Cross sat in a train cart with Luna and leaned against the window happily as they made their way to Hogwarts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione were in the cart as well and Harry was looking a little worse for wear. Cross ignored them, how Harry felt truly had no effect on him.
He only help Harry out because he was indeed called as a witness. Otherwise, Harry's affairs had nothing to do with him. If Cross was being honest, Harry was involved in so many things at the school and Cross didn't want to jump out and be a hero.
Heroes die very quickly.
Time passed and soon enough, the train arrived at Hogwarts.
Cross got out of the train and walked with Luna to a carriage, sitting down with Luna. They were the only two in the carriage surprisingly. The carriage started moving and came to a stop behind Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville.
Harry turned around and was startled as he said "Huh? What is that, pulling the carriage?" Hermione said "Nothing's pulling the carriage, Harry. It's pulling itself as always..."
Harry was confused and looked at the Thestral.
Cross looked over and said "Hmmm, so you can see them now too? Very curious." Harry said "What is that?" as he boarded the carriage, Luna smiled and said "A Thestral." Hermione was skeptical and Cross said "You don't remember what I told you a few years ago?"
Hermione remembered and said "Why can't we see it then?" Cross stroked the Thestral's neck as he said "You see, only those who have seen death can see them..." he looked at Harry and added "Or by some 'special' circumstances..."
Ron asked "Seen death?" Cross nodded and said "I could kill someone in front of you if you would like to see them." he had a slight smile on his face, but the others felt it was a chilly smile. Luna giggled and said "Don't scare them.. The Grumblyfrumps will get them."
Cross smiled and said "Never mind then.." as the carriage started moving again. Hermione looked at Cross and suddenly said in shock "Y-Y-You haven't!" Cross gave her a mysterious smile and said "Before you even knew what they were..." he chuckled and added happily "I even made my own."
Hermione turned white and Ron said "What's he talking about, Hermione?" Hermione hesitated to answer, while Cross smiled. She finally said "What I THINK Cross has done, is created his own unforgivable curse."
The other's were shocked and Cross answered "Very good! I didn't expect anything less from you. It's true, though what it does is a surprise~" Luna smiled softly and leaned her head on his shoulder as the others felt a chill and Ron directly said "You're mad!"
Cross replied "Would you rather be using a Stupefy spell against a Wizard that wants to kill you?" he looked at Harry and added "Sometimes to live, you have to kill." Harry was silent, but agreed in his heart. After the event with Voldemort, he felt a strange crisis like things were going to get a lot more dangerous from now on.
Cross smiled feeling Harry accepting his words, while Hermione refused to believe it and said "Impossible, how could you kill another person?!" Cross replied "Ah it's quite easy in fact. I assume you're under the impression you must have negative and hateful feelings to use the Unforgivable Curses?"
Cross shook his head before she could answer as he explained "As proven by Harry himself, Love is the strongest form of magic. An 'Avada Kadavra' with the intention to protect your loved ones or friends is many times stronger than the same curse fueled by hatred. Hermione, do you know the history behind these Curses?"
Hermione started "Because the spells are inhumane in nature and leave no room to turn back once casted." Cross shook his head and corrected "No. While the Curses are powerful, not just any Wizard can cast them willy nilly and accidentally kill someone. Unless you are extremely proficient in the use of the Curse, you need a target with some emotion backing you in addition to having a decent understanding of the Curse."
Cross smiled and continued "What's the difference between the Killing Curse and a Severing Charm? If they hit they are both deadly. A Severing Charm doesn't have to be used on clothes, you can bifurcate another human being with it if you are skilled enough in the usage. The problem was that the only Wizards to make the Curses popular were Dark Wizards who had the gran idea that killing all the muggles in the world will be a good idea."
Cross chuckled and continued once more "Truly foolish, obviously they have no idea the Muggles out number Wizards 5 to 1 in population size. Plus even then, the Muggles might not lose even if the entire wizarding world started a war with them..."
He tilted his head, revealing a shocking bit of information, before going back as he said "Anyway, the Ministry banned the Curses in 1717 because of what you just said, but that was the reason given, not the actual reason. To even use the Curses is a hassle with many steps, you have to be absolutely sure you want it to happen for it to happen. The reason was because they are afraid to put such powerful spells into the common populace's hands."
Cross smiled and added "Think about it. If the Curses are so terrible, why can Aurors use it? If the Curses contaminate your soul, why would the Ministry allow their own staff to use them as they see fit?" he shook his head and continued "They are for emergency situations. If you refuse to learn them because they're 'bad spells' then you are a fool."
