Author's POV
Her parents were resting in the dining room when she arrived home. They had been abiding, for her to come back from school so they could eat together. "Good afternoon mom, dad".
"Good afternoon," her mother spoke as she at her husband waiting for him to say something, while Kehna placed her bag on the ground and took her shoes off. "So how was your day?" Her father requested.
And Kehna was a bit taken back,
because such a sentence didn't come from her mom first, anyway, her father quietly waited for an answer "Um... it's a good start, I guess".
"Well that's great, have you made any friends yet?" Her mother asked. "Yes, I think so".
"I'll take that as a yes. I made your favorite dish" after hearing what her mother said a little smile was displayed on her lips as she sat down to eat.
After eating she went to her room and packed her bag pack, for the next day, and brought out her clothes too.
She took a nap after that long day. She woke up still feeling tired.
She saw her mother in the kitchen baking, without saying anything she went to the living room and started watching TV. It was boring but she had to find something to do, after changing several channels there was this TV show where two siblings were bickering.
She knew fighting wasn't good, but she wanted to know how it felt to have a sister or brother who, you would scold for making mistakes.
While she was still deep in thoughts she heard the twisting of the door's knob.
"Kehna since, when have you been watching TV?"
"Hey mom, like since an hour ago"
"Oh okay I was going to come and wake you up, I just remembered, you said you had pains in your body this morning, do you want me to give you a massage?"
"Of course, I don't want to go to school like this tomorrow".
For some girls in her situation, moving to a new place, and leaving everything behind. The first thing most of them would have, was probably the phone number of at least one or two of their classmates, but to be honest, she wasn't complaining at all, she was grateful that one person out of hundreds in that school talked to her.
They ate dinner and she went to bed.
It was morning and she already had to go to school, that day she didn't waste time.
She quickly got on the bus but unfortunately couldn't find Ruby. As much as this troubled her, she thought maybe Ruby was brought to school by that mysterious car that picked her up a day before or she wouldn't come to school at all.
And she was right, she didn't come.
On that day she got to know a few teachers more. But there was this particular teacher she already knew she could have strains with from day one ' Ms. Kelly'. After a few lessons, the bell rang signaling the students, it was time for lunch.
She went into the cafeteria and there were so many people throughout, Kehna decided to sit with a certain group but they didn't seem to like the idea, so she tried to find an empty and quiet place to eat her lunch.
Some of the students from her class walked past her, she just either looked down, smiled, or looked away.
Everyone should be in the cafeteria now, she thought to herself.
So she started eating her food by herself, till a girl walked over to her and she noticed how hesitant she looked.
"Hey"
"Oh! Hey... do you want to take something, out of this locker?" Kehna asked as she started panicking assuming that she had blocked someone's way.
"No, I came here because of you," she said trying to call her down.
'me?' She thought.
"Uhh... I'm Olivia we're in the same class remember?" She didn't remember seeing someone like that, in her class, but she also didn't want to ruin the opportunity of making a new friend.
"Sure Olivia we're in the same class, how could I forget?" She smiled nervously, Kehna had to break the awkwardness "So would you like to join me for lunch? My mom makes the best sandwiches ever".
"Yeah sure". Olivia answered shortly.
They talked about school things and about the other students, she told Kehna how they were, they seemed very friendly the way she described them.
But all of a sudden she remembered Ruby wasn't around, so she thought of the glorious idea to ask Olivia about Ruby's whereabouts. "Do you by any chance know Ruby? She's in our class but I've known her since yesterday so I don't her surname" she stayed quiet and Kehna immediately understood that she might have not liked the question.
Olivia had been curious since Kehna came to that school, what kind of relationship she had with Ruby.
I mean they all knew what happened between Ruby her friend Ashley. That's why many of them preferred to avoid her.
"Kehna, can I ask you something?" Now Kehna's full attention was on her, wanting to know what she had to say.
"Yes, of course, ask me anything"
"What is your relationship with Ruby?". She hesitated because she had hardly known Ruby.
"Um... I think we're friends"
"Oh" she sounded disappointed, Kehna mentally slapped herself. Regretting why she said that.
After a while of silence, they finished eating and she slowly stood wanting to take her leave.
A day ago, she wouldn't have thought much about the students being so weird, there was something about Ruby that kept bringing different thoughts to her mind.
She tried to concentrate in class, but she kept thinking about what happened in the hallway when she asked about Ruby.
Meanwhile, the others completely ignored her. She didn't want to get into conclusion and say, Ruby had something to do with the strange stares or mumbling around her.
She was so deep in thoughts again that she forgot she was in class till... "Ms. Arellalo! Hello?... earth on miss Arellalo" as soon as she heard her name she got out of her deep insights and saw her maths teacher, waving his hands in front of her face trying to get her attention... "Earth on Ms. Arellalo?". He had a questioning look, on his face.
"Sorry sir" she quickly replied.
"Kehna please pay attention you know, you're new here and you've missed, a lot so you have to pick up fast, if you continue like this, you won't come far".
"Okay, sir" at that moment, she felt like all eyes were on her, and it was very uncomfortable but she had to live with the fact that she was just embarrassed, herself in front of the whole class.
