thought that he was after money.

Malia begged him pitifully; she was terrified of dying, and she felt like it wasn't fair for her because she hadn't attained her happiness yet. When all you've ever known is tears and insults and an opportunity to smile again, you will want to do it better. Malia felt aggrieved because she hadn't even opened the door to her happiness yet.

"If you don't shut it, I will slit your throat."

Malia used her hand to prevent her mouth from producing any sound for fear of being killed. She wondered why no one was calling the police. Maybe even strangers could perceive her lousy luck, and none of them really wanted to render help.

The crowd had formed, but most of them watched from a distance for fear of falling victim to the crazy man. They felt pity for the girl who was helplessly crying in his arms.

From a distance, the sound of a police siren could be heard. The man holding Malia sighed in relief; he was waiting for the police because when the car was packed nearby, he released Malia and surrendered to the police. As he did so, he looked in the direction of Cross and his colleague and smacked. It was like he was mocking them.

Cross was so angry that the police took him before they could do anything. When they affirmed that the lady who was being held hostage was fine. They turned and disappeared into the crowd.

The police handcuffed Calton after a few questions were asked. The police called the ambulance; they wanted to ensure that Malia was fine. Malia, who was still shaken by the situation, was half sitting and half lying on the ground. Se was weeping miserably. She was relieved but still angry at the same time. So was terrible luck written on her forehead, and she didn't know. Why were bad things always following her?

The medics checked and only let her go when they realized she was okay.

"Malia," Amber hugged her so tight. She was so worried when she received a call to come and pick up Malia because of a hostage incident. Checking her from head to toe and turning her around, Amber wanted to ensure that her friend was not hurt.

Looking at how Amber was worried about her, Malia broke down and cried like a baby. Finally, someone was genuinely concerned about her; something new in her life. It felt like a bit of rain had poured into her life after a long drought season.

"Have you hurt anywhere, my love? Hmm? Tell me, okay, I will take you to the hospital." Amber held Malia's face and cleaned the dears using her sleeves.

Not far from the friends were, Alex and Daniel were sitting in the car and watching the exchange. He really wanted to come earlier, but because he was a public figure, he didn't want to create more controversies around him. He trusted Cross to know that he would really have saved her if it was called for.

"What are you thinking about?" Daniel asked. He wondered why Alex was in such a hurry to get here. He met him at the entrance of 02 as he had returned to give a report.

Alex avoided the question, but he was startled because he was lost. He was just glad that the girl was fine. He just felt terrible when he saw her crying.

"Do you know her?" Daniel asked again. Alex seemed to look at the girl in Amber's arms intently.

"I wanted to ask you that, actually." Alex returned the question because he expected Daniel to know her.

Daniel was as confused as him. He had never seen her before. "First time seeing her too. I wonder how Amber knows her." His mate was not a very friend;y person, and he didn't know of any friends of hers. All he knew was that she accepted the mission at the restaurant despite his rejection. So she might actually be a colleague from the restaurant that she worked at.