Cross smiled softly and added "There are no bad spells, only bad casters." Ron said "What about the spells that aren't 'evil'." Cross looked at him and asked "Do you think most spells are harmless?" Ron nodded and Cross pointed at Harry and said "Do you remember when I turned you into a duck?"
Harry nodded, albeit a little reluctantly, he truly didn't like feeling like a duck.
Cross smiled coldly and said "If I didn't turn you back do you think you would come back eventually?" Harry was shocked and Ron said "Y-You mean Harry could have been a duck forever!?" Cross smiled again and said "Every spell, charm, ward, curse, jinx, hex, etc. are more than they seem on the surface, after all where do you think magic comes from?"
Cross laughed and said "Do you think magic was created just to light up your houses and clean your floors?" the rest chuckled a bit and Cross changed his tone to a cold one as he said "It was for war! The ancient magical species were born with magic and created spells to kill other creatures for territory! They had no need for comfort, the only thing was survival. The other miscellaneous spells originated from the battle spells and became what they are today."
Cross took out his wand and said "Lumos." a light glowed on his wand and Cross said "A simple Charm, completely harmless." he poked Ron's cheek with the Lumos charm.
Hermione, Harry, Neville, Ron, and even Luna were listening carefully. Luna was enamored looking at Cross, she didn't know he had a teaching side to him. It really made her like him even more.
Cross smiled and said "Light up your way, the simple Lumos Charm. Even a beginner wizard could manage to cast one. BUT...." Cross licked his lips as he said "What if you make the light brighter condense it into a small ball at the tip of your wand?"
Cross pointed to a tree as the Lumos at the tip of his wand started glowing brighter and brighter, the surroundings getting a like hot as the Lumos light shrank down. Cross said "Now what you have is a deadly spell Lumin Spear. Watch carefully."
Cross pointed his wand at the tree and said "Lumin Spear." the small ball of hot white light let loose and a laser the size of the ball shot forward instantly burning a small hole through the tree and flying off, disappearing into the woods.
Cross smiled and put away his wand, the rest staring at the hole in the tree with their mouths wide open in shock. Cross coughed and got their attention as he explained "You see, just because a spell isn't meant to be harmful, that doesn't mean it cannot be used to kill. The reverse is the same, the Killing Curse can be used to protect as well as harm."
He looked at Hermione and took out a Galleon, he charred one side and handed it to her saying "There are two sides to everything, Hermione. YOU and only you, are the one who judges your own actions. Harry saved a life over the summer, but was prosecuted because of under aged magic."
Cross pointed to Harry and said "Had Harry not made a move, he and that muggle would have died, but using magic is against the law. Was Harry supposed to just let himself die?" Hermione shook her head and Cross nodded as he continued "Then how about we flip the situation. Harry and his future wife are walking down the street. A group of dark Wizards surround them and start throwing Avada Kadavra spells at him and his pregnant wife. This is a dire situation, where ever movement, second, and sound can make a difference. What does he do?"
Hermione was startled and started thinking, Cross cut her thoughts into pieces as he said "Time's up, Harry and his pregnant wife are dead." Hermione complained "I didn't have any time-" before catching her thoughts as Cross smiled and said "Exactly! That's the funny thing about magic. You don't have any time, spells fly fast. In dire situations you only have a second or less to think."
Ron said "Alright then. What would you do?" Cross said immediately "Grab my wife, duck to the ground while throwing a killing curse at one of the dark wizards. While they're stunned conjure a Smokescreen Spell and dash over the dead body with my wife, throwing killing curses behind me as I escaped."
The others were stunned and Cross explained "I can't die and I won't let my wife die. Therefore the enemy will die." the others were silent and Cross smiled before saying "Oh, were at the Castle already." he grabbed Luna's hand and helped her down the cart before saying goodbye to the other 4 and walking away.
Luna looked at Cross and said "You're really perfect." Cross smiled softly and said "You didn't know?" Luna giggled and hugged his arm as she said sweetly "I like your teacher side, it makes me excited~" Cross grinned and kissed her as he said "Would you like private lessons?" Luna blushed and said "If teacher has time~"
Cross kissed her lips deeply as he said "You are just too cute. One of these days..." Luna giggled like a silly little girl, over the moon in happiness being complimented by the one she loves.
Cross made a biting gesture, clicking his teeth together at Luna, who stuck out her small pink tongue cutely before giggling. Cross smiled warmly and walked into the school with Luna, preparing to start his 5th year.
I'll be back.
