The Lone Tamer And the Flightless Dragon

Eons ago, mankind and the elves engaged in a bloody war which lasted generations. While mankind fought with blood and steel, the elves summoned and tamed monsters and beasts called 'chimeras' to turn the tide of battle onto them. Grim Fenris is a descendant of a long-lost elven elite bloodline of chimera tamers. His parents left him in the care of his grandfather, who died shortly after he turned thirteen, leaving Grim to fend off for himself in this hostile world. Two centuries after mankind’s insurmountable victory against the pointy-eared conquerors, the Kingdom of Vanheim had finally known peace. Meanwhile, Grim mysteriously stumbled into a cave where he discovered a flightless baby dragon. Little did he know that this dragon was going to be his partner in crime for the years to come. The peace did not last long as the humans were once more bombarded with constant attacks from an all too familiar batch of foes – the chimeras. One day, it was as though the stars and constellations were aligned for Grim and Dart. Marko knocked on their door early in the morning. "Wake up, you two. Breakfast is ready! Also, there is someone looking for you downstairs."

"Hm? Who could that be?" Grim's eyebrows furrowed. "Maybe its your parents, Grim!" Dart danced around with joy. The mere thought of it excited Grim enough for him to jolt out of bed and walk downstairs.

Who he saw was an old elven lady that he did not know. Dart quickly hid behind him to prevent her from seeing a chimera in the tavern, it would surely cause an uproar.

She had a green scarf covered around her neck, as well as a basket full of fruits and vegetables. "I-I apologize for the intrusion, but the human mercenaries outside just is not believing what I am telling them!"

Her voice gradually went from apologetic to fuming with anger. "Alright, settle down now, ma'am. Have a seat." Marko offered a chair for the elvish woman. "Now, you should tell the why you are here in the first place…" he said.

"Ah, yes. My frail age really has caught up to me." She said with an innocent smile. "I heard there was a chimera hunter residing in this tavern, is that right? Might that be you?" she asked Marko.

The bronze-toned bartender was obviously blushing at the fact that he was seen as someone capable of doing such a task. "As strong as I might look like, I believe those activities are way past my capabilities right now, ma'am. No, I am not a chimera hunter."

"Who is it then?" She asked. Marko pointed straight at Grim Fenris' face. "That kid." The old elf had a look of perplexment and confusion. Before she could utter out a single word, Grim jumped in front of her from the flight of stairs with a grin. "Let us take care of your problem, granny." the elven boy proudly suggested.

"Us?" She asked. "I thought the muscular human was not a chimera hunter?" Grim, Marko, and Dart all turned white. "I-I meant to say 'me' not 'us'!" Grim backed up on his words as he scratched the back of his head.
